<description>&lt;pre&gt;I just opened preferences and saved; what I have in
/my_home_folder/.psychosynth is: /samples and psynth3d_CEGUI.log which
log file shows no error. Psychosynth never creates the file it is
looking for..
For me it's no big deal, I can use the defaults what I'm missing is
the possibility to save a 'project', a-state-of-things-to-come-back-to
but I'm sure this is on the to do list somewhere :).
This is really a must-go-on project!!

Yes, you can put them in the the ~/.psychosynth/samples folder and you
can also configure the folders in the preferences.

Can you please paste here the exact output of the program at the moment
of crash? What seettings did you change before savings?

Thanks!

That would be a good idea. Meanwhile I installed the nvidia driver
which gives me acceleration and indeed it makes for a totally
different experience.
One question, adding new sound clips is just a matter of dropping them
in the right folder, right?
I noticed they all have something like 14 sec., is that a required
limit or I can use any length?
Also as I already have mentioned, saving preferences crushes the
application, apparently it looks for an xml file, would it help if I
create that file myself?

Ok, no prob, there is no need to hurry. libceguiogre-dev was removed
from Debian Sid some months thus probably also from Ubuntu and that
might be an issue. I am considering that we can maybe distribute it
with Psychosynth itself as it should actually be just a thin layer in
between CEGUI and Ogre, which, AFAIK, are still widely distributed.

to stop due to some dependency issues (don't remember the exact details).

Thanks for the feedback. We will try to fix the issues on the latest
Ubuntu build (Alex can you take a look at that?). I agree on the
dependencies being hard to get right, sometimes almost impossible.
Regrettably the user interface was implemented with Ogre+Cegui having
problems in many distributions. Hopefully some time in the future I will
have time to write a more usable and easier to install UI, but now I am
too busy. As for the user interface thing, the program is in general
running quite fast, but it requires an accelerated graphics card for the
3D stuff which might be your bottleneck -- once again this is something
that would be solved with the UI rewrite.

Cheers!

<description>&lt;pre&gt;Thanks for answering, I finally installed Ubuntu 11.04 and used the
deb files available and that got Psychosynth running. Before that I
tried to compile it and although I had all dependencies installed
configure was still complaining, never mind now.
What you did so far is very nice work and I had a lot of fun with it.
On my not so fast computer the interface was quite slow and it crushed
while saving preferences. I think a lot of people are being put off by
the difficulty of getting the right dependencies for compiling though.
Not being a programmer I can only provide feedback related to user
interaction.

The goal of Psychosynth is not to provide a clone of the Reactable but
to ease the development highly interactive modular synthesizers
providing a good programming framework. The 3D interface is there for
the sake of example and fun. I agree that 3D is of little value, a more
practical 2D interface might be developed in the future if I find time
and will. Remember that this is an experimental project developed for
free, if you can improve the program, just send us the changes or
provide constructive criticism on how it could be made better.
