I never wanted to synch with the cloud, so I started out synching with CompanionLink, but it duplicated items, wouldn't synch all my calendar data, and the notes &amp; tasks applications just took too many keystrokes to get there.

So last fall I switched to Pocket Mirror for synching and love it - almost like my old IIIXE.

Since the WebOS future is doubtful, I really hope someone comes up with a decent Palm-like smartphone in the future.

<pre>Normally my hindsight is pretty darned good but I still have to just scratch my head looking back and trying to understand Palm Inc's decisions! Hari Kari is all I can figure out! But I still can't explain why an overwhelming leader in an active and massively growing market would shoot itself!

Nor can I explain why today's vastly superior hardware can't do what I'm still doing on my Palm, or at least not do it as well. I love new tech and I've been looking to replace my T3 but I still don't see anything that will satisfactorily replace it!

I do think that most heavy duty users of Palm devices, especially those who also embraced DateBk6, were primarily looking for function. Flash and sizzle is nice but unacceptable unless it works! I suspect that many of today's high tech device users are less demanding of function, at least enough that the manufactures and software writers fell that they need to cater to the "Wow!" factor.

Long live my T3! At least until I find something to replace it and DateBk6!

I still have my Zire71 and Tungsten C but don't use them any more. I've moved to an iPhone with Life Balance. (and I still try out different software like #todo, which I really liked). Life Balance still works for me, but I don't GTD like I used to do. I had a bad experience with digital GTD when my husband was ill. My Palm went down as I didn't have the charger with me (it was back at work) and I still don't really trust digital, although I continue to use it.

It's too bad about Palm. I had hopes for WebOS but they dropped the ball on that too. The Tungsten C is a great machine and it's a shame I don't use it. There was such an outpouring of energy in the early Palm days that I just don't see now. It's a shame.

I prefer to go low-end and have gone back to running a Mac PPC G5 for my work computer. It's fun to be able to use all those free OS 9 programs. I believe we get too caught up in wanting to be one of the cool kids and forget to</pre>

To sync the Fire to Outlook, there is CompanionLink for Outlook for $50, made by the same company that makes DejaOffice.

Have any of you tried these products? What were your results, if you don't mind sharing? I'm thinking of giving them a try.

Dennis,

out of sheer curiosity, I found my two Holuxs, they haven't been used for
several month, if not longer

switched ON, took outdoors (half sky only, not full sky)
also, enabled GPS on my Atrix, held all three together:

my old 1200 got fix after maybe... 30 or 40 secs;
my 1200E got a fix maybe 15/20 sec later
2 minutes later, Atrix sees 6 sattelites, still no fix, and, that's with
benefit of fresh agps data update, versus 6 month, most likely longer last
fix on Holux

which just goes to show my old Palm with the GPS still outperforms
many/some/(at least one?) of new Android phones

(now I need some shrink tubing, I always wonder where my cat wonders too,
might log her)

if I was buying another, 1200 is little more sensitive, BUT, 'E' has
logger, and, significantly better battery life if my recollections are
correct, 1200E is what I would get

I used it last on hiking trip, put inside plastic bag so won't get wet,
worked perfect, apart from 2 or 3 spurious reads inside a narrow 'canyon'

I'll email yo</pre>

both are are very sensitive, and, have quick ttff
I think the older one seems little more sensitive

on one occasion, after I didn't use it for months, it got fix faster than
TT that was used 24 hours ago; and, after battery starts warning, it still
has quite decent power reserve

I was tempted to see if I could use it with Android phone, the chipset is
definitely more sensitive (as in 'how far away from direct sky does it

<pre>I am still using a Treo, from a large stash of refurbished Treos I bought on ebay to tie me over until there is a smart phone out there that can actually replace all that is so good about my Palm.

That's because the most important functions to me are the PIM functions right there with my phone. I have years of memos, to dos, addresses, calendar entries and I keep adding to them... everything I need to know and have at my fingertips my life is stored in the Palm PIM! And I am not going to give that up for as long as I can.

When it comes to mobile it seems we have taken as many steps backwards as we have taken forward: we put up with often atrocious sound quality and dropped calls from cell phones - who'd have accepted that from landlines after the 70s? the 60s? - for the sake of mobility (which is great to have.) And we've lost the crisp and easy Palm user interface and functionality for the sake of hundreds of thousands of apps (none of which are a fraction as useful to me as the old Palm </pre>

<pre>I still keep a charge on my Palm z22, but use it for lookups about once
a month. I have an Android phone, specifically an LG Optimus Slider
(Gingerbread) to use as a tablet (It's a no contract phone from Virgin
Mobile I do not use as a phone).

Both do adequately with calendar, spreadsheets, calculator, and games.
Still, there are deficiencies neither seems to overcome...

Android features I wish Palm had:
 - GPS
 - Camera, summoned by shutter button
 - WiFi connectivity and WiFi Analyzer
 - Good tablet web browser
 - Youtube and other video playback
 - MP3 playlists
 - eBooks and PDF readers
 - GCC: GeoCaching Calculator, GPS and Decoding tools

Palm features I wish Android Apps could cover:
 - Instant-on Application buttons for Address Book, Calendar, Memos
 - Better doodling, ala TealPaint
 - recognized handwriting
 - unrecognized handwriting
