And, yes, I've not communicated directly with Julien previously, but I'm

<pre>I don't think Janina would see much of a difference ;)

Janina, you may want to sign onto the Ardour users mailing list at
http://lists.ardour.org/listinfo.cgi/ardour-users-ardour.org

I know that at least in Ardour's earlier incarnations, a lot of thought was
given to a non-visual interface for it. Paul Davis, the primary developer,
would certainly have some ideas on using it that way.

I'm not sure if he's on this list or not, but I know of one Linux
musician on the Linux audio user list at
http://lists.linuxaudio.org/listinfo/linux-audio-user who faces similar
challenges as you. I know he was an Ardour user at one time, but may have
moved to Nama for the majority of his work. Search for Julien Claassen and
you'll find he's a prolific poster there.

Good luck!

Never-the-less, occasionally a neat little tweak comes along that
actually works. It would be useful to gather these tweaks in a single
package that can be cleanly installed, upgraded and removed over the
package management and where the necessary services are automatically
stated on booting the system.

Fernando has already started this with "planetccrma-rt-permissions

I've added a few more and included a corresponding rpm spec file .

I'm just a user and not a programmer and I am sure you know other and
probably better ways of doing this. But on my two systems it works, it
is here and is now. At least Quickscan from Brendan Jones'
"realTimeConfigQuickScan" package gives lots of green ticks.

<pre>Hi Martin

I had a flash drive for test purposes which was already GPT partitioned
with:

1 MiB Ext2 for BootBios
256 MiB Ext4 for /boot
17 GiB Ext4 for /
40 GiB Ext for /home

The installation was straight forward, only needing to reformat each
partition - the only annoyance was that I didn't have a chance to
change the localname.localnetwork to something useful.

The installer detected the BootBios partition and installed Grub2 correctly.

There were no additional options for SSD or flash drives. I manually
added "noatime" and 'discard' to the fstab entries for /, /boot and
/home partitions afterwards.

Also, I created "60-schedulers.rules" and "60-vm.swappiness.conf" as
follows and then run "grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg"

<pre>Hi Sean

To be honest I never made the upgrade to fc18 as fc17 was working very
well and I had a very stable system. However, the workload of
backporting libraries, etc. (with new APIs needed for the latest and
greatest audio apps) has rocketed, therefore I need to make a switch to
a newer system. Fc18 is already reached it's half-life and thus I tried
out fc19. The standard 3.9.x kernel is flaky, but the 3.8.13-201.rt8
kernel built on fc19 is absolutely rock solid, I've been using the
3.8.4-rt2 as well as the 3.8.12.rt6 for the last 3 weeks, without any
problems and jackd has never run so well on my old cheapo laptop.

With best regards, Simon

I can try a rebuild targeting that but I won't have time till after the
28th (concerts coming up in the Bing Studio, speaker rigging and other
stuff starting tomorrow). It is normally not very difficult to rebuild
but takes time. The main snag is usually compiler changes that break
building the packages, on some releases that has been a real pain.

As to Pure Data... it is usually one of the tricky packages :-) I have
been in the process of updating to the latest release (which no longer
includes pidip) so there is a preliminary build if I remember correctly
(&lt; fc19, of course).

I have two projects going - algorithmic composition / synthesis and
computational journalism. The CompJourno stuff is running fine on
Fedora 19, and my laptop will stay at 18 until 19 is in beta and maybe
until it's released.

How much work is it to rebuild Planet CCRMA for 19? The only things I
use heavily that aren't in Fedora itself are the Lisp-based tools
(Common Music, especially) and Pure Data.
