Hi there,

I tried to send a message to gmane.comp.gnu.mingw.users (mingw-
users&lt; at &gt;lists.sourceforge.net) and I did not get the 'confirm you exists'
email from gmane, and the message was not delivered.

Just letting you know of another list affected by this issue.

Thanks,

<pre>Hi there,

It'd be nice to disable email address encryption for the
gmane.os.freebsd.chromium newsgroup. Most of the FreeBSD.org lists in Gmane do
not have address encryption on anyway, and it's somewhat annoying.

I've talked to the list moderators, and they seem to be OK with that. Please
let me know if you need some explicit/public acknowledgment from them.

The address of the mailing list server for the gmane.linux.kernel.speakup

When I tried to post today, my message bounced. The error from the gmane.org
MTA showed that it was sending to the old list address,
speakup&lt; at &gt;braille.uwo.ca, which (at least as of this morning) was no longer
accepting mail.

What's the next step? Do I contact the gmane.org administrators? Ask the
mailing list administrator to contact them?

<pre>

Well... actually now, it is kind of working with Gnus and gmane on the
Win7/emacs24 combo. It reports the same error/warning you qouted, but
it continues. It could be that it was some initial problems with
entering groups with lots of ticked articles, or it could have been some
network/server issues, or it could have been the phases of the moon or
something...(*)

But what I reported was unrelated to those issues: the certificate for
news.gwene.org doesn't match the server name. The name coded into the
certificate is different from the FQDN the server is opened with. The
name is "news.gmane.org" where the client expects "news.gwene.org".

This can cause strict clients (e.g. gnutls in some cases) to reject the
certificate.

That said: sometimes gnutls rejects certificates based on this mismatch
and sometimes it doesn't, and I haven't been able to figure out yet, why
and when either happens...

(*) After upgrading my imap server from squeeze to wheezy and getting
dovecot 2 instead of dovecot 1 I have SSL issues, but they are for a
    different gmane group

gnutls.c: [1] (Emacs) certificate signer was not found: news.gmane.org
  gnutls.c: [1] (Emacs) certificate validation failed: news.gmane.org

And it works without problem for me. Maybe the problems you experience
stem from something else?

If you don't want STARTTLS, I think you can set
nntp-open-connection-function to nntp-open-plain-stream in your select
method definitions of servers?
