whole lot, other than that it *can* work on at least one Linux box
(Debian fwiw).

Can you send me your image? I'll at least be able to see if it's the
content or something about your linux system that is causing this.

<pre>I think you're confusing the 6847 with the GIMI. The 6847 was a chip Developed by Motorola for a dumb terminal called TRS-80 VideoTex Terminal, for the farm industry (precursor to the CoCo). The GIMI was breadboarded with discrete components when developing the CoCo3.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS-80_Color_Computer

The logic of the 6847 is relatively simple and constructing a replacementfor it isn't outside of the realm of possibility. The thing was breadboardedwith discrete logic while being designed, after all.

<pre>The logic of the 6847 is relatively simple and constructing a replacement
for it isn't outside of the realm of possibility. The thing was breadboarded
with discrete logic while being designed, after all.

The main problem with this, engineering wise, is that the 6847 and 6883 are
tied together very closely, and the character rate is tied to the bus speed
of the CoCo. The data is fed into it at 1/4 the colorburst frequency
(.89Mhz) and is clocked out of the device with the CLK input at the
colorburst frequency (3.8MHz) - you can't get any more data out of the
device other than an 8 bit input every E clock period. In other words, you
get 32 bytes into and 256 dots out of it per line at best.

It may be possible to scan-double at the device level to drive the output at
VGA frequency, but we can do that with existing analog scan doublers that
exist today.

It also would be possible to add an enhancement like a 32x192 mode in 256
colors, 64x192 in 16 colors.. something along those lines, which would
adhere to the 32 bytes per scanline max that the 6847/6883 supports.

If connecting a CoCo 1/2 to a modern TV is the goal, I think an easier way
to go would be to feed off the luma and two chroma outputs that the 6847 has
and use them to drive the component inputs of a TV (G, R-Y, B-Y) - one of
these days I'll get around to giving that a try and seeing if it actually
works.

Anyway, interesting to think about what's possible.

Mikeyterm should be in the archives somewhere.

cannot remember what it was, but it was written in basic, and I remember

it.

I do remember it was full of DATA statements, and it created a very simple

Anyone remember it. And do you have the basic program written down anywhere?

or
side put disk.dsk 255 /dev/sdb

compile on linux: gcc side.cpp -o side

<pre>Has anyone successfully used sidewalk under Linux? I copied a SuperIDE CF
card via dd and tried to open the image in sidewalk, but it reports
"Archive type not supported". Same thing happens when attempting to access
the CF directly. Here is what Linux (CentOS 6.3) shows for the device:

Disk /dev/sdb: 256 MB, 256901120 bytes
8 heads, 62 sectors/track, 1011 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 496 * 512 = 253952 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xffffffff

I understand that this has mostly been used from Windows. If anyone has
used it under Linux, any tips appreciated. I would like to be able to
browse CF backup images if not directly manipulate them. Thanks!

On a real CoCo3 uing HDBDOS and Drivewire 3 or Drivewire 4, can I use
the RS-DOS LList command to list a BASIC program to the DW vitrual

What I have been doing, is saving it as as ASCII file, then using
wimgtool to extract the file and then use notepad to print it, but that
is a hassle.

Question #2:

I'm trying to create a new CF card for SuperIDE. I used the ideprobe
application from the SuperIDE utiliy disk, and it shows for my CF Card:
Model: PIO
Logical Cylinders: 493
Logical Heads: 16
Logical Sectors: 63
Total Sectors: 496944
LBA is supported

So, my question so as to properly configure the OS9 offset is what
should be the byte pre sector value? (256 or 512)

Thanks

<pre>Mike,
if you're trying to clear the screen on a terminal *external* to the Coco,
then you need to use that terminal's code. If the terminal uses VT100 for
example, the code is:

&lt;ESC&gt;[2J

On a VT52 terminal (such as the Atari ST) the codes are:

&lt;esc&gt;E

Hyperterminal, TerraTerm etc, usually respond to VT100 codes.
