Anyone fancy putting something together for this?

Call For Open Source Software Competition

SuperCollider would fit the remit. Entering the competition involves
writing a 4-page paper describing the software...

No problem! A set of defaults for small hands, and a set of defaults
for big hands :)

If we can get a single *common* standard set of shortcuts this will
make it much easier to teach supercollider, and to discuss it
online...

well, imho, we should come up with a reasonable default, which works
well on most platforms. if the shortcuts are well designed, there is no
need to customize a lot ... of course people will be able to, but it
would be best, if they would not want to change the defaults ;)

that said, i'm not a big fan of using f keys ... on some keyboards they
are hard to reach with small hands ...

cheers, tim

That could be a good solution indeed!
And among those templates could be Emacs and Vim-alikes... But that would
require extension of customizability beyond the actions found in the menus.

See the Shortcuts help file in SC.

I'm assuming that the IDE would be distributed with some set of keyboard shortcut templates. The standard one for Mac could be the one most compatible with Mac users' existing experience.

I agree. Cmd-D was a second choice anyway because apple stole Cmd-?
from us! I don't see much reason to carry it over.

F1 is used for help in a lot of systems, though on mac it's less than
perfect because you have to press [Fn+F1] which is not an easy
one-hand chord.

J> I would say the only strangeness I've noted so far is that the
J> old-help buffer is displayed both in a new frame and in a new
J> buffer-window in the original frame.

I beleive leaving out (switch-to-buffer...) in line 592 in sclang-help
should get rid of the extra (original) display.

In general, I agree.
However, what about the current shortcuts in other IDEs, Emacs, gedit, ...?
What about differences in standards between platforms?

I would suggest to look up to existing cross-platform software.

Nonetheless, it would be useful if someone using SC.app posted a list of
all the shortcuts, with notes added to those that are also a
standard/consensus specific to all Mac OS X software. At least this will
make it possible to compare.

cmd+D is what we currently use in SC.app for help. I'd suggest reducing complications for people going to the new IDE by matching shortcuts wherever possible to existing ones...

That did it - it works!

I would say the only strangeness I've noted so far is that the
old-help buffer is displayed both in a new frame and in a new
buffer-window in the original frame. This is actually fine with me
because it is convenient to read it first in the original frame and
have it hanging around for later reference in the new frame after I
navigate back to my code.

I'll report any additional oddities I encounter, if any (testing on
Linux only).
