On my recent (and first) ride aboard The Canadian, I was deathly afraid I'd be bored beyond belief. Happily, that was not the case. I brought along my iPad and spent a lot of time reading or editing photos.
Of course, I am open to the possibility of my opinion changing after a few more rides under my belt

If I'm only going on the east board part of the route (Winnipeg-Toronto,Toronto-Winnipeg) than I quite enjoy it. I imagine that's because I'm fresh having just got on and it's a 2 night, 1 day journey. OTOH, the times I've gone all the way through I have found it starting to drag if I started in Vancouver. It can really depend on the people you meet though, some you'll "click" better with and that will provide plenty of entertainment. Other times the scenery or a laptop is the more prominent forum of entertainment. It's also a good opportunity to read a book since you don't have the distraction of the internet around :)

I believe thr original #78 is running from Windsor. The VIA Arrival system shows it leaving Windsor at 1900. I would imagine it is picking up passengers only in Windsor, Chatham, and Glencoe and stopping only to discharge passengers elsewhere along the route.

Each winter I take either #1 or #2 all the way, but this winter I tried something different.  Vancouver-Winnipeg on Friday, overnight in Fort Gary Hotel, the Winnipeg-Van on Monday morning.  Two different consists but only I crew.  They do the same thing as I did.  Loved it.

Hi Everyone.
 
I enjoy both the Westbound and Eastbound trains.
 
I have travelled to Vancouver from Montreal and back 6 times since 1960
and have never been bored during the trips.
 
The scenery is ever-changing and there are always the sidings to 
stop at as the long freights rumble by. The unusual delays show
the dining car staff's ability to produce meals from the leftovers which
everybody can enjoy.

delusion.  Seriously, the newer cars have four irridescent roof cut
markings, while the earlier bilevels have black outlines.  Not to be
outdone, VIA has firefighter-with-saw markings on theirs.  And when more
than one GO train is in motion at once, which they definitely were, it makes
consist-recording much, much easier.

Turns out I saw 1/5 of GO Transit's daily departures, according to BRS
Branchline news article, there are 189/day!

of a problem.  Don't think that GO had railfans in mind when doing this!

assignment.  Consists of trains in and out of Union from same track not
listed twice. GO is railfan-friendly...numbers on top of cars to make

Christian I find the trip between Winnipeg & Washago quite boring. After 
taking #1/2 on several occassions I find that looking at lakes, bush & rocks 
all day long to be quite boring. If I was was to ride #1/2 again I would 
only go between Vancouver & Winnipeg.
