Hi all,

I would like to know if there is a release planned soon for Rhythmbox
2.97. I ask this because Debian 7 freezes in one month and it would
be very nice to have the latest improvements in Debian before then.
I'm not impatient, just interested because I read that 2.97 should
have some
nice GUI improvements.

Thanks,
Kees

may want to check this out as an alternative:

Replace context label with "Enqueue to Rhythmbox", the command for an mp3
file with "rhythmbox-client", parameter as "--enqueue".

Thank you very much for everything. Rhythmbox is such an awesome
musicplayer. It is the textbook case of ease of operation, intuitive
interaction and let me put it this way.."understanding the user"...I
really really enjoy interacting with it. It sometimes makes me feel that
it understands me...I know it doesn't but that is one heck of an
achievement that all of you guys and gals can be very proud of.
So you all can boast about being part of developing and maintaining the

If i refer to the original link

How have you done this so ?

Related Tool for Rhythmbox

Hello All,

I would like to introduce my recent, ready to use project, - “Inmedafit”
application (http://shvachko.net/my3w/vsh_wares_eng.html#Inmedafit).
This application can be Related Tool for Rhythmbox.

Inmedafit application is the software client that allows users to obtain
the detailed information about the network and local media resources,
process the Rhythmbox database, create and manipulate by playlists.

Inmedafit is the GUI-based application software that implements the
following functions:
- Reading, parsing and displaying the playlists which were stored in the
standard pls-format, m3u-format and the Rhythmbox database.
- The manual entering and placing of the individual source items (Media
Resource Locators, MRLs) to the working list.
- Detecting, processing and showing the actual detailed information
(album, genre, title etc) about the stated network and local media
resources (Internet radio, audio files etc).
- Editing the content of the working list and its individual data cells
(with possibility of copying of the present data to the Clipboard and
using by external software immediately).
- Searching and selection of the items, which were stated at the working
list, according to the entered necessary keywords.
- Synchronization of the obtained information about media resources with
the Rhythmbox database (with possibility to add the necessary items or
to replace the content completely).
- Writing the processed playlists in the standard pls- and m3u-formats
(for future utilizing by the wide-used media players like VLC, Movie
Player, Windows Media Player etc at various operating systems).

Screenshot of this application is located at
http://shvachko.net/my3w/vsh_history_snsh_970_eng.html
and documentation is available at
http://shvachko.net/my3w/files/depository/mysoftware/doc/Inmedafit.pdf .

Actual playlist of the known Internet radio stations
(http://shvachko.net/my3w/files/depository/mysoftware/internet_radio_stations.m3u)
which are located worldwide includes more than 1300 items and it
increases permanently.

Looking for the right attributes to write a plugin

Dear Rhythmbox developers

I want to write my own plugin to log extra data of my listening behavior
but I'm having trouble to find the right attributes as I call them.
I can find a lot of examples but they don't seem to work on the new
version of Rhythmbox (2.96).

Can someone tell me how to find basic attributes or functions that give
me i.e. the title and artist of a specific song entry.
I can navigate through the rhythmbox 'tree' but it is huge and I can't
find useful functions or I don't know what arguments they need.

Another question. If I type "dir()" in the Python Console, I get ['RB',
'__builtins__', '__history__', 'shell'].
How can I address the attributes under 'RB' and 'shell' in my plugin?
Where do I find signals in this 'tree' of Rhythmbox like the signal that
a song has changed whereto I can connect?

To support my questions, I have pasted my draft plugin below.
It may look messy. It is a collection of several snippets.
I'm not yet experienced with programming in Python but I'm working on
that...

Thanks in advance
Kind Regards
Dimitri Van Dingenen

Greetings! I have a chumby, which supports streaming from
squeezebox/Logitech Media Server. I have the squeezebox server working
on my desktop and the chumby working as a receiver for it. I'm using
the Logitech interface (http://localhost:9000 on any browser on the
desktop).

Is there any way to control squeezebox through Rhythmbox, so that it
will play either my music files or my last.fm stream, and send it out to
my chumby? It looks like it might be possible, but nothing I try seems
to be working.

I have tried coherence, which just seems to be able to receive the
stream that a squeezebox server is sending. (Am I doing something wrong?)

I have tried https://github.com/jldupont/rb_squeezebox , but it doesn't
seem to do anything at all.

I know of the existence of GStreamer but I don't know where to get started.

If this can be done, can someone give me a more solid place to start, or
even walk me through it? Thank you so much.

It sounds like you're experiencing at least one bug in rhythmbox.
Please open a bug report at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=rhythmbox detailing
how you're reproducing this problem. If you could run 'rhythmbox -D
metadata' in a terminal and trigger the problem, the resulting output
would be helpful.

This was an unintentional side effect - it tries to preserve the
permissions and ownership of the original file, but was keeping the
mtime too. I've fixed this so mtime is appropriately updated now.

possible audio file corruption with Rhythmbox

Hello,

Rhythmbox seems to cause data corruption in Ogg Vorbis files under
certain circumstances. I downloaded a video from YouTube using
youtube-dl, which gave me a *.webm file. I then extracted the audio
track using FFmpeg as follows:

    ffmpeg -i $NAME.webm -vn -acodec copy $NAME.ogg

That is, I told FFmpeg to just copy the Vorbis data, not re-encode the
audio. The resulting *.ogg file could be played without problems.

I moved the *.ogg file to my music folder. I started Rhythmbox and
changed the metadata of the file. When exiting Rhythmbox,
rhythmbox-metadata crashed with a SIGSEGV. When listening to the *.ogg
audio file afterwards, I recognized short gaps at certain positions,
each maybe about 0.1 seconds long. These gaps hadn’t shown up before.
They also couldn’t be heard when playing the file with ogg123.

So I suppose that Rhythmbox had corrupted the actual audio data when
trying to change the metadata. I cannot tell whether the *.ogg file
produced by FFmpeg wasn’t already corrupted in some way, but even if it
was, I would have expected Rhythmbox to not further corrupt it.

Of course, my assumptions can be wrong. Is there another explanation for
the described problems? Have you heard of problems like this before?

Assuming that the file had been corrupted, I wonder whether it was only
this file. Could it be that Rhythmbox has also corrupted files whose
metadata I didn’t change at this point? After all, the message at

    <http://mail.gnome.org/archives/rhythmbox-devel/2011-May/msg00046.html>

claims that Rhythmbox sometimes changes audio files without the user
knowing about this. Is this true? I had expected Rhythmbox to only
change an audio file when I explicitly change its metadata.

Now I wonder to what extend my music collection could be damaged.
Normally, I would look at file modification times to see whether
Rhythmbox has changed other audio files. However, Rhythmbox doesn’t seem
to update a file’s modification time when setting metadata. At least,
the modification time of the supposedly corrupted file was still at its
old value after I had changed the metadata.

Is it true that Rhythmbox changes audio files without updating their
modification times? If yes, how can I tell if Rhythmbox has modified a
file?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best wishes,
Wolfgang

Harshath JR,

I faced the same problem today and solved it thanks to help from mosh on
IRC. These tips might help you:

1. Suppose you installed RB in /somewhere/rb/ (via autogen.sh
--prefix=/somewhere/rb/). Then prepend your $XDG_DATA_DIRS with
/somewhere/rb/share/, and re-run RB.
1.1. To double-check RB tries to read the files you expect it to access,
use strace: strace -f -eopen ./bin/rhythmbox 2>&1 | grep schema

2. The --enable-uninstalled-build autogen switch might help, too. It
makes RB look in the source tree for the files it needs to run.

Hope that helps! Props go to mosh for the guidance.

Rhythmbox 0.12 on Debian squeeze: no sync button

Hi there.

First and foremost, thank you for developing Rhythmbox. It's been working great.

I just was wondering what happened to the sync button. I was trying to
syinc my ipod today but the button wasn't there. I sync'd before (not
a month ago) and it was there. As far as I remember there hasn't been
any updates/upgrades concerning rhythmbox on my Debian 6. Can you tell
me what's going on? I'd really like to use rhythmbox as my sync tool,
other programs just don't do it for me. Thanks in advance. Cheers!

I confirm: the webupd8 ppa worked fine on my Oneiric installation. Be
careful though, you could also totally bork your machine, as happened
to me once with the same webupd8 PPA (with GIMP, I think).

The GNOME3 PPA also packages 2.96:

Good luck!

Hi,

On Wed, Apr 25, 2012 at 2:51 PM, SaRsbretta <sexual_ron< at >scooterjerks.com> wrote:

First of all, PPAs are not official by their nature. :)

Second, this would be a lot of work, depending on the version of Ubuntu.

Rhythmbox depends on a lot of GNOME libraries and other system libs.
If you're on Ubuntu 11.04 or newer (IIRC), you're using the GNOME 2
libraries. Recent versions of Rhythmbox use the GNOME 3 libraries. You
can see the problem: it can be challenging to mix GNOME 2 and GNOME 3
on the same system, particularly if the right versions of the GNOME 3
libraries are not even offered on the system.

That said, I think someone out there -- the "webupd8 team" -- might
have already done this. As you can see, Rhythmbox has a ton of
dependencies that need to be installed along with it in order to
ensure a smooth upgrade experience. This may impact other parts of
your system in unknown ways.

Take a look here: https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team/+archive/rhythmbox

That is the *only* Rhythmbox PPA out there -- official or not -- that
I could find. My advice would be to avoid upgrading Rhythmbox between
the GNOME 2 version (version 0.13.x and earlier) to the GNOME 3
version (version 2.xx) on the same distro, as that could lead to
problems. Upgrades between versions in these two separate "worlds"
should be significantly less drastic, especially once the final
release of Rhythmbox 3.x hits and the ABIs stop changing ;P

Good luck,

Sean
