+ Need_Advice Bugs
+ These bugs seem to absolutely need developer input or
  some special knowledge/setup to move forward.
+ We will be careful about using this whiteboard status
  but hope that once it gets the status, it can be triaged
  quickly by a developer
+ Currently only 2 bugs there, probably will increase as we
  triage but in general should stay quite low
+ http://tinyurl.com/ce6d8km
+ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/page.cgi?id=weekly-bug-summary.html
+ rather more bugs opened than closed

+ bug count climbing a bit:
+ should start falling next week - with more time from Joel
+ apparent decline in quality of bug reports
+ cutting edge people upgraded to 4.0 immediately, and they
  filed good bugs; whereas more and more are 'NEEDINFO' due to
  lack of necessary information
+ Printer Settings
+ Seems like a few things are broken here, individually probably
  not major bugs but combined might be needed to escalate fixing it.
+ fdo#36568 - ignore automatically inserted blank pages, ignored
+ fdo#61186 - several settings not passed on to printer if set

* Security issues (Michael)
+ Avoiding the circus [!]
+ particularly at hot times: SUSE 4.0 + 4.1 freeze + RHEL6 etc.
+ issues with secure / signed updates on Windows etc.

* UX input (Astron)
+ restoring button ordering until we can fix it globally ?
+ talking about x/y/z button-ordering, not ok/cancel
  button ordering
+ only one of these - the un-saved changes dialog
+ a much smaller issue than originally thought =&gt;
  leave in platform-adapted state for now.

* gerrit mails decision (Bjoern / Kendy)
+ sum up the stuff on the mailing list; two positions:
+ more mails with comments in,
   or+ want to see less
+ both do-able, with external list, with reply-to to the
  dev list and a digest -&gt; main list.
+ people unhappy with that (Norbert, Thorsten)
+ concern with 1/2 of the thread being on another list (Norbert)
+ concerned wrt. the amount of people merging the patches (Kendy)
+ moving it to a separate list, motivate people
  even less to merge stuff.
+ counter-productive if sending too much mail to the list (Bjoern)
+ lots of participants 'just filter it away as spam'
+ ask master committers to review other people's patches
+ important learning opportunities from patches + discussion (Norbert)
+ sad to miss that on the list.
+ what should go to what list vs. the main list ?
+ playing with mail feature of gerrit (Thorsten)
+ can create fire-hose to your own liking etc.
+ everyone can do what he/she prefers
+ ideally - some reduced amount to the dev-list: a
  digest of initial patch submissions
+ if people need more: have wiki instructions to
  configure how to do more.
+ eager to have a digest for the dev-list (Bjoern)
+ otherwise happy with Thorsten's proposal.
+ on launchpad - becoming a member of the libo pkg team
+ gets all Launchpad mail wrt. LibreOffice
+ they immediately complain.
+ digests are read-only, don't foster communication &amp; discussion (Norbert)
+ hard to discuss things that way
+ problem with initial fire-hose of comments (Michael)
+ some of these (no-value comments) could have been
  filtered out (Norbert)

+ Proposed compromise: (decide on it next time)
+ build a daily digest of submitted patches -&gt; dev list
+ with commit messages, authors, links etc.
+ turn other notifications off
+ better document the gerrit mail / notification settings
+ encourage people who want to see everything to do that.
+ find out how many subscribers on the dev list (Kendy)
+ 598 full mails and 186 digest guys

* GSOC update (Cedric)
+ we have 13 slots as of now
+ 11 excellent ones, and two weaker selected.
+ next week: trying to help spread the mentoring load
+ no notification of students until Google announce that
+ May 22nd - de-duplication
+ May 27th - students will know.

* Certification Program (Stephan/Kendy/Bjoern)
+ announce new certifications, but first need to get approval
  from individuals as to whether they want to be.

Re: Brochure templates -- Community templates -- new versions

<pre>Just a quick update on the Marketing team brochure-types push.

There are now "workspace wiki pages" for each brochure-types that we
will work on. You can find these on the brochure wiki page where the
types as well as their links to the workspace may be found.[1]

The design of the "community brochure template" has been tweaked by
Mattias (member of the design team). The white logo is better centered
and the bottom green bar has now been put in the frame and locked into
place. This will make it easier to use when inputting text.

You may download the new Community template version A4 and USLtr version
on the wiki. The links to the new version may be found on the wiki
brochure-types page[1]

Feel free to join us on the marketing list if you wish to contribute to
the writing of any of the brochure-types on the list.

Native Language Teams: You can easily contribute to the writing of any
of the brochure-types by discussing it with your nl marketing teams and
sending in your suggestions to the marketing list. It would be nice to
hear from any of the larger native language groups. We need input from
all groups.

Cheers,

Marc

TDF/LibreOffice Brochure Workspace wiki page

<pre>
I have created a "TDF/LibreOffice Brochure Workspace" wiki page[1]. We
can use it to track the work done on the content and text of the
different brochure types as we complete them.

Feel free to add any more types should you think we are missing any.

I have also added the NL (native language) navigation bar. Feel free to
get you own teams working on any of the text and you can help us out by
submitting your version of text on the Marketing list for
translation/localization in EN OR discuss any of the brochure-types with
your nl marketing teams and have someone from your nl marketing team
relay back any suggestions in EN to this list.

Also note that Italo and Charles will have a LARGE say as to what will
appear in some (if not all) of the brochures.

For those of you who are not familiar with our Marketing Team structure,
Italo and Charles are our lead marketing team members -- they share
responsibilities for all that is marketing of the project.

The discussions will take place on the Marketing list.

Cheers,

Marc

Brochure templates -- Official and Community (easy on ink) versions

<pre>
We have completed the template design of the official and community
brochures. Thanks to all of the people who participated in creating
these on the design list.

We can now start working on content for these brochures. There is a list
of "brochure-types" on one of our discussions. If you feel like you are
able to help out with content for any brochure-type, feel free to start
a thread to develop the content. We should be able to compose content
for most of the brochure-types and then offer these to our native
language teams for them to work on.

We will need to prepare 4 brochures for each brochure-types (1-official
A4 version; 1-official USLtr version; 1-community A4 version;
1-community USLtr version).

Have fun participating on the content creation.

====================
OFFICIAL BROCHURE
====================

The official version is really for off-set printers and the design notes
on the centre panel should really be followed (the design font and
colors are listed)

The files can be found here:

[2]
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:LibreOfficeV.4.0.x-OfficialBrochureTemplate-USLtr.odt

====================
====================

====================
COMMUNITY BROCHURE
====================

The community version is really for conferences, LUG meetings, small
print runs on business/home printers, etc. The community version makes
use of the community logo (it does NOT have the subline "The Document
Foundation". It is also designed to be as "ink-friendly" as possible
without compromising the look and feel of a LibreOffice brochure.

[ANN] LibreOffice 4.0.3 RC3 available

<pre>Dear Community,

The Document Foundation is pleased to announce the third release
candidate of our upcoming LibreOffice 4.0.3. This will be the third in
a series of frequent updates to our feature-packed 4.0 branch. Please
be aware that LibreOffice 4.0.3 RC3 is not ready for production use,
you should continue to use LibreOffice 4.0.2 for that.

The release is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X from our QA
builds download page at

  http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/

Should you find bugs, please report them to the FreeDesktop Bugzilla:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org

A good way to assess the release candidate quality is to run some
specific manual tests on it, our TCM wiki page has more details:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests#Full_Regression_Test

  - or checkout our manual test database for starting right away -

http://manual-test.libreoffice.org/runtests/

For other ways to get involved with this exciting project - you can
e.g. contribute code:

  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/developers/

translate LibreOffice to your language:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LibreOffice_Localization_Guide

or help with funding our operations:

  http://donate.libreoffice.org/

Release candidate 2 was built and is available via
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ - but
is superseded by RC3 due to a showstopper found. The list of issues
and fixed bugs for 4.0.3 RC2 is in our wiki:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.3/RC2

Whereas the list of known issues and fixed bugs with 4.0.3 RC3 is
available from here:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/4.0.3/RC3

Let us close again with a BIG Thank You! to all of you having
contributed to the LibreOffice project - this release would not have
been possible without your help.

Yours,

The Document Foundation Board of Directors

Seeking for list moderators

<pre>Hello,

at the moment, we are looking for volunteers who could help moderate
this mailing list.

If you are interested, the only requirement is that you are subscribed
to the list yourself and read its mails in a somehow timely manner, but
that's about it.

Moderation means dealing with e-mails that do not automatically make it
to the list, which you then manually forward, or reject. This happens
either when an e-mail comes from an unknown sender, e.g. when a project
member uses a different address for posting. It also occurs when someone
unexperienced writes to the list, thinking it's a private account, but
in fact it's a public list.

You'll receive the message to be moderated via e-mail, which you then
can either "moderate through", or reject.

Is someone interested in joining our efforts? It'd be much appreciated -
just drop me an email (please also copy me directly, and not only the
list), then I'm happy to add you to the list of moderators.

Thanks!
Florian

bingo :-)

maxmind's demo shows the same result, so no misconfiguration on your

as part of the move to a new infrastructure, I've also enabled an
IPv6-capable download page for testing purposes. As the GeoIP module was
a bit too old, I had to compile it manually, and that's why I seek your
assistance. ;-)

Those of you having IPv6 connectivity, can you please go to

http://download-test.documentfoundation.org/TIMESTAMP.mirrorlist

and check if you get the country you're located in as result? It should
look like

List of best mirrors for IP address 2a01:4f8:190:3144::2, located in
Germany (DE)

with your IP and country respectively.

In case you get only IPv4 - that's normal, nothing to report, might be
related to Happy Eyeballs. [1] In case you get IPv6 and the right
country is shown - no need to report either. ;-)

But in case you have IPv6, and a wrong or unknown country is shown,
please let me know, so I can investigate. From time to time, this can
happen with tunnels, especially those from tunnelbroker.net based on my
experience, but in general, it should be working.

I only want to enable IPv6 for the production site when all is working.

Thanks for your feedback in advance!
Florian

<pre>Hello,

you are probably as annoyed as I am by these kind of e-mails, but bilbo
needs another downtime due to a disk replacement. This time, it's not
the SSD dying again, but the regular SATA disk. After a few years of
service, this is rather normal, so

today, 1400 UTC, which is in approximately two hours

our download server and mailing list will have a downtime of hopefully
only a few minutes for disk replacement.

Sorry for those inconveniences,
Florian

<pre>Hi,

as discussed on the ESC the global header move script is at:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/3367/3

and worked fine on Linux, and the plan is to execute it on master if it is
building on all platforms and if there is a proper advance warning. This is
that warning. ;)

I rebased the change on master today only to find master not even building from
scratch on Linux because of test failures. Because of that I didnt even try to
set the gerrit buildbot on it, and instead used the last known good state of
master (the one I pushed it the script to gerrit with), executed the move and
scheduled a gerrit build agianst that:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/3465/

That build succeeds on Linux and Windows, but fails again on OSX *sigh* due to
as it seems another unrelated master breakage, preventing me _again_ to check
if this works on all platforms. So this has to be played into the dark
unfortunately.

I plan to execute the global header move on Tuesday, 2013-04-23, hoping that
the weekend changes are merged on Monday and the master is in a reasonable
state then. The plan is as follows:
- I will rebase the script against master on 2013-04-23 1200 UTC and again
  execute and trigger the build on gerrit
- if that succeeds, I will push'n execute the script on 2013-04-23 2000 UTC
  expecting it was not broken by intermediate commits
- if the tinderboxes did not finish in time, I will only wait for OS X as the
  other platforms have been proven to work on other master states already
- if that fails for reasons obviously based in the script itself, I will check
  if I can fix/workaround the issue or if the move needs to be postponed --
  thats what we have the buildbot for
- if it fails on a platform and it becomes apparent its because master was
  broken on that platform before, I WILL execute the move anyway.
- If you broke master on a platform by the time of the move, I fully expect YOU
  to fix that up, even with the extra pain of the header move.

tl;dr: Dont break master, but especially dont break master on 2013-04-23!

Master will of course stay open for all as usual, but remember that:

a/ If you have doubts of any kind, you can just push to gerrit to get a testbuild
b/ Even if you do not get a testbuild, you can simply "park" your commit on
   gerrit to merge/cherry-pick it to master on Wednesday after the move
c/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XpnKHJAok8&amp;feature=player_detailpage#t=1399s
   "... people make 1-liner changes, knowing it cant POSSIBLY break, right?"
                                          "(audience giggles uncomfortably)"
   Please avoid doing so -- in general, but even more so on Tuesday ;)

Best,

Bjoern

* Release Engineering update (Petr)
        + 3.6.6 retrospective
+ went well, and lots of fixes distributed
        + 3.6.7 schedule - deadline is June 24th for rc1
        + 4.0.3 rc1 status / rc2 ...
+ rc1 done, being up-loaded to mirrors, nearly there.
+ went well, fixed lots of bugs: 94 bugzilla numbers
  and 200 commits.
+ deadline for rc2 is - April 29th (~two weeks out)
        + 4.1 - feature-freeze: four weeks out: May 20th
+ on-line update 3.6.x -&gt; 3.6.6 patch would be appreciated
  like this one:

* QA update (Joel)
        + 39 unconfirmed vs. 4.0, help appreciated with triage (Wow !)
                http://tinyurl.com/a3csc2o (cf. topic in #libreoffice-qa)
+ actually at 140 (last week 260) - need a new link:
+ Move to: http://tinyurl.com/crxq9od
+ Unconfirmed blockers needing dev input:
+ Slideshow doesn't open:
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62815
+ multi-head presentation issue
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63580
+ Webdav bugs against Version 4
+ seem quite serious but we need confirmation, no one has this setup
+ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?list_id=287066&amp;short_desc=webdav&amp;query_format=advanced&amp;bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&amp;short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&amp;product=LibreOffice
+ GSoC
+ can we encourage new people to get involved with QA
  to start with / triage a single bug ?
AI:+ add a suggestion to do a single bug triage
  to the GSOC requirements (Fridrich)
+ trying to improve policy, going to move forward with netbooks:
  need some Windows 8 machines in the team
+ several new names in the last couple of weeks
+ decided to set the QA meeting time in stone.
+ how to deal with hard-to-triage bugs
+ have been CC'ing devs / sending E-mail out.
+ some reported during 4.0 master, and no-one knows
  how to triage them.
+ eg. an error of some kind, but no reproducible steps ...
AI:+ find a good public test / webdav server (Thorsten)
+ Bugzilla E-mail gateway / quoting
+ discuss details in QA call ...
+ Tollef's great work (thanks to TDF funding) on bugzilla:
+ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/page.cgi?id=weekly-bug-summary.html
+ shows the QA heros: top bug closers, stats of opened / shut etc.

* Research into un-closed regressions during the 3.6.x series (Bjeorn)
+ have done some stats, a rather hard query to unwind from bugzilla
+ found around 2 bugs that might be cross-minor regressions:
+ bar chart axis - but of a nighmarish number of commits
+ kendy's fix - ~trivial can be back-ported easily
+ ergo ~next-to-no still open regression during 3.6.x

* UX input (Astron)
+ stepped-lines dialog - review was asked for
AI:+ be great to have some feedback (Astron)
+ do we need new branding for 4.1 ?
+ best to ask design / marketing.

* MPL licensing (Michael)
+ MPLv1 -&gt; MPLv2 header changes ongoing
+ consensus that DSCM should have credit information
+ ergo remove all redundant credits, user-(C) with permission

* Time-nanosecond API changes (Lionel)
+ (as announced on the dev ML) I'm about to push my "time nanosecond
   resolution" change to master. It was already discussed in ESC call
   (to decide how to do it), so this is just an announce.

+ all the tests we have pass, Lionel - will push in 30mins or so.

* Header rename script (Bjoern)
+ https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/3367/
+ if run the script, everything succeeds, and it builds.
+ at this stage - it ignores sal - which is magic somehow
+ use it as-is &amp; move ahead.
+ do the remaining cleanup afterwards.
+ proposal: at some stage, run it - build gerrit, and push to master.
+ after DateTime change ...
+ soonish, and do test builds.
+ in 2 days ~everything will be broken.
+ is it a pure git mv (Kendy)
+ it is 99% a pure git move, with just a few tweaks (Bjoern)
+ just moving, not modifying.
+ eg. sfx2/ special include to include global headers
  without the sfx2 prefix.
+ Rename limit - what should it be set to in gerrit (Norbert)
AI:+ get a number from Miklos/Bjoern for that (Bjoern)

* Any objections to proposed RTL_LOGFILE changes (Bjoern)
+ no.

* GSOC update (Cedric)
+ Mentors need to register on Google Melange:
+ https://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/org/google/gsoc2013/libreoffice
+ click "Mentors apply, 'start a connection'"

* Certification Program (Stephan/Kendy/Bjoern)

* gerrit buildbot-plugin aims and sync (Norbert, Bjoern, David)
+ blocking on getting the boxes, want the logic in Jenkins not
  in the buildbot / gerrit integration itself
+ TDF boxes could be slave/master/slave - Jenkins like

* Scripting interface for form elements broken (?) (Lionel)

+ I've just sent a message to the dev ML with subject
  "Value of a ListBox, FMC paradigm for Form elements (controls)"

+ C++ module / forms / frm::
+ not only used by 'base'

  In short:
   1) our scripting (UNO) interface to form elements (controls)
   sucks. It exposes the models, but the models don't have a
   getCurrentController() and the control(ler) exposes useful APIs
   that are thus NOT REACHABLE.
+ getView returns the same object as the controller
AI:+ get a second view on what's up (Stephan)

   2) ListBox has the wrong notion of "current value". Change it to
   the right one incompatibly? Add a new "current *bound* value"
   notion to stay compatible, but make the interesting thing
   accessible in some way?
+ has two lists of key/values pairs.
+ with a one-to-one mapping between the two,
+ values that are displayed; and another that is written.
+ getCurrentValue - shouldn't return string displayed,
  but the value
+ on a date-field; don't get Mon/1st/Jan - but an abstract date.
+ not so clear as all that (Norbert/Eike)
+ value written to field, not exposed at all (Lionel)
+ API is a special exception for this box
+ been there for a while.
+ keeping back-compat there is important (Eike)
+ introduce a new method - getActualCurrentValue
+ or incompatibly extend the existing interface
+ can we put it in a property instead ?

        + 4.0.3 rc1 - ~one week out April 15th

* Tentative End Of Life definition (Petr)

                + the lifetime should be ~6 - ~8 months (Petr)
        + sounds good to everyone

* UX input (Astron)
+ curious blog set this morning:
+ constructive points: UX for LibreOffice is not
  at the tip of the spear yet
+ perhaps few corp. customers paying for fixes ?
+ agreed it is fundamentally a UX -hacker- resourcing
  problem, we need more UX hackers somehow.
+ some work on design of templ. mgr ...
                + lots of good work by Raphael
+ tentative #3rd design for colour picker on-going
+ communcation was poor there
+ writer/image-rotation 90degree thought good.

* GSOC update (Cedric)

* Internal galleries / and theme building (Michael)
+ why do we ship pre-canned galleries ?
+ can we build them under Windows these days ? (Caolan)
AI:+ look into Windows gallery builds (Michael)

* Getting on with the public headers issue (Bjoern)
+ no open issues on design if we do it
+ only open: if we do it and when.
+ if do it, do it before 4.1 otherwise wait for 4.1.2 (Norbert)
+ Advantages:
+ removes a chunk of Package_foo_inc makefiles
+ solves incremental build issues when header
  is left in the solver.
+ probable improvements in build time for Win32
AI:+ mass-move &amp; tweak of dmake stuff (Bjoern)
+ also propose to move external modules into an 'external' top-level
+ reduce the 200 top-levels around there.
+ love someone to do that

* Regression testing documents
        + Kendy will fix more today &amp; tomorrow,
  Markus can then re-run the tests &amp; blog

* Hard Hacks (Bjorn)
        + http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/HardHacks
+ should we continue to prioritise these ?
+ review of how the program is going
        + is it a working process? (Bjoern)
                + the idea is good, but prioritization is not ideal yet (Joel)
+ feedback from hard-hack fixes:
+ Markus: 3-4 days to fix - can have no more than 1 per month.
+ Caolan: some of the hard-hacks are too hard
+ bugs from OO.o 2 era.
+ there is a reason why they're not fixed yet
+ David: only fixed Hard-hacks accidentally while working on MABs
+ Cedric: fixed a few in December
+ "Template Mgr bugs more annoying than the hard-hacks"
+ thus prioritising them.
+ developers in general think:
+ there is lower hanging &amp; more useful / fast fixing elsewhere
+ some bugs are really annoying &amp; really easy
=&gt; should be fixed fast.
+ continue it for one more month:
+ see if there is more movement, else get rid /
  change it somehow (Joel)
+ one longer-term hard-hack per dev ?
+ if 2-3 are solved in the next month: continue as is
+ we need need more aggressive management and bug roll-over.
+ if something is not getting fixed, try something else

* Certification Program (Stephan/Kendy/Bjoern)

* QA update (Joel)
+ LibreOffice 4.0 issues for professional use (Rainer)

<pre>Dear Community,

The Document Foundation is happy to announce the first release
candidate of LibreOffice 3.6.6. The upcoming 3.6.6 will be the sixth
in a series of frequent bugfix releases for our stable 3.6
branch. Please be aware that LibreOffice 3.6.6 RC2 is not ready for
production use, you should continue to use LibreOffice 3.6.5 for that.

The release is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X from our QA
builds download page at

  http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/

Should you find bugs, please report them to the FreeDesktop Bugzilla:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org

A good way to assess the release candidate quality is to run some
specific manual tests on it, our TCM wiki page has more details:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests#Full_Regression_Test

  - or checkout our manual test database for starting right away -

http://manual-test.libreoffice.org/runtests/

For other ways to get involved with this exciting project - you can
e.g. contribute code:

  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/developers/

translate LibreOffice to your language:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Translation_for_3.5

or help with funding our operations:

  http://donate.libreoffice.org/

A list of known issues and fixed bugs with 3.6.6 RC2 is available
from our wiki:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/3.6.6/RC2

Let us close again with a BIG Thank You! to all of you having
contributed to the LibreOffice project - this release would not have
been possible without your help.

Yours,
