Η μονοπώληση με έμμεσο τρόπο προϊόντων Microsoft, δεν θεωρείται ηθική ούτε προς τους μαθητές αλλά και στις εκπαιδευτικές αξίες, πόσο μάλλον προς τον ελεύθερο ανταγωνισμό. Ένα άλλο πρόβλημα που προκύπτει με την υφιστάμενη διατύπωση, είναι το επιπλέον κόστος που καλείται ο κάθε μαθητής που χρησιμοποιεί Windows να καλύψει, προκειμένου να λειτουργεί σωστά ο υπολογιστής του. Ενδεικτικά αναφέρω: · ανανεώσεις αδειών χρήσης των Windows επί πληρωμή, · αγοράς πακέτων επεξεργασίας κειμένου, · αγοράς προϊόντων anti-virus, και άλλων λογισμικών που απαιτούνται από το σύστημα αλλά και τις ανάγκες των μαθητών, φτάνοντας να ξοδεύονται τελικά, μεγαλύτερα ποσά από την χορηγία. Αντιθέτως, αν κάποιος μαθητής επιλέξει ένα εναλλακτικό λειτουργικό σύστημα, θα έχει τα παρακάτω πλεονεκτήματα: · δεν θα πληρώνει επιπλέον για την απόκτηση ενός λειτουργικού συστήματος ανοικτού κώδικα, · δεν θα πληρώνει επιπλέον για την απόκτηση άλλων εφαρμογών και λογισμικού, · θα εξοικονομεί χρήματα για αναβάθμιση του hardware για να συμβαδίζει με τις ανάγκες του συστήματος, αφού μια διανομή Linux μπορεί να τρέξει και σε υπολογιστές χαμηλών προδιαγραφών, · δεν θα χρειάζεται η χρήση anti-virus, αφού το επίπεδο ασφάλειας που προσφέρουν εναλλακτικά συστήματα είναι πολύ πιο υψηλό από προϊόντα Microsoft, εξασφαλίζοντας έτσι την ασφαλή αποθήκευση των σχολικών εργασιών τους στον υπολογιστή, αλλά και την προστασία από κακόβουλα λογισμικά, · δεν θα υπόκειται στους όρους, τιμές και υπηρεσίες υποστήριξης μιας ιδιωτικής εταιρίας που μπορεί να τους αλλάξει ανά πάσα στιγμή. Θα παρουσιάσω εν συνεχεία, ένα σύντομο χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα ανάπτυξης και εφαρμογής μιας έκδοσης ελεύθερου λειτουργικού συστήματος Linux, ειδικά διαμορφωμένο για τις διάφορες εκπαιδευτικές βαθμίδες. Η περιφερειακή διοίκηση της Extremadura στη δυτική Ισπανία, εφάρμοσε με επιτυχία στους υπολογιστές των σχολείων, αλλά και άλλων εκπαιδευτικών κέντρων, μια σειρά από λειτουργικά συστήματα ελευθέρου λογισμικού επί ονομασία gnuLinEx. Αυτή η πρωτοβουλία είχε 3 κύριους στόχους: · τη μείωση του ψηφιακού αναλφαβητισμού στην εκπαίδευση, · την κοινωνική και οικονομική βελτίωση διαμέσου της χρήσης του εν λόγω λειτουργικού συστήματος, · την απαλλαγή χρήσης ιδιωτικού λογισμικού για οικονομικούς λόγους. Όσον αφορά την εκπαίδευση, θα αναφέρω τις 3 εκδόσεις που χρησιμοποιούνται: · gnuLinEx-Edu Primaria, που αφορά τη δημοτική εκπαίδευση, το οποίο είναι εφοδιασμένο με ένα πακέτο εφαρμογών κατάλληλο γι' αυτή την ηλικία (δημιουργία κειμένων/επιστολών, μηχανογραφία κλπ), · gnuLinEx-Edu Segundaria, για τη δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση, με εφαρμογές όπως υπολογισμό ποσοστών, κλίση ρημάτων, περιοδικός χημικός πίνακας κλπ. · gnuLinEx-Edu FP, εφοδιασμένο με εφαρμογές όπως: δημιουργία τεχνικού σχεδίου, σχεδιασμός ηλεκτρονικών πλακετών, πακέτο έκδοσης τιμολογίων, πακέτο λογιστικής κλπ. Βεβαίως το παραπάνω παράδειγμα αφορά την πλήρη εφαρμογή αυτών των λειτουργικών συστημάτων στο χώρο της εκπαίδευσης, ωστόσο διαφαίνεται και αποδεικνύεται στην πράξη ότι και εναλλακτικά συστήματα είναι αποτελεσματικά και λειτουργικά. Αναφέρετε ακόμη σε μια επιστολή σας, ότι τα συστήματα Linux είναι πολύ καλά σε περιπτώσεις πεπειραμένων χρηστών. Αυτή η δήλωση θα επιβεβαιωνόταν αν αναφερόμασταν σε συστήματα που υπήρχαν παλαιότερα, όταν τα Linux όντως απαιτούσαν πιο εξειδικευμένες γνώσεις. Υπάρχουν εδώ και αρκετά χρόνια, πολυάριθμες διανομές Linux, για διάφορες χρήσεις, όπως και για την εκπαίδευση. Είναι ειδικά διαμορφωμένα συστήματα για άτομα χωρίς γνώση, ή περιορισμένης γνώσης χρήσης υπολογιστών, στην γλώσσα που επιθυμεί ο χρήστης, με φιλικά και εύκολα περιβάλλοντα χρήσης (π.χ. Edubuntu). Η μεγαλύτερη διαφορά με τα προϊόντα Microsoft είναι στον βαθμό εξατομίκευσης τους σε συγκεκριμένες ηλικιακές, γνωστικές και θεματικές ομάδες. Τα συστήματα Microsoft ουσιαστικά προσφέρουν ένα κοινό σύστημα σε εταιρίες, προχωρημένους χρήστες αλλά και σε μαθητές. Ο βαθμός διαμόρφωσης στις ανάγκες της κάθε ομάδας χρηστών, είναι εξαιρετικά χαμηλός. Ως εκ τούτου, παιδιά μικρής ηλικίας που καλούνται να χρησιμοποιήσουν τα συστήματα αυτά, βρίσκονται αντιμέτωπα με ένα αρκετά εξειδικευμένο σύστημα για την αντίληψη τους, καθυστερώντας σημαντικά την εύκολη κατανόηση τους. Αυτό που ζητούμε ως Τοπική Κοινότητα Χρηστών Ubuntu Linux Κύπρου, αφού ήδη αναφέρεται το σύστημα της Μicrosoft στην τροποποίηση, είναι η προσθήκη συγκεκριμένων επονομασιών, για τα υπόλοιπα λειτουργικά συστήματα που μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν, όπως για παράδειγμα Linux ή MAC OS. Επίσης, αφού το ίδιο το υπουργείο στέλνει Dual Boot συστήματα με Edubuntu, γιατί να μην διατυπώνεται και αυτή η επιλογή στην αγορά των επιχορηγημένων υπολογιστών για οικιακή χρήση; Με λίγα λόγια, να προσφέρεται το δικαίωμα στους μαθητές της ελεύθερης επιλογής του λειτουργικού συστήματος της αρεσκείας τους, χωρίς να μονοπωλούνται έμμεσα συγκεκριμένα συστήματα. Κλείνοντας, ελπίζουμε να ληφθούν υπόψη οι απόψεις μας, αφού εν τέλει οι άμεσα επηρεαζόμενοι είναι οι ίδιοι οι μαθητές.
