Thanks Bruce. I've never used bar animations, so that wasn't a factor. I'll try your win.close("c=syshadow") suggestion.

I assume this is from an autohide bar.

I don't think there is much I can do as shadows are drawn and hidden by the windows systems routines. PowerPro just declares that the window class used for bars should be shadowed; everything else is controlled by Windows system routines. So as best I can tell, if it is in response to autohide, then it is a problem with Windows itself.

You may be able to delete these extra shadows with a hot key set to
win.close("c=syshadow")
However, this may affect other bars and windows.
Note that system shadows are not part of powerpro process so you cannot use ,&,=powerpro with above to try to get more specific.

You could also try using plain hide option rather than animation using command list setup|all bars.

Hi Bruce.

This is something that has been bugging me on and off for a long time: When a bar with a shadow is hidden, it may leave behind its shadow in a fixed position on the screen (see screenshot at http://postimg.org/image/rghgpvllr/). Restarting PowerPro seems to be the only way to get rid of the artifact. I can't really reproduce it, but it happens often enough to be annoying. I think it may occur when there is a high load on the system while the bar is being hidden.

If there's anything you can do to the code to prevent this, I'd be much obliged.

Thanks!

Thanks, Bruce.

I came to the same conclusion after it was still being weird this morning. And I found the culprit. I had installed some software to let me share my mouse and keyboard between my PC and my Mac called Synergy. After uninstalling that, PowerPro behavior returned to normal. Synergy would have been cool and useful, but PowerPro is way more useful and a must have as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for your help and for the wonderful software!
Kevin

I really don't know, and even if you would somehow, I don't know if you could do that in PowerPro (without using dll plugin to access Windows API directly).

You can set the focus to the desktop window, but that may not be what you want.

I would guess that you cannot do it reliably.

If you search for Setforegroundwindow and getforegroundwindow and read the Microsoft help, you can learn some details about how it is supposed to work.

I think you can set the focus to a hidden window or a window which has been moved off screen, but I have not tested this and I don't know how reliable it is.

I'm afraid all I can suggest is trying to track down what changed on your system to cause this issue. Something must have changed: either you updated the configuration or installed a conflicting program.

If shift is sticking, it is likely that you are somewhere sending "{shift}" alone or incorrectly. If you can find this, then delete it and see if that helps.

If you use {shift} it just presses the shift key and the system sees it as down (regardless of whether it is physically down). To get it to return, you must sent "{shift} again.

This is confusing so latest versions left you explicitly say
{shiftup} and {shiftdown}

This all worked as recent as a few days ago. I have a bar of snippets that is activated by CTRL+ALT+C (CTRL+ALT+V activates the *Clip MenuPaste). Most of the snippets use *Keys commands and some use *Clip FilePaste. Both key combinations bring up their respective lists, but nothing is pasted when an entry is selected, either with the mouse or with the keyboard. The entries that use *Clip do replace what is on the windows clipboard, that can then be pasted with CTRL+V. The *Keys ones seem to do nothing unless they happen to start with a capitol letter and then they seem to make shift stick so that when you click somewhere everything, between there and the last place that you happened to click, is selected and that continues until SHIFT is pressed and released again.

Just now as a test again, the *Clip entries seem to have started working again, but not the *Keys entries.

Thanks for your help,
Kevin

Sorry, no, not planning any more changes to volume functions.

The Windows interface for accessing this information is complicated and tedious to work with. Worse, it is completely different for windows 7, so there is little chance I could ever make it work for XP (which I think you use) now that I have no access to XP.

I have not researched it, but possibly there is a way to access this info with mci interface. The dll function as examples of mci access if you do find a way and the built in mci keyword is not enough.

The all statics and allglobals were originally developed to allow plugin services to save and restore variables to files. This did not make sense at the time locals.

I cant find functions like the two below, am I missing something?

#1)'ALL-locals' function.
All-[globals,statics] functions exist in PowerPro, It would be really nice if a list of 'ALL' the variables in the current scope of execution were available.

#2)'script-extension' function.
Script-[folder,name,line] functions exist in PowerPro, similarly how can we get the extension of the script file?(useful when script not a .txt or .powerpro)

Hi Bruce, I got the script working. Just wanted to let you know that I'm a novice and don't know anything about programming or scripting, but have been very interested in Powerpro and am still learning all its features. If I ask a question, it's because I have spent considerable time trying to learn it but am unable to get a particular function working, and am not expecting handouts. So I read the script and eventually figured it out - thanks again for that, it works perfectly. Perhaps I can study scripting a little more from here. Hopefully I can continue to ask further questions in the future if I need to. Take care.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a little script. I am using a main PP bar with
hidden Windows 7 task bar. Desktop.ShowTaskbarAutohideused to work fine
under WinXP but under Win7 with multiple machines it caused me some
problems with my desktop workarea (win.SetWorkArea), which got reverted
back to windows default and also dynamically created bars with skins,
which got moved from their pinned positions, etc.

I put this script together as an alternative. For best results, disable
"auto hide the taskbar" in control panel and assign it to a screen bump
shortcut. Occasionally start button looks empty, but no worries, itgets
restored if you click on it, or press CTRL-ESC. I left some constants in
case you want to experiment.

Hope you enjoy it.
Cü

You'd have to use hover clicks feature on bar properties for first click then a script to continue while the button remains over the mouse.

If more then one button, and you do not want hover clicking the others, turn off hover clicks for the other buttons.

The following attached to the hover clicks button will click every second:
exec
morecommandasscript

(Put the following in more commands edit control of command entry):
local curButton = cl.buttonundermouse()
if (curButton<0)
return
for (;cl.buttonundermouse() == curButton)
win.debugshow("use your command instead of win.debug")
wait.forinterval(1000)
endfor

If you had more than one button you want to do this with, you could create a separate script file to call from each button and pass the command, parameters, and possibly interval to it:

function runrepeat (cmd, param, interv)
local curButton = cl.buttonundermouse()
if (curButton<0)
return

for (; curButton == cl.buttonundermouse())
do(cmd, param)
wait.forinterval(interv)
endfor

hello,

Is there a way to just hover the mouse cursor over a powerpro button and have it auto click continuously (repeat clicks at a defined interval) until hovering the cursor away/off from the button? There would be no actual buttons pressed on the mouse, or no pen actually tapping the tablet, just hovering the cursor ontop of the button and it begins to click repeatedly until you move the cursor away. I seem to remember having done this before but can't figure it out. Thank you,

xxx means that you need to fill in some string according to the rules for that command. The xxx is a place holder for something that you need to fill in.

The rules for that command that you use fill in a value for xxx should be explained in the next few lines of the help.

For example, in exec hotkey there is this line

"You can also specify the hotkey by id=xxx in the Exec Hotkeys command with ;<id=xxx> in the target field of the hotkey configuration (note ; followed by <). Example: Exec Hotkey Reverse id=thisone. "

Here the example
exec hotkey reverse id=thisone
is given. thisone is what has been filled in for the xxx. The help also tries to explain that the value thisone is set as the id for a hotkey by putting
;<id=thisone>
in the target field.

The help is poory written even for English speakers so I can understand that someone whose first language is not English would find it hard to follow!

Feel free to post further questions.

(The idea of using xxx as a place holder is loosely based on using x as a variable in mathematical equations.)

That changes the media in the Machine's Virtual Box to the Guest Services iso, if autorun is not disabled it will automatically start the Guest Services install dialog. After that you get better mouse services and optional resource sharing with the Win 7 system. I updated XP to SP3 -- got an iso for that from here: <http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25129>. Finally I elected to connect the virtual network cable and ran windows updates.

Virtualized XP Revisted

I have an old laptop with XP Home (OEM) which I've just successfully transferred to a virtual machine.

I collected some BIOS strings from the old laptop by running in a cmd environment:

dmidecode /t0>t0.txt
dmidecode /t1>t1.txt

A windows binary and/or sources for dmidecode can be downloaded here: <http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/dmidecode.htm>

Maybe you could boot your old system using "safe mode with cmd prompt" long enough to run do that, Bruce.

I transferred t0.txt and t1.txt to my Windows 8 box and used some of the values in a bat file. The bat file isn't run until after the VM is created.

More on that here:
<http://silmor.de/windowsinvm.php>

The only values I included in my bat file were:
DmiBIOSVendor
DmiBIOSVersion
DmiBIOSReleaseDate
DmiSystemVendor
DmiSystemProduct
DmiSystemVersion
DmiSystemSerial
DmiSystemUuid

sample line in my bat file:

VBoxManage.exe setextradata "LaptopVM" "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcbios/0/Config/DmiBIOSVersion" "F.34"

If any of your dmi info has only numbers you should prefix with "string:", e.g.: "string:1234"

Note that whatever you choose for your VM name, its name is case-sensitive. All the content is case sensitive.

I backed up my laptop drive with Acronis True Image and converted the backup to a vhd. Bruce, you could do all of that with the XP drive temporarily attached to your Win 7 box with the trial version of Acronis. Might need to run chkdsk /r before you can make the backup. If the drive is not larger than 127GB, instead of making and converting an Acronis backup you could use sysinternal's disktovhd.

After completing the backup, you can remove the physical drive.

I created a new VM (named LaptopVM as in my prepared bat file) with default settings in VirtualBox (but I didn't yet select or create a virtual hard disk, and I expanded advanced settings for network adapter to uncheck the option for cable connected). Before attaching the vhd, I processed my bat file in an elevated command prompt (I needed to close VirtualBox before processing. Scroll up in your console to make sure no errors are reported). Then I reopened VirtualBox and in the storage settings for the new VM, I put an XP installation disk into its optical drive (could be a CD in your Win7's optical drive, or an iso image of it stored on your Win7 HD), and attached my vhd as the hard disk for the VM. Then I started the VM. I got "Press any key to start from CD ..." which I did. Don't selec
t to press "R" for Recovery Console. Instead press Enter for installing XP. It should then detect an existing installation offer to Repair it. Press "R" to Repair. Once complete and booted, you should be able to log in (without need for Activation, yay!) and from the VBox menu for the machine, select to install VBox Guest Sevices.

I hadn't used this laptop in years. It is running PowerPro 4.8 :p

Regards,
Sheri
