msvcr71.dll error during installation

<pre>hello,

I just installed the bitpim-1.0.7-setup directly from bitpim.org

Upon installing I get

The program can't start because MSVCP71.dll is missing from your computer.
Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing. No luck.

I can see that the .dll is in the bitpim folder.
I used all the defaults during setup.

My computer is an asus laptop k42jr running windows 7

I looked through the listserv history and couldn't find any errors related
to installation.

thanks,

kesten

<pre>Using latest BitPim 1.0.7. Have the LG Revere from Verizon. I was wondering if anyone has had success accessing the data on this phone with BitPim. I got the USB connection to work up to the point where BitPim recognizes the phone as “Other CDMA phone”. Does this mean this phone is not supported or I have done something wrong? When I click on get data from phone, all options are grayed out.

<pre>Hi,

I have a LG Vx9400 device, I used bitpim to transfer contacts to the device. The contacts got transferred, but I am unable to view the phone number in the contact list. The phone number exists in the phonebook entry, because when I try to call any contact in the contact list, the correct number is called. The problem is the number is not visible in the contact list, so to get the number I have to first call the number and then get the number.

Hello to all.
Is there still no solution or bug fix to allow retrieving SMS messages
from an LG phone? An exception is thrown every time.
Would someone please reply as to whether this has been addressed?

Thank you,
Andrew

Error Summary: AttributeError: 'sms_saved' object has no attribute
'inboxmsg'

Note: Attachment size is limited, but I could gather more data, and
break it into multiple messages if needed.

Included:
    Exception dialog
Attachment: 2-11-12_LG enV BitPim log (incl. error)_cropped.txt
        - Note: Most of the phone data files displayed in the log were
too large to send to this e-mail list (832KB total), and contained
largely null characters (/x00), so I replaced these files with "..."

Extraneous notes:
Carrier: PagePlus Cellular (a Verizon reseller)
Phone: LG enV VX9900 Orange
Connected via COM4 on LGE CDMA USB Serial Port
    (Media kit USB cable)

Downloading/ Reading SMS Text Messages on LG enV VX9900 fails/ throws an exception

<pre>Hello,
I would like to save SMS Text messages from my LG VX9900 phone to
BitPim. Every time I attempt this, it throws the same exception.
It always happens the same way in trying to retrieve SMS messages from
the phone.
Standard Equipment:
LG Media Kit USB data cable
BitPim 1.0.7
Windows 7 64-bit Home premium version

This appears to be the same problem, posted over half a dozen times and
applying to many different LG models. However, I have yet to find an answer.

Would anyone please tell me if there is a fix to this problem?
Is anyone currently working on the issue? Please update me on the status.
Let me know if anything else is needed for troubleshooting, e.g. Log and
such.
Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Andrew Kovacich

Re: LG VX9400 and YouTube video

<pre>

I posted this question in September of 2011. It is now January 2012.
Nobody can tell me why an earlier version of BitPim - 1.0.5, worked for the
LG VX9400, but now it does not?? Are you serious? Well, even if you don't
tell me, that's OK. Can you just fix it: to make it work like it clearly
does in the video? That would be good/great!

Thank You.

  To the BitPim Support Team,

I have a weird question.... I learned about BitPim from a YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-i5yay31qc

    In said video, he downloads what looks like '1.0.5 Official Version';
and I think I see it working with the LG VX9400.

I downloaded and installed 'BitPim 1.0.7 Official Version'. The problem
is that BitPim does not work for me with the VX9400. It starts to work, but
no information is gleaned.

This is the weird part: The VX9400 is listed in the online help:
BitPim Online Help built 17 January 2010
....as one of the 'phones that the Developers want'. VX9400 is not listed as
a supported phone in the BitPim documentation for version 1.0.7.

   What's going on????

   Thank You......

SMS subject & memo fields in received messages - LGVX8700

<pre>Hello,

This is more feedback than a question. My problem is that SMS messages received in my Inbox are copied to the Subject field in BitPim, and when the character limit is reached in the Subject field, the message appears to be continued in the Memo field; however, it appears as garbled, nonsense characters there. The message will look like this:

Subject field:

Can you pick me up from

Memo field:

!X-be^u
,&lt; at &gt;m2HWLr7[$ft6$#=nn9H

In contrast, the messages in my Sent box also start in the Subject field, but are copied in full in the Memo field, with the correct characters.

My specs are:

BitPim version - "1.07 Test"

LG 8700 - recognized as LG VX8700 by BitPim (a choice I believe I set manually)

Carrier - Bell

USB cable - labelled as LG VX8500

Mac OS X 10.7.2 - however, the problem existed when I had both Leopard &amp; Snow Leopard.

Sender's carrier: Rogers

I think the problem might have something to do with the sender's carrier, as I do have messages in my Inbox from senders I believe are with other carriers and that are not garbled in the Memo field.

My research on the internet and these forums didn't find anything about this problem that I could see.

LG LX-225 Rave and some interface issues

<pre>I have recently purchased an LG LX225 phone from STI Mobile. STI provides
cheap (9 cents/day and 9 cents/minute) pre-paid service. The phone came
without a data cable. At a cell phone kiosk in a nearby mall I purchased a
MyBat LGVX6100RPDCB02 data cable. It came with a CD of Win XP drivers.
During installation Windows 7 found the correct driver on the MS driver
site. So I needed a utility to upload and download the phonebook, calendar,
etc. A google search found BitPim. I applaud the developers of this
software. Thank you for making this available.

The software installed easily on Win7 64 bit and was immediately useful. I
have a 160 person phone book. After downloading the phonebook to a CSV file,
I put my phonebook entries into the CSV file and uploaded it to the phone. I
found a few problems. I have been able to work around all of them. Here is
what I found.

1) The LX-225 is detected as an LG PM-225. This is not a problem as far
as I can tell. BitPim works except for some annoyances noted here.

2) The phone number type field must be all lower case. In the LX-225
the type (Home, Cell, Business, etc. appear with an initial capital letter).
In the CSV file the "numbers_type" field the data must be all lower case or
there is a type not defined error reported during upload.

3) When the phone reboots after the phone book is uploaded, the phone
detect routine runs too soon. The detect routine runs as soon as the USB
driver detects the phone which is several seconds before the phone has
completed its reboot. Therefore the phone is not detected. The workaround is
to manually detect the phone after it completes its reboot. There should be
a longer delay after the USB driver detects the phone so that the reboot can
finish before the phone detect routine runs.

4) Groups in the phone book for each entry are not downloaded or
uploaded. BitPim has a field name Categories but this does not map to the
Groups data in the phone. Category 1-5 do not map to Groups. The workaround
is to manually enter Groups in the phone and then download and save the pim
folder from the phone's file system. The good news is that is relatively
easy to set the Group using the phones UI. Would it be possible to obtain
the data structure for the PM-225 and the transfer protocol? I might want to
try to fix this.

Thank you to the developers of BitPim

Steve

<pre>Find the model # of your palm, usually under the battery. Go to the manufacturer's website, and search for that model in the support section to see if they offer drivers, download and install them. If you are unsuccessful, email me the model # and windows version and I'll see if I can locate some drivers for you.

Env Touch will not retrieve SMS

<pre>

Hello,

I have an Env Touch. It's about 2-1/2 years old and I've been using BitPM for the same length of time.

I can no longer download my SMS files. All other options - calendar, pix, etc - work fine.

BitPM version: 1.0.7 - Official - I've uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled the lastest version.

Windows op: Win 7

Anything you can suggest would be really great. I'm copying my error and log window below.

Melissa

This is the error I receive:

BitPim version: 1.0.7-official

<pre>Bob,

The list subscriber known as "Alma" was asking the moderator to
unsubscribe them from the list, not instructing you to do so. As a
fellow subscriber and long-time Usenet user, I can assure you, most of
the time you will see this sort of message sent by folks who are
confused about how to do this for themselves.

If you have already received a message from bitpim-list-owner which
explains this, please disregard my interruption.

<pre>Alma,

Why do you want me (and Daniel) to unsubscribe? And from what service?
What did either of us do wrong? I followed all of the directions on the
bit-pim and source-forge sites. I asked a question. Gave all of the
appropriate information. Got a valuable response. And sent a thank you
reply for it.

Your e-mail request to unsubscribe has a flag stating "important mainly
because of your interactions with messages in the conversation" as the
reason to unsubscribe. What the heck does that mean?

What interaction???? What conversation????? I asked a question. I got a
valuable response. I said thank you and explained the steps that I took. 3
e-mails. No conversation. Neither one of us were inappropriate. We were
both on topic. So what is the problem?

I fail to see an issue with that. But apparently you do. Please let me
know what you think either of us did wrong. I will be happy to unsubscribe
from whatever list to which you are referring once I have justification for
doing so. Since it is the only support option for the BitPim program, and I
have no idea who you are (or what you have to do with this): I will wait for
some justification from you. Without support, why would anyone want the
program?

Thanks for your attention to this matter

Bob
