Just a quick reminder about the meeting this coming Tuesday. As usual,
we have two talks:

 1. A programmer from Mapquest will be spending some time talking about
how mapping and routing work, their development platforms (including
Linux), and all sorts of similar goodies.

 2. I will be doing a talk called "Staving Off The Apocalypse with
pfSense" (how to save the world with a router).

See you on Tuesday!

That's a safe assumption. However you'll pay a premium for a machine
that can take the heavy footfalls of running _and_ has a longer deck
since your stride will be much longer.

Good point. I looked at the Harrisburg Craigslist instance and looked
up specific models from there. I already found one that was powerless,
but people said it's very hard to walk on because you have to push hard
to keep the belt moving. I've found at least one so far that people
recommend for walking but not running.

I don't want to preclude running on it, though. Any idea if the ones
made for running would automatically do well for walking?

| And for Pete's sake, be careful.

You mean because it's Craigslist and instead of a treadmill I'll be
forced to by Hummel figurines at knife-point?

I think that'd be an interesting alternative, but the idea behind the
treadmill is something you can do in the background at a low rate and
still get exercise. The bike would probably require more energy,
produce more noise, and interfere more with typing and mousing, but it'd
be great for other times, like when playing video games :)

I plan to implement my own treadmill desk, such as
http://www.treadmill-desk.com/

Has anyone in the CPLUG done this successfully or unsuccessfully? There
are some examples of minimal implementations involving a standard
treadmill and some boards stacked for the desk part, and I suppose that
might work as a starting point.

For those of you who haven't tried this, my query gracefully falls back
to a question about recommended "standing desks" or "stand up desks" and
a question about recommended cheap (but durable) treadmills that do well
at &lt; 10 Mph.

I plan to use the desk exclusively with a laptop, so I really only need
one surface for the laptop and mouse.

Any suggestions?

Probably your best bet for work from home is elance.com.

If you want to get out and about doing the side gig thing, I've had a
lot of success with onforce.com. The trick is to pay close attention
to work orders before you acept them. You can end up with some that
are hours away, or more annoyingly, some that are close by, but the
parts are being delivered an hour away. Most work orders are a flat
fee or have an spend limit. However, if you're selective you can get
some pretty choice work for some pretty big companies. Most of them
only take up 1-2 hours of your time.

I dunno, but I'm interested in that as well. And I haven't seen a darn thing
anywhere that doesn't look bogus once I start looking closer at it. Rebate
processing? Stuffing envelopes?

I sure wouldn't mind a work-at-home deal, or telecommuiting at least some of
the time, though overall I need to aim a bit higher on the income scale, so
if any of you guys know of something that might work I'd sure like to hear
about it.

<description>I have given up my "business;" but find I really miss the "pocket money."
Would anyone have any ideas about a part-time work-at-home computer job?
$100-$200 a month in income would suit me just fine.
