Yes, indeed they are. And I, you. And thank you.

I'm right there with you, but that is why I have remained in contact with some of the old group who I grew close to. They still provide those points of light all these years later.

<pre>Howdy all.

Just trying to inject some more life into a place that's not Facebook.

Bink and Rhys - sorry to hear about your respective situations. I wish both families strength in trying times.

For a quick two second update from me - I graduated earlier this year, I move to Cincinnati next week, and start a new career the week after. Things are moving both too slow and too fast at the same time.

Hope your New Year is filled with peace and love,
Heather

bink - sorry to hear about your wife. will be thinking of you.

I pray for Lia a lot. I can't imagine how difficult it is for a parent to see their child suffer. :(

I still am around - still in Romania. have 2 boys. life moves so fast some days and some days it seems to stand still. but I suppose in the end that is just the way life is.

      Rhys,
As much as I sit in the shadows much of the time, I'm still here. My heart always goes out to you with the children, and how bittersweet it all is.
The List provided me much companionship of sorts back in the day. Even though I often feel a bit "Doctorish" like Ysoie, I am grateful for the few I've remained in touch with over the years. I still find it funny how we once lived mere streets apart. Heck, I think I still have a plate that belongs to you somewhere, from the time you watched the parade with us, towing munchies on said plate.
We all face our Darkest Nights of the Year. I am about to head into mine with my wife this time next week, as she goes in for corrective open heart surgery. She's scared shitless. I am surprisingly confident,
though I am certain to be a wreck while she's in the O.R.
I think this place offered us a chance to share our light with each other, despite our own dark days. Everything shines brighter, the more you put tiny lights together.

I am surprisingly confident, though I am certain to be a wreck while she's in the O.R.

I think this place offered us a chance to share our light with each other, despite our own dark days. Everything shines brighter, the more you put tiny lights together.

<pre>you have retained a marvelous and almost magical way of renewing hope in
people. and the climb is always worth it.

dave went midnight climbing with cousins in the City of Rocks. i watched
from camp, reading by moonlight. i listened to their laughter, the clank
of the caribiners, the call of 'on belay' that whispered through the
night. and i watched the stars, pale, but unforgotten, as they climbed
through the moon's brilliance. the granite glowed, their shapes flowed
from one to the next.

it's been a place of magic for us, the City, and i'm going to treasure
those things forever. up here, the moonlight comes through trees, and
they sing. the dark is not all grim, it's studded with light.

<pre>A friend today posted on Facebook the iconic photo of a young woman who leapt to her death from the Empire State Building in 1947. Her name was Evelyn, and she'd written a note to her fiancee that she "wouldn't make a good wife for anybody." He wrote that the photo was proof there were no "good old days." I don't agree. Some problems will always be with us, but so, I think, will human resilience. Perhaps it's just that we've just passed the Solstice, but I do believe we all have the ability to climb up out of the dark.

And because I'm thinking of it:

DOCTOR WHO
"A Christmas Carol”
by Steven Moffat

KAZRAN: (v.o.)
On every world, wherever people are, in the deepest part of the winter, at the exact mid-point, everybody stops and turns and hugs as if to say, "Well done. Well done, everyone, we're halfway out of the dark." Back on Earth, we called this Christmas or the Winter Solstice.

<pre>I'll back you up on the community thing. I work at home, now. Finally quit the day job, and I make corsets and everything else here. My apartment is small, and it gets messy, and all too often, there's no one here but me and the animals and the mess and the mountains of work. I try to have minions as often as I can, and friends, and go out once in a while. But it's impossible not to feel somewhat displaced once in a while. I wouldn't go back, and I love what I do. It's just...sometimes I feel like the Doctor, trailing off his excited chatter into an empty TARDIS.

I spent a few hours trawling the archives last night, tracing the line of where I'd been through years of emails to all of you. Strange how some of it comes back, and some of it I can't or won't remember. Even stranger how little some things have changed.

it does. and it's not always family by blood, which we've been learning.
sometimes it's the hospital nurses, or strangers in a church. sometimes
it's an email list. and sometimes it's a sister-in-law who gives up
going East to be with all the fam for christmas, who comes and loves the
little boy instead, making sure he's confident and secure.

while i've not totally focused on her to the exclusion of zaya, we've
forgotten about living and having fun. we keep almost getting there and
then the dips into the dark come and get deeper each time. we kept
waiting and surviving.

and i want more for zaya. i want to be able to go on a walk with him,
throw snowballs, or just play outside. small things. or even to take lia
on a walk by the lake.

we just can't get past doctors some days. but knowing we're doing
palliative care now changes a lot of things. we're going to shove as
much of our life into this as possible.

i would be too! smaller drives are huge. i'd even pay full price (: (:

You needn't answer if you don't want to, of course, but what's going on with your curly-haired girl? I can see the far darker tone of your entries, and I know that you moved, but beyond that, I'm slightly lost.

<pre>Oh Rhys, it doesn't sound flippant from here. It sounds profound and deep and definitely worth sharing. You have been through so much these past few years. Do you have high speed internet where you are? If so, check out spotify or some other social music site and you can hear their latest stuff.

Community is terribly important. Having a network of friends and/or family to help catch you when you fall makes the difference between hitting the cold hard pavement or the warm arms of love. I've been trying to explain this to my sister in law. She has a 6 month old and recently left full time employment for mommyhood. This is a wonderful thing but without friends, she may go a little crazy by the time her son is 1. I almost did with my firstborn. :)

You have a community here even though we are somewhat dormant. And hopefully you will have a new one soon in your new home. Admittedly, after reading all of your posts, I would probably have focused solely on my second born too, were I in your shoes.

K&amp;L will usually head to Atlanta every 18 months or so and I have been trying to make it there. It's a 5-6 hour drive from here, which is why I am so thrilled to drive 30 minutes instead.

I'm a long time lurker type that pops up every few years to say hi. So, um, Hi!

Rhys - thank you for posting about Lia. I follow your blog closely and pray for you guys often.

Everyone else, I just found out that Karin and Linford are finally visiting my neck of the woods! They are performing at a local singing and songwriting festival in the nearby town of Seaside, Florida and I'm on cloud 9 about this. I'm trying to find some way to get tickets not at full price, either by working the event or trade. I'm so excited, I just had to share.

Happy holidays and new year!
