HAL no debe ser porque ya HAL es obsoleto y no deberia estar en testing.
Todas las distribuciones mas actualizadas e incluyo sid, tienen el xorg sin
hal como dependencia, porque ya no es necesario.

Algunas personas hemos tenido problemas con la actualización de Xorg que
ocurrió en Sid y Testing (Xorg 1.7.6) resulta que al actualizar se pierde
la utilización del mouse y del teclado, mientras que en la consola se
puede hacer de todo al iniciar Xorg dejan no funcionan.

Tengo días de buscar una posible solución (me la jugué buen rato a
consola... hace años no lo hacía), quería una solución posible para
reportar el bug... pero no la encontré.

Entonces encontré un fix a lo macho... Resulta que se deben copiar los
archivos:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ a /etc/X11

Si no tiene dispositivos Wacom, elimine el archivo
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-Wacom.conf

¡¡¡Inicie Xorg y disfrute de nuevo del poder de Debian GNU/Linux!!!

La explicación empírica (no científica) es que al parecer Xorg se guía por
todo lo que HAL le comunique, al parecer no está comunicando bien los
dispositivos, además se cambió el driver de keyboard y mouse a evdev.
Dentro de xorg.conf.d están los archivos de configuración para drivers
synaptics y para evdev.

Creo que por ahí andaba el problema, la cosa es que me funcionó en mis dos
laptops. Ojalá sirva de ayuda a alguien mas.

Estimadas comunidades,

Antes que nada, por favor denle difusión a este correo, el objetivo de
este correo es iniciar el proceso de inscripción al Encuentro Nacional
de Comunidades de Software Libre de país. Tenemos un cupo limitado por
lo que habrá un pequeño proceso de selección basado en la encuesta que
deben llenar. Inviten a solicitar inscripción a los miembros de otras
comunidades que conozcan, envienlo a las demás comunidades (estén o no
articuladas dentro de la RCSL).

La Red Costarricense de Software Libre tiene el agrado de invitarlos a
participar activamente en el Primer Encuentro Nacional de Comunidades
de Software Libre.

El objetivo de este encuentro es trabajar en la definición y
articulación de una serie de procesos con el fin de promover la
participación y el trabajo colaborativo entre las comunidades.

También se realizarán actividades de crecimiento organizacional a
través de mesas de trabajo, con las cuales esperamos desarrollar
capacidades para realizar de una mejor forma los diferentes proyectos
que se nos presentan.

La convocatoria apunta a personas que ocupen puestos de liderazgo en
sus respectivas
comunidades o que estén interesadas en asumir roles de coordinación.

Este llamado es inclusivo, por lo cual estamos considerando a personas
que se hayan unido a las comunidades recientemente, como también a
quienes posean experiencia previa e importantes conocimientos en
Software Libre, organización de eventos de Software Libre y que deseen
colaborar.

El evento se llevará a cabo durante el el sábado 8 y domingo 9 de
octubre, en el Hotel Cibeles en Heredia. Los gastos de estadía y
alimentación serán cubiertos por parte del proyecto de la

No se a que te refieres con globales, el ejemplo que puse es para las
teclas específicas de la HP Mini 110, Sleep, Mute, VolDown/Up.

Con xev puede determinar las teclas que desee (o sea los hotkeys de su
computadora) y agregarlas a la definición que usted puede crear en
/usr/share/hotkeys/

Luego en /etc/hotkeys.conf especifica cual es el archivo de definiciones.

Estos son los temillas que los traviesos de Debian sabemos podemos
utilizar, pero nunca tenemos tiempo para buscar, implementar y disfrutar.
Por alguna razón los debianitas no tenemos tiempo para "culioladitas" de
este tipo.

Bueno pues la gente de esdebian ya lo investigó y yo le agregué ciertas
explicaciones y lo documenté acá, como configurar las famosas hotkeys

 Mi nombre es Angel Salamanca voy a visitar CR por unos días, quisiera saber si tendrán algún tipo de evento o proporcionarme una pagina (recomendada) donde vea algún evento, de paso si alguien se anima ir algún bar por un trago le hago BARRA, bar con Wi-Fi, también de paso iré al teatro nacional de costa rica, alguna opinión del teatro?, me quedare en un hostal el cual aun lo sigo buscando :/ alguna recomendación, me agradan las reuniones con gente con la misma afinidad por tal escribí a la lista debian-CR.

 En primer lugar me disculpo de ante mano por usar este medio para una pregunta de hardware pero creo que talves puedan ayudarme.
En mis manos ha caido un pc antiguo realmente un pentium 2 con procesador en socket 1 de intel, en general en aquel tiempo se que habian su raresas este es uno de esos modelos todo integrados y que usaban unas fajas hacia los puertos, esto no es nada extraño lo que es extraño es que me he encontrado un puerto que no se para que funciona es similar a un PS2 para teclado y mousse pero con la diferencia de que sus pines estan completamente en otra posicion y ademas posee mas pines, lo que me da la idea de que no es para esta funcion, en su lado superior dice IR, ademas de lo que les digo, veo que ni linux ni windows lo detectan asi que desconosco que es en realidad, por cierto el equipo es tan viejo que aun usa conector antiguo de teclado de estos que eran grandes, por dicha por alli tenia un adaptador, asi que es reviejo queria reutilizarlo para algo o como caja de experimentos locos pero me surgio la duda sobre el puerto se agradece cualquier ayuda.

The Debian project's representatives were quite busy at this year's
Linux New Media Awards, which were presented yesterday during CeBIT in
Hanover, Germany. They first took the stage when the award for "Best
Open Source Server Distribution" was presented by Peter Ganten, Managing
Director of Univention GmbH. In presenting the award he emphasized that
Debian has done pioneering work not only in the technical field but also
in the definition of free software standards and processes.

The Debian representatives were called to the stage a second time when
the most important award, "Outstanding Contribution to Open Source/
Linux/Free Software", was presented by Karsten Gerloff, president of the
Free Software Foundation Europe. He took the stage to present the award
and first put on a Debian Tartan tie before praising Debian with a very
moving speech.

He particularly emphasized Debian's dedication to software freedom
saying:

"In Debian, quality is the focus of everyone's attention. But those who
work on the Debian system know that great software is worth nothing
without Freedom.

With the release of Squeeze, the latest stable version, in February,
Debian has taken the important step of offering a completely free
kernel, with no binary blobs. This is a first for a major distribution
in recent times. Debian is giving its users Freedom by default.

And this Freedom for users and developers on a massive scale truly is
Debian's outstanding contribution, not just to Free Software, but to the
information society."

The awards were accepted by Debian Press Officers Meike Reichle and
Alexander Reichle-Schmehl, who used their acceptance speeches to thank
Linux New Media, the jury and in particular the developers and
contributors of the Debian project whose ongoing work and dedication
continues to inspire.

The ceremony was also streamed live over the Internet, and a video
recording will be available soon.

Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" released

After 24 months of constant development, the Debian Project is proud to
present its new stable version 6.0 (code name "Squeeze"). Debian 6.0 is
a free operating system, coming for the first time in two flavours.
Alongside Debian GNU/Linux, Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is introduced with this
version as a "technology preview".

Debian 6.0 includes the KDE Plasma Desktop and Applications, the GNOME,
Xfce, and LXDE desktop environments as well as all kinds of server
applications.  It also features compatibility with the FHS v2.3 and
software developed for version 3.2 of the LSB.

Debian runs on computers ranging from palmtops and handheld systems to
supercomputers, and on nearly everything in between.  A total of nine
architectures are supported by Debian GNU/Linux: 32-bit PC / Intel
IA-32 (i386), 64-bit PC / Intel EM64T / x86-64 (amd64), Motorola/IBM

Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" introduces technical previews of two new ports to
the kernel of the FreeBSD project using the known Debian/GNU userland:
Debian GNU/kFreeBSD for the 32-bit PC (kfreebsd-i386) and the 64-bit PC
(kfreebsd-amd64). These ports are the first ones ever to be included in
a Debian release which are not based on the Linux kernel. The support
of common server software is strong and combines the existing features
of Linux-based Debian versions with the unique features known from the
BSD world. However, for this release these new ports are limited; for
example, some advanced desktop features are not yet supported.

Another first is the completely free Linux kernel, which no longer
contains problematic firmware files. These were split out into separate
packages and moved out of the Debian main archive into the non-free
area of our archive, which is not enabled by default. In this way
Debian users have the possibility of running a completely free
operating system, but may still choose to use non-free firmware files
if necessary. Firmware files needed during installation may be loaded
by the installation system; special CD images and tarballs for USB

Furthermore, Debian 6.0 introduces a dependency based boot system,
making system start-up faster and more robust due to parallel execution
of boot scripts and correct dependency tracking between them. Various

Debian 6.0 includes over 10,000 new packages like the browser Chromium,
the monitoring solution Icinga, the package management frontend
Software Center, the network manager wicd, the Linux container tools
lxc and the cluster framework Corosync.

With this broad selection of packages, Debian once again stays true to
its goal of being the universal operating system. It is suitable for
many different use cases: from desktop systems to netbooks; from
development servers to cluster systems; and for database, web or
storage servers. At the same time, additional quality assurance efforts
like automatic installation and upgrade tests for all packages in
Debian's archive ensure that Debian 6.0 fulfils the high expectations
that users have of a stable Debian release. It is rock solid and
rigorously tested.

Starting from Debian 6.0, the "Custom Debian Distributions" are renamed
to "Debian Pure Blends" [2]. Their coverage has increased as Debian 6.0
adds >Debian Accessibility [3], DebiChem [4], Debian EzGo [5], Debian
GIS [6] and Debian Multimedia [7] to the already existing Debian Edu
[8], Debian Med [9] and Debian Science [10] "pure blends". The full
content of all the blends can be browsed [11], including prospective
packages that users are welcome to nominate for addition to the next
release.

Debian may be installed from various installation media such as Blu-ray
Discs, DVDs, CDs and USB sticks or from the network.  GNOME is the
default desktop environment and is contained on the first CD. Other
desktop environments &mdash; KDE Plasma Desktop and Applications, Xfce,
or LXDE &mdash; may be installed through two alternative CD images. The
desired desktop environment may also be chosen from the boot menus of
the CDs/DVDs.  Again available with Debian 6.0 are multi-architecture
CDs and DVDs which support installation of multiple architectures from
a single disc.  The creation of bootable USB installation media has
also been greatly simplified; see the Installation Guide [12] for more
details.

In addition to the regular installation media, Debian GNU/Linux may
also be directly used without prior installation.  The special images
used, known as live images, are available for CDs, USB sticks and
netboot setups. Initially, these are provided for the amd64 and i386
architectures only. It is also possible to use these live images to
install Debian GNU/Linux.

The installation process for Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 has been improved in
various ways, including easier selection of language and keyboard
settings, and partitioning of logical volumes, RAID and encrypted
systems. Support has also been added for the ext4 and Btrfs filesystems
and &mdash; on the kFreeBSD architecture &mdash; the Zettabyte
filesystem (ZFS). The installation system for Debian GNU/Linux is now
available in 70 languages.

Debian installation images may be downloaded right now via BitTorrent
[13] (the recommended method), jigdo [14] or HTTP [15]; see Debian on
CDs [16] for further information.  It will soon be available on
physical DVD, CD-ROM and Blu-ray Discs from numerous vendors [17], too.

Upgrades to Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 from the previous release, Debian
GNU/Linux 5.0 (codenamed "Lenny"), are automatically handled by the
apt-get package management tool for most configurations, and to a
certain degree also by the aptitude package management tool.  As
always, Debian GNU/Linux systems may be upgraded painlessly, in place,
without any forced downtime, but it is strongly recommended to read the
release notes [18] as well as the installation guide [19] for possible
issues, and for detailed instructions on installing and upgrading.  The
release notes will be further improved and translated to additional
languages in the weeks after the release.
