Hello,
Please follow the steps detailed in the file "INSTALL" found in the zip
file you download from sourceforge. The Windows Installation guide on
mifos.org describes setting up a full build environment on Windows, so
instead you should follow the steps noted in the INSTALL file. You can
view this file by clicking on "Install Mifos" on the download page -
http://www.mifos.org/product/download.

We don't have a package with all applications bundled together. You
must setup and configure java, Tomcat, and MySQL properly for Mifos to
run properly. Confirm you can connect to your localhost's instance of
tomcat and that you can connect to the MySQL database and configured
MySQL as noted in section 2 of the INSTALL document. For your testing,
you do not need to alter the hibernate properties. But for your
information, the hibernate properties are found in the following folder
of the mifos deployment -
<path-to-tomcat>\webapps\mifos\WEB-INF\classes\conf.

official general release version 1.1 and install that so as to be up to
date.

The environment is Debian etch, with separate database and application/web
servers.

I created a new empty database instance with appropriate permissions,
running "create database mifos;" and creating the users on the database
server.

I downloaded the installation package to my home directory on the
application/web server with "wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mifos/mifos_v1.1.0.zip" and unpacked it
with "unzip".

On the application/web server I ran the commands to create the database as
per the INSTALL file:

 mysql -u mifos -h db.etc.gen.nz -p mifos <sql/create_mifos_db.sql
 mysql -u mifos -h db.etc.gen.nz -p mifos <sql/latest-schema.sql
 mysql -u mifos -h db.etc.gen.nz -p mifos <sql/init_mifos_password.sql

entering the password when prompted.

Note: I did not run "latest-data.sql" as I want an empty database at this
stage.

Tomcat is already confi

Jeff,

If the Mifos application runs out of memory, you will get an
out-of-memory exception - you will be able to see it in the Mifos
logs, and your users will also (unfortunately!) probably see it on
their web page.

It's a small installation, and should be ok with 768M. Since you can
change it later, I would say, try it and see. If it doesn't work, you
can bump up the memory.

Jeff,

I'm a developer on Mifos, and also use Ubuntu. I find that 1024M works
well. I think 768M may work - but I am not sure. On this hosting
account - can you change the memory later if you need to do it?

Also, how many users, offices, and clients do you think there will be?
The number of users will affect how much memory is needed.

cheers
adam
