Good for me too, and those Fedora people will like us using system

Wolf-Dieter, all,

I agree. 1 more candidate for the "removal".

About "removing", I was more precisely planning a move to the "legacy" branch of our SVN source tree.

And thus, I'd add the bt, K1999 and hymie robots to the list (if you don't mind, Mart).

I believe that all this contents is probably useless for most of SD fans (dev. team included),
but in any case, we could add a line in the INSTALL.txt instructions to list
this unmaintained contents and a little howto explaining how to resurrect it
in a "living" source tree (for the adventurous who'd need / will to).

Cheers,

Jean-Philippe.

Hello Jean-Philippe,

there is the learning code (is an ANN (artificial neuronal network)) in the repository (and it causes build errors sometimes), but AFAIK this code is not used by SD nor by the robots. So let’s move it to the unmaintained part to save your time.

Cheers

Betreff: [Speed-dreams-devel] Can we remove txml and SOLID-2.0 embedded 3rd parties ?

Hi, everyone.

It's more than 7 months now that the replacements for txml (= Expat) and SOLID-2.0 (FreeSolid 2)
have been plugged in our build system, and so made available for testing.

I've personnally systematically used them under Windows XP 32, 7 64 and Linux 64 since then,
without any issue.

So, as expected after the 2 (now fixed) relevant tickets have been fixed,
it's time to check if we can definitely remove this bundled code from SD source tree
(as well as the relevant CMake options : OPTION_3RDPARTY_EXPAT, OPTION_3RDPARTY_SOLID) :
 * txml : http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/speed-dreams/ticket/634
 * SOLID-2.0 : http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/speed-dreams/ticket/712

Under Windows, there's no remaining issue, as we now ship Expat 2 and FreeSolid 2
in our 3rd bparty binary packages.

As for Linux,
* about Expat 2, no issue : it's a maintained package for any decent Linux distro,
* about Free SOLID, not a big deal, but I (unfortunately) expect some discussions
   as it's a quite frozen project with no official package available for most Linux distros ;
BUT : there's an official source package at SF.net, along with a set of patches made available
by the Fedora project (thanks to them), and, on top of that, a CMake patch
             attached to http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/speed-dreams/ticket/712
which makes Free SOLID 2 _easily_ buildable from sources on the vast majority of Linux distros.
So, in my opinion, there's no real point at keeping SOLID-2.0 in SD source tree.

Please, guys (devs and users), I need your feedback for this : tell me if things are OK on your side,
given your specific OS / compiler.

And, brother devs, remember the rule : answer within 1 week, or your opinion will be ignored :-)

Cheers,

Jean-Philippe.

PS: I'm pushing a bit hard here, but I mean it : the more code we keep in the build tree, the more work it is
for those who take care of the build system, and the higher likelihood of build issues as we changes things.
      It's a demonstrated fact ; here are 2 recent examples :
      * I had to spend again 1 full hour recently to maintain the SOLID 2.0 build, when working on #58,
      * and about the same time on the unused robots in src/drivers for the same ticket.
2 hours that I'd preferred to spend for a more productive work, or for simply resting ;-)

for the moment there is no Android version.
I don't sure that a team's member knows well enough the Android SDK a member knows well enough to port SD above.

And I don't sure that the little config tablet hardware was able to run SD.

Cheers

I'd like to be able adjust each of 3 (or more) projector outputs so that

In the Windows world this can be done using applications like:

Any suggestions out there?

The current menus are fairly crowded; shall I squeeze these in somewhere

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hello, everyone.

Good news, isn't it ?

Even if the game description and release notes
don't match with the advertised 2.0.0 (look like 1.4.0) :-(

I'll try and have Softpedia fix it :-)

Cheers,

Jean-Philippe.

Found out that there was a patch to GTR2 released at the end of last year
called 'Power &amp;amp; Glory', funny thing is that it works with the freely
downloadable demo - so you can get to try it out (albeit one track only).

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;
Hi,

One addition to Wolf-Dieter comment:

If no AI needed, a collision detection can be disabled (comment out two lines in the simu code).
Then, if the world is flat, a car can go wherever the driver wants ( you can see our work-in-progress paper here http://www.auto-ui.org/12/docs/AutomotiveUI-2012-Adjunct-Proceedings.pdf )
This was quite quick and dirty solution.

However, there is another possibility for Federico (I let you let him know, if you prefer; don't want to steal your users and potential contributors).
There is a open source (city) driving simulator that will be released end of January by a DFKI lab from Saarbrucken, Germany. It is called OpenDS:
http://www.gethomesafe-fp7.eu/index.php/menu-opends
http://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=&amp;amp;gid=4625987&amp;amp;trk=anet_ug_hm (a group in linkedin)

As I told, the source is not yet online but will be released very soon.
I saw the simulation in action, and it was quite nice.

For the city generation one may use a CityEngine http://www.esri.com/software/cityengine , a non-free tool,
but, as far as I can see, can be used for a quick generation of low-polygon model.

With best regards,
Tigran

Hello All

But it is possible to hide it visually (e.g. set barrier height to zero), so you cannot leave the track but do not see the barrier.
May be this is sufficient here.

Cheers

Hi, guys.

Xavier recently received this request (see at the bottom of this post), and here's what we plan to answer.

Please, review, comment and propose any improvement, and if someone feels interested in working on this ... welcome :-)

==============

Dear Federico,

Speed Dreams could fit your needs, but there might be 2 issues in our opinion :

1) Speed Dreams gaming scheme is about simulating real sports car
    races on _closed_circuits_ :
   * the circuits we design / use feature barriers everywhere on each side
of the track, thus actually (physically) preventing the cars
from rolling out of the track
   * the game engine and the AI don't support multi-path tracks
(there's only one possible path at every point of the circuit,
      except for the pit-lane)
   * we don't have short term plans for changing this
(but we think to make a step forward by adding support
for circuit variants, just like in real life)

But I might have misunderstood your precise plans ...

2) the Speed Dreams team develop the game on its spare time,
and we all struggle to find enough time ; so it's unlikely
that some of us could seriously work with you on this project,
except about giving you advices about how you could technically do it

On the other hand, this kind of "free driving" question has been already asked several times since we are developing Speed Dreams, and to go further in the past, since TORCS exists (as you may know, Speed Dreams is a fork of TORCS), and you might find interesting discussions / people names by browsing Speed Dreams devel and user mailing lists, as well as TORCS's ones.

http://sourceforge.net/search/?group_id=239111&amp;amp;type_of_search=mlists&amp;amp;source=navbar
http://sourceforge.net/p/torcs/mailman/?source=navbar

Anyway, if you find someone to work on this, he/she will be welcome for any question, and we'll be happy to help her/him as much as we can do (we know very well the code / artwork, you know ;-)

Best regards,

The Speed Dreams team.

Its been pointed out that the graphic portion of the track is separate
from the track, normally these aline so that it gives a good driving
experience.

They don't actually ask for a free drive, if the 'route' is scripted they
can have a graphic showing multiple roads - but only follow the one which
is the 'real' track.

Had I got the space I would love to go for the full on arcade sim effect
with big screens and seat that actually moves while driving giving the
impression of realism; like back in the 80s and 90s arcades. Not to

am stuck using the laptop on my lap most of the time :-(
