<pre>Hi,
I decided to install Debian 6.0.7 on my AMD64 old Compact Presario. The
installation process went well (as far as I know) until it was time to
start up my new system. As it was scrolling through the set-up after the
GRUB menu it aborted and then the monitor went to sleep. That was as far
as I have been able to go. I have re-installed it a few times with the same
problem occurring each time. I am new to debian and unfamiliar with the
terminology...Just a beginner. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Paul

I like the idea. There are probably enough designers on the

There are needed scripts in the root directory, e.g. check_trans.pl,
check_desc_trans.pl, stattrans.pl, etc.

Some Perl modules, at least in Perl/Local, also need to be written or
adapted (some bits had be written to work with Subversion, so there
might already be some VCS-agnostic scripts relying on the accurate
modules, but that was some time ago, and I have no idea who worked on that).

<pre>I'd like to get a better understanding of what needs to be done for us
to switch away from CVS to git.

1. Can someone please point me at a document which describes the current
translator workflow? [I'd basically like to know which scripts
absolutely have to be modified to work with git immediately, and which
it would be nice to have.]

2. What other areas have scripts that need to be modified in order to
show that they can work with git?

Assuming that no one has any specific objections, I'd like to codify
this all into a serious of bugs so that the progress to switching to git
can be tracked and we/I know what actually needs to be done.

[In a previous message to the list,[1] I indicated a full git checkout
would be about 500M, so we don't need to consider submodules.]

I'm especially interested in this because I plan on totally revamping
the BTS documentation, and I'd like to do that with the preservation of
history; I'm certain that there are other sections of the website which
would also benefit from git's ability to reorganize easily.

Hi Nicu,

First of all, it isn't "playing" with the logo, the inksplat version is
actually an alternate version of the logo presentation, included in the
"Joy" theme by its designer. Nothing new amongst Debian folks, since
the artwork contest was held about an year ago, and everybody knew
already what was the outcome of it.

Second, the rants against Debian artwork aren't a fresh subject at all;
it's pretty common people start arguing about it *after* the actual
theme submission period, and even later, like in this very case. So
far, I have no memory of any of them providing a better idea or at
least five some other feedback than "this is not good enough".

Whoever wants another version, shall provide one in the first place,
since Debian is not a place where one can simply demand things. IMHO
this is one of the most hilarious bug report against -www I have read
in a while, and it provided me with at least a good laughter :-)

I saw a lot of people being happy with the splats, and feeling a bit
dull about the "clean" version. And since the theme's name is "Joy", we
cannot afford that :-P

I guess patches are welcome, as always. FWIW, Simon did his best in
putting together a decent banner for the website, and I think he did a
pretty good job.

Some of you guys feel it's OK just because you designed or approved
it, but it still looks dirty - as an oil splash or something. We might
argue whether it's appropriate for some geeks to rant over a minor
graphical change on the Debian site, but we could also argue why such an
uninspired change popped up on a major distro's main page.

Please
don't play with the Debian logo like that. After so many years of
service it deserves (actually Debian users) something better. If you
want something new and fresh have a contest, get Debian users to vote
for top 10 and then the Debian board can make the final choice from
those. Has anyone actually run a survey about it that you guys
know/think most folks prefer the splats? </pre>

Thanks for the bug report!

With my desktop-base hat on, in so far as it's mine:

The inkspat shows that we're creative, able to think outside the box,
and have an artistic touch when we need to.

I don't think it's "dirty". Our default has no splats, yes, but we ship
with splats, and I think most folks prefer it with splats.

The original `joy' artwork had these splats, and I prefer to maintain
the artisitic integrity of Adrien's work.

I'd prefer it if the website team didn't change it, myself.

Cheers,
 Paul

Dear Maintainer,

The logo at the top of http://www.debian.org/ is similar to a blotch and
creates a dirty impression. This is bad from psychological point of view.

I recommend to change the logo.

Bug#708390: www.debian.org: The new Debian logo creates dirty impression

<pre>Package: www.debian.org
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

The logo at the top of http://www.debian.org/ is similar to a blotch and
creates a dirty impression. This is bad from psychological point of view.

I recommend to change the logo.
