--------------------
* Thu May 24 2012 Petr Machata &lt;pmachata&lt; at &gt;redhat.com&gt; - 1.48.0-14
- Don't attempt to install Python 3 portions of boost when given
  --without python3
- glibc newly defines a macro TIME_UTC, which collides with
boost::TIME_UTC. We can't avoid expanding that macro, but the value
happens to be the same as that of boost::TIME_UTC. So drop enum
xtime_clock_types. Update boost to use macro TIME_UTC instead of
the scoped enum value. External clients will have to do the same.
- Resolves: #824810

I'm taking this one. It may come in handy soon (we're talking about
doing a RADIUS auth provider for SSSD).

<pre>

I've changed the fedora package to move it to dt- prefix and we had a
discussion the other day about renaming it in the base (it's not my
tool, but I am involved in the upstream) and I think it'll end up
getting it renamed there as well.

The new package is in the testing repos for F15-18.

Note that Jasper has plans to integrate extension updates into
gnome-shell for 3.6:

https://live.gnome.org/ThreePointFive/Features/ExtensionUpdates

So, the extension you are packaging might become irrelevant in the F18
timeframe. Of course, it might still be useful for F16 and F17.

<pre>Hello,

I'm still begging for reviewers; I tried to contact many people with
Review Requests open that I could review but had no success; so I'm
reverting back to the mailing list.
Anyone with some free time willing to review one of these?

I particularly need the 4 libraries to proceed with other stuff;
they're small and easy:

libguac-client-vnc
libguac-client-rdp
libmd
libradius

Shellinabox
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=820350

Guacamole
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=820543 - libguac-client-vnc
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=820544 - libguac-client-rdp
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=820561 - guacd
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=825250 - guacamole-ext
(libguac, guacamole-common already approved)

Libraries supporting Apache auth Radius module:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823444 - libmd
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823446 - libradius

Many thanks,

<pre>

What exactly you plan to package (and how and with which name) is not
known yet, isn't it? I'm not familiar with the status for "pyrocore" and
other parts of pyroscope.

Pyroscope is not just the patched rtorrent UI. It's a collection of stuff,
e.g. additional scripts.

Btw, earlier you wrote:

| It adds quite a lot of functionality to rtorrent.

Does it matter whether it modifies the source code via patches or in
its own tree? In its present form it's a fork.

Such questions are difficult to answer. Ask yourself: Does rtorrentExtended
(or whatever you plan to package, e.g. extra scripts/tools) offer enough
extra stuff to be packaged as an alternative? Are you interested enough
in rtorrent to comaintain it, since you would depend on it anyway? Is the
project active enough to update their patches whenever an important or
security relevant rtorrent release becomes available? Do you think this
thing is maintainable with its dependency on the rtorrent source?

Good idea. That may answer the question whether rtorrentExtended is
supposed to be a fork or whether it is just a set of proposed experimental
patches that will be applied upstream eventually.

I hope your CPU has AES-NI.
A powerful i7 does AES at 50MiB/s (don't remember exactly, but below 100MiB/s)
without AES-NI and about 900MiB/s with AES-NI.
SSDs speed is usually around 250MiB/s, so AES-NI is required to maintain speed.

Additional hint: I would avoid xts modes, as the speed is halved (450MiB/s)
for not really convincing security reasons.

I'm running AES with NI on a SSD and the CPUs are almost undisturbed by disk
activities.

Cipher name: aes
Cipher mode: cbc-essiv:sha256

<pre>
Hello Michael,

Thanks for the reply.

On fly downloading isn't really what I'm concerned about. I don't intend
to use the build script, only use it as reference while writing the
spec. I'll download the required sources, and they will be included in
the srpm that I come up with.

What worries me is that pyroscope has a "rtorrent-extended" interface,
which is just application of some patches to the original rtorrent
source. It even uses the rtorrent tars, the code isn't forked or
anything. Therefore, we will end up maintaining two copies of rtorrent
in a way (the original and the extended (original + patches)). Should
this be done?

I'm not sure why these patches haven't been added to rtorrent upstream
yet. I'm looking into it.

<pre>

Searching Google for "fedora review request pyroscope" doesn't find
an existing [old] bugzilla ticket. Compare with other package names,
where such a simple search is fruitful.

On-the-fly downloading of source archives and patches won't be acceptable,
since these files must be included in the src.rpm (with the packagers being
in the position to control what will be used/packaged).

It would be necessary to create a modified build script that downloads needed
files in order to create a custom snapshot archive, which then could be
reviewed and included in a Fedora src.rpm.

As long as the behavior is optional and configurable, just send the
patch to rpm-maint and we'll see. Fedora isn't the only consumer of rpm,
and somebody else might find it useful regardless of whether Fedora
wants to enable the thing or not.

To actually get the debuginfo in the builds all I need is a minor patch
to the find-debuginfo.sh script in rpm-build. However, since the effect
of it is global it seems to me that its a wider decision than just the
maintainer of rpm-build.

I agree with Jan. The patch is specifically meant to target a new form
of debuginfo that would (initially) only exist in Fedora. I don't think
it make sense to upstream that before its had some time to bake.

<pre>Hey folks,

I was wondering if anyone's ever considered packaging pyroscope[1] for
Fedora? It adds quite a lot of functionality to rtorrent.

I've just started looking into it, and the building looks pretty messy.
This is the build script they use[2]. It downloads everything, including
rtorrent, and then applies the patches etc. to it. Is this okay? It's
going to take some looking into.

I ask because it appears to be a good tool and there may be a reason
behind why it's still unpackaged.

<pre>Sorry, typo. This was ment to be 'not trying to use "combined binutils"..'

<pre>True, AFAICS.

However, consider that
- binutils is only a comparativly small part of a target's toolchain.
- a target's binutils may require target-specific patching.
- there can be implicit couplings/incompatibilities between a target's
binutils and other components of a cross-toolchain.

You are not necessarily wrong. I agree, using a "combined binutils" is
possibile in many cases (But not always).

It's just that, when taking into account that using a "combo" is close
to impossible for other components of a cross-toolchain (esp. GCC),
trying use "combined binutils" is simplier and "not worth the effort", IMO.
