For patches, either is fine.

Oh, I thought I had pushed the doxygen docs to dpkg.alioth.debian.org
already, I'll do that once I've pushed these changes to the git repo.

Nice, I'll add some more text though to the documentation section, as
it's currently not very helpful.

Applied.

This one I've reworked a bit. Thanks!

I've referred to the deb-version(5) man page instead, so that this is
self-contained in the dpkg sources.

I've changed this to a single line comment, like other enum values.
And used one space after dot.

I've moved the docs for functions to the .c file, because that way
when the code changes it's easier to see if the docs need to be
updated too. And left the title line on its own and moved the
description to a new paragraph.

thanks,
guillem

<pre>Hi,

Attached is a proposed patch to add doxygen documentation for the
contents of dpkg/version.h. I was not sure if you would have preferred
a bug for this or not, so here it is by mail. The resulting doxygen
documentation can be seen at [1].

As an added bonus, there is also a typo fix for doc/coding-style.txt

I think this is a bug.

This is true, but doesn't help you. The unpack of libgtk2.0-cil can
be started, moving it from installed to (eventually) unpacked, without
causing monodoc-browser to be deconfigured, and this is nothing to do
with triggers.

But as you point out there is an additional requirement (perhaps not
specified in the docs) that all the dependencies should be satisfied
when the postinst is run.

Would you like me to try to look into it and prepare a patch for dpkg ?
(Do you need this to be fixed in squeeze or will wheezy/sid do?)

Ian.

Actually, on second thought, being this a one-liner it's easier for me
to fix it up, which I've done locally, and will be included on my next
push.

I assume there is a silent discard happening somewhere. This should be
enough information for them to figure out what's been happening to the
mail, hopefully.

<pre>Hi!

It seems that since around 2012-04-18, there's been no more mails on
git pushes coming through to the debian-dpkg-cvs list. Maybe they got
stuck in some queue in alioth or lists.debian.org?

Checking now my logs it seems the time matches when lists switched
from liszt to bendel.

thanks,
guillem

<pre>Hi!

As mentioned in the 1.16.3 upload mail, I've some pending changes
affecting original strings, and will be using the opportunity to do
some cleanups given that I'm touching them anyway. As such I'd
recommend holding off any translations for now, to avoid useless
work, also in case there's some later rectifications for example.
I'll send another mail once it seems safe to restart translation
work.

The things I've either pending locally or which I'll be working on in
the coming days are mostly --help output and error strings, for the
later I'll probably send a patch series to the list for review by
native speakers and translators.

I'm explicitly CCing Helge and Sven, because you are pretty reactive
to code changes, so to make sure you know what's going on.

thanks,
guillem

Yeah, the last two years have seen a _lot_ of change.

OK. OpenSSH did no longer FTBFS with PIE, even before Andreas’
patch, so it may even have been fixed in the meantime, and I’ll
keep an eye out for others.

Thanks for the message!

Given the note below, that'd be perfect, yes.

Although the current message might seem more clear, if it ends up giving
confusing information it does not serve its purpose well, so could you
rework it with the one suggested by Jonathan (notice the use of single
quotes, though), please?

thanks,

Thanks! These are now in git master. If there's any problem with PIE

No strong reason. The tech-ctte is free to decide any matter of
technical policy they choose to, so there's no constitutional reason
to go the way I was suggesting.

Since it sounds like you've thought about this carefully already,
I'm satisfied. Sorry for the noise.

<pre>

Why?

The solution that was chosen was chosen in part because of the tech-ctte
discussion and because of opinions expressed by the tech-ctte members. I
believe it's a case where we would have made a formal decision had the
process been working more efficiently, and that it's worthwhile recording
that decision going forward. I say that in part with my Policy editor hat
on, as there was quite a lot of discussion about this and related topics
in the Policy context and this decision provides some welcome clarity to
how similar situations should be handled going forward.
