Hi Bryan!

The last post I can find in my archive which is strictly on topic is a post from you on 15th November 2010 where you ask an interesting question about content-type:)

My policy has been to discard spam (&gt;80% of the messages sent to the list) and allow anything which is XML-RPC related. The reason I have such a liberal approach to allowing off topic posts is that, in general, the people who post off topic get help and (more importantly) if I reject posts then I feel I have to explain why and then I get into long arguments about my decision (bitter experience speaking).

I really don't think that anybody is ever going to make another XML-RPC implementation (at least, not anybody who hasn't made one before). The very existence of this mailing list attracts people who should really be asking their questions elsewhere. Therefore it is useless. Gone are the glory days when we can admire the way Dave Winer bullshits his way out of difficult questions abo</pre>

<pre>XML-RPC is still in use, so it makes sense for those of us interested in
it to have a forum to talk to each other, should we ever find a need.

But I _am_ bothered by the posts not about XML-RPC per se, regardless of how
little time I spend discarding them. Part of the reason is that we're
deceiving people into posting questions they won't get answers to because
they're in the wrong forum. I know many posters just aren't aware of what
XML-RPC is - they think it is a particular library or a particular application
of XML-RPC. (Indeed, most people who write to me for help with an XML-RPC
programming library I maintain refer to the library as "XML-RPC"). That's
understandable.

I suggest keeping the list, narrowly defining the topic, and moderating posts
from new posters to stay on that topic.

It doesn't have to be John, of course. I would do it if John is tired of it.

I guess it demonstrates just how useful this list is that I can ask a few
questions years ago and not have to ask anything since then!

It's such a low traffic list that it's not problem to follow. As
moderator you might see it differently, of course.

Hi Bill!

My archive may be missing some messages but from what I have here you asked 4 questions in 2008 and 1 in 2009. You commented on a thread in 2011 and was most helpful about a Perl problem.

I think that kind of makes my point :)

Not a strong disagreement, but reading the occasional posting with a request for help does not disturb me too much.
I'm fine with both closing the list and keeping it open.

<pre>Hi! I'm a moderator of this mailing list and I propose that we shut it down.

The traffic has been very light for several years and we don't get any questions or discussions about the implementation of XML-RPC any more (which is the real purpose of the list).

We get the odd question about deployment of XML-RPC services and these would be better handled if they were directed at implementation specific lists.

If there is no strong objection I would prepose to shut the list down at the end of this month (March)

Ali,

You should be ashamed of yourself.

This is cheating and if I knew where you were studying I'd report you to your supervisor.

<pre>Thanks to (mostly Bryan) useful, accurate and informative help from this list, I have got my head around using RPC::XML::Client to interrogate an existing XML-RPC server.

Now I understand the concept, I would like to set up my own Server to talk to. And once again, I am baffled.

I have access to a web server running Apache. I understand (pretty much) how Apache listens for requests and serves up pages. In this case, all the web sites are aliased.

But I can't see how to hook-up RPC::XML::Server into this set up.

This really is basic stuff, but the existing documentation (and there is a decent amount of it) really is an aide memoire for those already in the know. And I am not one of them.

Could someone care to replay with a short tutorial on what I should do to get my web server to respond to client XML-RPC request? As ever, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

Looking at it again, I see I mixed up languages here. If it wasn't
obvious, this isn't some fancy new Perl syntax; rather, I meant

  ('Service'  =&gt; \my RPC::XML::int-&gt;new(0),
   'Password' =&gt; \my RPC::XML::string-&gt;new('aPassword'),
   'Text'     =&gt; \my RPC::XML::string-&gt;new('A demonstration short message'),
   ... )

(and I still haven't actually tested this, so don't be surprised if it
needs work).
