    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.freebsd.freesbie/2740</link>
    <description>hi all
I made a FreeSBIE 2.0 iso from freebsd ports, the system is 7.0 and
ports is current.
I use nearly the MINIMAL config with NO_PAM, NO_KLDLOAD and
NO_MODULES commented.
Also, I use my minimal kernel which can boot my box.
Now, the iso can boot with cd9660, geom_label, geom_uzip, geom_md
added manually during loader time.
However, I cannot login, and it shows an error with "login: in
openpam_load_module(): no pam_unix.so found".

I've checked the uzip/usr.uzip and found lots of pam_xxx.so
including pam_unix.so in lib.
Then I build a iso with NO_COMPRESSEDFS but still in vain.

  Do I miss anything ?

    <title>Freesbie on USB stick + qemu</title>
    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.freebsd.freesbie/2738</link>
    <description>Good day all,

Just recently I discovered a new (for me) way of using
Freesbie and I wanted to share it with you. A few
months ago the motherboard on my FreeBSD machine gave
up, and I had no way of running Unix anymore (aside
from my ancient Toshiba that runs OpenBSD). I’ve
always liked Freesbie, but using it as a LiveCD and
rebooting between it and XP is daunting.

Googling for “linux usb” brought me to this site
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ . I tried most of the
Linux distros they have on that site, however for some
reason or another I was not satisfied, either it
didn’t have gcc (damn small) or couldn’t connect to
the internet (ubuntu). Then I remembered Freesbie and
decided to give it a try, running it from a usb stick
using Qemu. I followed the instructions for Ubuntu
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/01/11/run-ubuntu-710-from-windows/
And the only thing that I had to do was to replace the
Ubuntu ISO image with the one of Freesbie. It feels
pretty snappy with Kqemu acceleration driver
installed. I can even store stuff on the stick; after
running the mountdisks script, an ext2fs partition is
mounted and I was able to save files on it and they
were there the next time I started Freesbie. I am able
to connect to the network. The only issue that I have
is when running X (startx), the window is tiny (800 X
600 pixels I believe), but it’s not a big deal.

Hope someone finds it interesting,
Michael

    <description>Hi,

First of all, Happy new year 2008!

Since the import of xorg 7 in FreeBSD ports tree xconfig plugin does
not work because getconfig is gone.
After some research, I found a way to discover the right driver for
VGA card with Xorg -probeonly.

This is just a proof of concept, the patch is available at
http://djdomics.free.fr/FreeBSD/freesbie2/patches/xconfig.sh.diff

Comments are very welcome!

It looks like /usr/share/examples/make.conf has had a major trim in FreeBSD 7 aswell, is triming the base nolonger a option in 7?

Yes, I have had a lot of issues as well.

Specifically building with:

WITHOUT_TOOLCHAIN=YES
WITHOUT_INSTALLLIB=YES

Causes the build to bomb out.

Has anyone else come across problems with doing minimal builds on FreeBSD 7, it seems that the buildworld process bombs out on the beginning or stage 4.1.

freebsie.org has all the info that you need, I'm curios though, why are you on this list if you don't know what freesbie is/does??
Are you a user of the FreeSBIE LiveCD???
