<description>Making Pier configurable is something I spent a bit of time on.

Pier-Jetsam-Environment package (in pieraddons) moves everything that
configures Pier into the PRFrame class heirarchy. You choose your chosen
PRFrame class in the seaside/config app.

The Frame class can be coded to provide default environments (which do
not appear in the tree to users), template environments (when the user
adds an environment it is initialised automatically), stylesheets, and
loading of js libraries.

The package comes with an Admin Frame which presents the same as the old
pier admin.

It has frames which can be subclassed to use blueprint css.

It also has a frame which implements 7 common layout options that you
can style and switch between.

There is even a top level frame which allows subsections of the site to
switch to use different frames.

ftp is easier (just set up a directory under ftp). Squeaksource is even

    <description>Hi,

2008/8/20 Marco Leberfing &lt;seaside&lt; at &gt;exoos.de&gt;:

I think you have to use the rendering callback here... osmething like:

onMouseOver: (html
updater id: 'previewId'; "the div id that will be redraw
with the rendering callback associated here "
       triggerFormElement: 'attributePreview'); "trigger the action
associated to the form element 'attributePreview' callback
callback: [:renderer | "some optional actions" . self
renderUpdateAttributePreviewOn: renderer])

Just search for senders of #updater and see examples. If you have a
squeak-web image, there should be plenty.

hth,

Cédrick

    <description>Hello all,

i would like to update aComponent via onMouseOver:
I?ve tried several things (triggerFormElement: and so on), but nothing
works.
Updating something in the same Component is no problem, but updating
another Component doesn?t work.

For example, i?ve tried:
onMouseOver: (html
updater id: 'previewId';
triggerFormElement: 'attributePreview')

I?ve got a Component with a form called "attributePreview". The
renderContentOn: will be called, but nothing happens, no update.
Are there any examples available on this topic?

Any ideas?
Cheers

    <description>Hi Rich!

May be you won't start with seaside when you do your first steps in
Smalltalk.

I started using the Squeak IDE using the croquet framework. There are
plenty tutorials how to build your first smalltalk app.
have a look at http://www.dmu.com/crb/crb0.html. I think that's one of
the best ways to do first steps in Squeak getting an impression how to
use workspaces, browsers, maintaining the image,....

There are other tutorials too, but dmu.com offers a ver compressed way
to get an impression...

Switching to the actual TodoApp tutorial will be very very easy!

Sebastian

    <description>Hi Rich

Our experience with getting good programmers to Smalltalk is that you
can get up to speed from one week to
three. Now if you can afford to pair program with somebody then this
is a really a huge boost factor.
The language is simple but knowing the tricks of the IDE is not easy
from books.

    <description>Hi James, Sean and Ramon!

Thanks for all of your info, links and stories. I was just scratching
the surface of this last week and you've pointed me in a direction to
find out more. Based on the little that I've seen it looks like
Seaside is very capable of scaling. Now its time to read some more
and come back with more questions.

Thanks again for responding to this request. I can definitely say I
have not received the same responsiveness from other frameworks!
