<pre>Hi All,

Free for local pickup, near Plymouth Meeting PA USA, ZIP 19422

3 x Sun 280R servers, complete with CPUs and RAM. No disks.
2 x Sun V240 servers, with CPU and RAM. I think they had 4GB and 8GB RAM.
1 x Brocade 2400 FC switch
1 x Brocade 3800 FC switch
1 x DS4000 IBM/LSI storage controller
3 x EXP500 FC shelves with 36GB FC disks and sleds.

Please let me know if and when you can pick up, or it is all
going out in the trash on the next couple Wednesdays.

I also have available a ProFile external HD and an Apple LISA with water
damage to the motherboard, but maybe good CPU, RAM cards, and other
parts, but I want something for the Lisa--it's not free like the list above.

<pre>Hi,

Looking at qemu, Linux and NetBSD sources I see that there is some
sort of CPU Power Management at least in SparcStation-5. But after
installing Solaris on a SS-5 I see the pmc driver only in sparcv9
directory. Also
# prtconf
[...]
      power-management (driver not attached)
[...]

Does anyone have any machine with working "pmc" driver, or some some
other driver which binds to the "power-management" device?

I just can't believe that Linux (and meanwhile NetBSD too) know Sun
hardware better than Sun's own OS. Am I missing something obvious?

USB camera utility for Solaris 9

<pre>
On a whim, I tried connecting my Olympus D595 camera to my sb1000
yesterday to see what it would do.

The system appeared to create the device node correctly but I couldn't
find an application to access the camera and do stuff with image files.

My 1000 is running sol 9 still so perhaps that's part of the reason.

Anyway if anyone is aware of some software that works in solaris 9 for
managing usb-connected digital camera devices, I'd like to check it out.

Thanks,

Craig.

People on the digest, please update the Subject: when you reply!

Depending on why, you may also have to cut out SunOS, since it's
basically 4BSD with a few additions (eg NFS) and some Sun branding.

That aside, I have a Voyager; if it matters to anyone, I could easily
boot NetBSD 4.x on it and check whether any of my PCMCIA wireless cards
work in it; with a bit more work I could try 5.x. (1.4T definitely
does not support the nell, but I doubt anyone but me cares about that.)

<pre>

Wow! Tough call... you're limited to a Max of Solaris 9 with a 16-bit
PCMCIA adapter. That leaves only Wavelan, Prism, or CISCO Aironet-based
cards, assumeing drivers even exist. Most of that sort of development
didn't happen until OpenSolaris.

I'd say you have two options:
1) NetBSD/OpenBSD, assuming they support the PCMCIA slots in the Voyager.
2) A Wireless Bridge, like a "Gaming Adapter" on the built-in LAN
connection.

<pre>Hi all,

It occurred to me that there are no currently active and up-to-date
linux distros that support sparc32 hardware.
I've put together a gentoo based linux in the form of a live-cd and a
"stage3" system tarball. Those of you that are familiar with gentoo
will know what to do. If not, just follow the gentoo sparc install
guide.

I've tested it on sparcstation 4,5, 10 and 20. The sparcstation 10 and
20 I've tested with SMP. Hypersparc works as well but not with a more
recent kernel than 2.6.31.9. Single CPU microsparc and supersparc work
with recent kernels like 3.1.5

let me know if you want to give it a try, I can provide an install iso
and a system tarball via ftp.

<pre>Hello Jerry,

Unfortunately, I don't have that patch to share with you.

But, I can share that back in the day (pre Solaris 9), and before the
patch you are referencing came out, there were 3rd party /dev/random
devices available for Solaris.

For what its worth, if you are not able to find a copy of that patch, I
might suggest you look here.

Hope this helps.

<pre>Does anyone have this patch they could send me? I am having a devil of a time getting ssh to run on a Solaris 8 Sparc box, and need the /kernel/dev/random patch number 112438-03.
Thanks in advance, -Hirsch

Until you discover something that needs python and then pkgsrc fails. All of the python packages in pkgsrc are broken at least on sparc. They segfault during compile. Anything that depends on python will then fail to install. I've tried a dozen times on my IPX to get python to compile so I could install scons which would allow me to compile a new version of gpsd. Python 2.4 through 2.7 all dead and scons wants at least 2.6.
