To answer your question, the links are always stored relative (or
using UIDs if you enable this, so that links never break even if the
target page is moved), but they are converted to absolute links when
the page is rendered. You shouldn't worry about this - even if you
move your site, Plone will always render the correct link.

As far as I can see Plone uses absolute URLs everywhere. I can add relative
URLs, but if I create a new page, a new event, etc., then they have absolute
URLs on other automatically generated inner pages. Is there any way to
convert these URLs to relative paths? Is there any setting possibilty where
only a checkbox changes this default setting?
Thank you in advance.

SOMO is looking for a (freelance) Plone programmer

SOMO is an independent, non-profit research and network organisation working on social, ecological and economic issues related to sustainable development. Since 1973, the organisation investigates multinational corporations and the consequences of their activities for people and the environment around the world. SOMO supports social organisations by providing training, coordinating networks and generating and disseminating knowledge on multinational corporations in a context of international production, trade, financing and regulation.

SOMO hosts seven websites which are centrally maintained by an installation of Plone Multi-site. The websites have a complex structure, with many internal links and references. We are working with Plone 2.5 and in the coming months we want to make an upgrade to Plone 4.0 and install new features on the websites. Mainly focused on the use of social media outlets and web 2.0. Lastly, we are also developing an Intranet and several community networks with Plone 4.0.

Until now we worked with an external Web Development Company, but to make the work process more efficient and cost effective we prefer to directly work with an experienced freelance programmer, supported by an extern Web Development Company. As such, SOMO has some people available for the front end implementation and management and for basis template and css adjustments.

Are you:
n An experienced Plone programmer or a python expert interested in working with Plone?
n Interested in working with a non-profit organisation and supporting SOMOs’ Mission ?
n Available on short term for 3 to 4 days a week in the coming months?
n Preferably based in The Netherlands and Dutch speaking? Outside The Netherlands we are willing to consider.
n Working accurately and with good communication skills?

In short term we want you to start with the installation of the Intranet. For the longer term we will discuss the available work.

Just a thought, but before you reinvent the wheel, you might want to
look at several existing projects that might provide a good starting
point for you.

1. Zotero (http://www.zotero.org/) - a very mature, open source citation
manager, that has both a personal version (runs as a browser plug-in)
and a server-side citation sharing version

2. There are several library-oriented packages developed in the academic
libary community - that are primarily document repositories, but I
believe also have citation capabilities In particular MIT DSpace and
Eprints. Both are well supported open source efforts. There are
several additional projects out there that provide similar capabilities.

<pre>Hi Erin!

It is great that you are looking for this information here!
Becasue I think I can help you.

I am not a coder, nor a Ploneista, just love good stuff.
Beside all the rumours around Plone - there has been some progress in wiring
this two wings (CIVICRM and Plone) together.
Some of us thinks important to reuse the existing inventions from differnet
cultures :)

Last year, a group of activist from around the globe felt, that there is a
real need between NGO's on the membership management domain,
to work on this connection.

*In Oxford at **The Ecampaigning forum: *

about that, with the lovely sponsorhip of FRY-IT.

who has written about it :

<pre>Hi Erin,

Perhaps your emails got crossed.

By the way, Plone could be an excellent choice this project.

In fact, if memory serves me, a number of years ago (2004-5) someone
associated with Dalhousie mentioned this goal to me and we both thought that
Plone was an excellent solution as it is highly scalable, internationally
accepted (multi-lingual capable) and includes all of the accessibility
features required by law in most if not all countries.

And, yes, you can do all of the things you have requested with Plone as
well.

Sincerely,

Christopher Steel

<pre>Hi Erin-

This is a list about the use of Plone, the open-source content
management system, in nonprofits. Not sure why you're asking a
question about CiviCRM here, perhaps you should try the CiviCRM
support lists. CiviCRM doesn't integrate with Plone, unfortunately,
because the CiviCRM development team has not seen fit to build a
suitable web-services API that could support such integration.

<pre>Hi there,

I'm studying at Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S., Canada and I need a
little help with a project I am working on for my digital libraries class
(I'm a Master of Library and Information Studies student).

We're looking at implementing an open source CRM for a project called
Knowledge for All (K4All). An explanation of the site (that hasn't launched
yet) is as follows:

"Knowledge for All is an open access citation database (...). It will
provide researchers with a single tool to search across all disciplines and
the general public with *free access to a scholarly citations*. Thousands of
libraries around the world will *share project costs and content creation,
thereby contributing staff expertise and saving thousands of dollars on
database subscriptions.* Knowledge for All will be an open source,
customizable tool with robust search features that will give institutions
control over their content and technology."

The CRM would be used to keep track of the site's contributors and automate
workflow. Is there an option to create automated workflows? I can't tell
with the test account.

Thank you,

Erin O'Halloran
