<pre>
We previously didn't enable this for upgrades primarily because it
wasn't possible to. It wasn't possible to upgrade /etc/default/rcS.
Also, quite a few people complained about the semantics of RAM* in
rcS changing since it used to refer to /var/* rather than the new
locations (mainly from RAMRUN and RAMLOCK). To address these concerns,
all the RAM* settings were moved to /etc/default/tmpfs, putting all
the tmpfs-related settings in a single place. However, this does
result in tmpfs being enabled on upgrade.

Whether the default is set to enabled or disabled, we now have a single
place to configure it, which will take effect for upgrades or new
installs. Having a consistent default for both upgrades and new
installs is, I think, generally desirable, irrespective of what that
default ends up being.

What problems did you experience as a result of the change?

Regards,
Roger

<pre>Package: gir1.2-dee-1.0
Version: 1.0.10-1
Severity: serious
User: debian-qa&lt; at &gt;lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts replaces-without-breaks

Hi,

during a test with piuparts and EDOS tools I noticed your package causes
removal of files that also belong to another package.
This is caused by using Replaces without corresponding Breaks.

The installation sequence to reproduce this problem is

  apt-get install gir1.2-dee-0.5
  # (1)
  apt-get install gir1.2-dee-1.0
  apt-get remove gir1.2-dee-1.0
  # (2)

The list of installed files at points (1) and (2) should be identical,
but the following files have disappeared:

  /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/gi/overrides/Dee.py
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/overrides/Dee.py

This is a serious bug violating policy 7.6, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-replaces
and also see the footnote that describes this incorrect behavior
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/footnotes.html#f53

The gir1.2-dee-1.0 package has the following relationships with gir1.2-dee-0.5:

  Conflicts: n/a
  Breaks: n/a
  Replaces: gir1.2-dee-0.5

Hi.

Yes. Known and already fixes. All builds failed the same...

Configure option needlessly called.

At linuxtag right now so only can upload sat/sun...

<pre>
This would be confusing for the user, because w3-dtd-mathml is mainly
XML (that's why the contents are under /usr/share/xml), possibly with
SGML compatibility, while the name of w3c-sgml-lib suggests that it's
about SGML only. A name w3c-xml-sgml-lib might be better.

And what about the status of w3c-dtd-xhtml?

<pre>
Hi Cyril,

Sorry yes. (I wish I had a better bug workflow. Stuff like this keeps getting
lost. Kind of ironic given the package.)

OK being realistic, I haven't devoted any time to this program in a long while.
There are a number of transitions that the package needs, not just on the Debian
side but also GTK2→3, glade → gtkbuilder, and no doubt more.

I think the odds are that we should remove it from Debian. The package is not
without merit, popcon says ~40 submitters which is pretty remarkable given the
state of the package IMHO. Some of the feedback I've had suggests the idea is
a good one and people would welcome something that worked; but debgtd is not
there yet.

I currently structure my spare time so that I can devote Tuesday nights to
Debian work. Can we please sit on this until the end of Tuesday next week
(29th). I will try to look at it properly on that day and assess whether I can,
within a matter of weeks, make it shippable. After that day if I have not
managed to do so then I will submit a removal request.

Does that sound sensible?

(that took more than 5 seconds, but it was worthwhile non-the-less.)

Bug#674528: freebsd-glue: removal of freebsd-glue makes filesdisappear from freebsd-buildutils

<pre>Package: freebsd-glue
Version: 0.0.1
Severity: serious
User: debian-qa&lt; at &gt;lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts replaces-without-breaks

Hi,

during a test with piuparts and EDOS tools I noticed your package causes
removal of files that also belong to another package.
This is caused by using Replaces without corresponding Breaks.

The installation sequence to reproduce this problem is

  apt-get install freebsd-buildutils
  # (1)
  apt-get install freebsd-glue
  apt-get remove freebsd-glue
  # (2)

The list of installed files at points (1) and (2) should be identical,
but the following files have disappeared:

  /usr/include/freebsd/aio.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/asm/stat.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/bits/stat.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/bits/utmp.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/bits/utmpx.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/linux/icmp.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/linux/sysctl.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/machine/endian.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/netdb.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/paths.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/cdefs.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/elf_common.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/endian.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/errno.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/param.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/stat.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/stdint.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/time.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/sys/types.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/unistd.h
  /usr/include/freebsd/vis.h
  /usr/lib/freebsd/awk -&gt; ../../bin/original-awk
  /usr/lib/freebsd/gmake -&gt; ../../bin/make
  /usr/lib/freebsd/sh -&gt; /bin/dash

This is a serious bug violating policy 7.6, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-replaces
and also see the footnote that describes this incorrect behavior
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/footnotes.html#f53

The freebsd-glue package has the following relationships with freebsd-buildutils:

  Conflicts: n/a
  Breaks: n/a
  Replaces: freebsd-buildutils (&lt;&lt; 9.0-10)
  Depends: freebsd-buildutils
