I'm only a recent addition to the GAC, so I don't think I was on it yet
when we spoke on IRC!  Anyway, yes you can add me and my talk (probably
pyconfigure, since it's new) as tentative.  I'd really like to attend so
I'm going to try hard to make it happen.

I'll tentatively say that I'm attending, pending a thorough assessment
of my financial situation :)

That of course means that I can't commit to a talk right now but I might
sign up for a last-minute lightning talk on pyconfigure or GSRC if there
are still any openings.

Hard to say. Initially don't expect me. If I finally can do it, it would
be a last minute decision. I probably will spend August in Spain,
not in Oxford but I have to take care of my 1,39 years old hacker :-)
(or bringing him to his 1st GHM)

Well, I'd have preferred to solve the issue of talks overflowing to
Thursday and Sunday before sending the announcement, but I guess we
won't get all talk proposals right now anyway.  So I'm waiting just a
little longer for last-minute objections, and if there aren't any I'll
make the announcement this evening.

The event has to be announced three months in advance if we are to use
the FSF funds, so we cannot delay this much longer.

Subject: GNU Hackers Meeting 2013 in Paris, France

We are happy to announce the seventh GNU Hackers Meeting, which will
take place from August 22 to August 25 2013 in Paris, France.

The GNU Hackers Meetings are a friendly and informal venue to discuss
technical, social and organizational issues concerning GNU and free
software.

Following the success of the 2011 edition, we will be again generously
hosted by IRILL (http://www.irill.org ), the Center for Research and
Innovation in Free Software.  We have set up an official meeting page
containing practical information at http://www.gnu.org/ghm/2013/paris/ .

As we are still in the process of defining the program, we welcome
your talk proposals.  We are particularly interested in new GNU
programs and recent developments in existing packages, plus any
related topic.  In our experience the audience tends to be technically
competent, so feel free to propose very technical topics as well; we
will try to schedule all such talks together in the same morning or
afternoon session, for the public’s sake.

Registration is free of charge, but in case you want to contribute to
the organization of future meetings, we are glad to accept a small
donation.

The FSF has kindly set up a small fund to help finance (documented)
travel expenses for GNU maintainers and contributors, past and
present.  In case you qualify and you need financial assistance to
attend, please mention this fact in your registration e-mail, along
with all the relevant details including the minimum amount that would

GHM donations?

I remember some controversy over Flattr donations last year, but I've
forgotten the details.  Is there some good political reason to prefer
something else, or cash?

Following Ludovic's suggestion I've marked the dates on the web page as
official: we *will* make the meeting in any case, and there will be at
least the informal pre-meeting on Thursday 22, and at least the GNU
assembly on Sunday 25.

What remains to be decided is whether to have regular talks on Thursday
and Sunday as well.  That depends on how many talk proposals we get, of
course.  I'm trying to attract speakers by writing a post to my personal
blog at http://ageinghacker.net/blog/posts/12/ ; the post will appear
soon on the GNU Planet and the GNU home page, which are very visible.

However, I'd like you to please help me spread the message as well: if
you know some GNU (or other free software) people who might want to give
a talk, please ask them to write talk proposals now (the general subject
suffices for now); we'll have to set the talk dates early, to announce
the meeting and let the participants make travel arrangements.
