CONFERENCE PROGRAM

The conference program is led by three renowned keynote speakers: Phil
Bourne, founding editor of PLOS, will talk about the era of open,
Pockey Lam, of the Digital Freedom Foundation, will talk about open
education, and Dario Taraborelli, of the Wikimedia Foundation, will
talk about current and future Wikipedia research.

The keynotes are enhanced by a strong research track on the different
aspects of open collaboration, namely wikis, Wikipedia, open source,
and open access.

Open space, community events and socializing during coffee breaks and
dedicated social events like the welcome reception and the conference

Back to the future! :)

I just want to say... I read through every submission this year (as I try
to do every year but don't always succeed at), and I was quite impressed
with the diversity and quality of submissions this year. Congratulations to
the program committee for sorting everything out and producing a finished
schedule well ahead of time -- it's a tough job. I think it will be a very
interesting program this year, and as usual I wish I could go to all the
tracks at once!

just focusing on this particular one: I don't think this is necessarily
true. Typically, you're free to make derivatives, as long as you don't give
the impression they are the actual and official numbers. But you're usually
free to copy the table and use in a presentation, report or otherwise in
context; change it for your own purposes (i.e. with the numbers of a
different chapter) etc - as long as you're clear and honest about what
you're presenting.

Dear Wikimania community,

There are currently two discussions on Meta which will have a fundamental
impact on the technical logistics of all future Wikimania bids.

As many of you would know, working documents of Wikimania bids, such as
letters of support and venue information, are conventionally uploaded to
Meta locally because they don't come with a Commons-compatible free
licence. However, currently there's no explicit "exemption doctrine policy"
on Meta, so two discussions are ongoing, with the aim of deleting all
Wikimania-related non-free files which have been uploaded in the past
years[1], and to ban future uploads of non-free media to Meta including
Wikimedia events' working documents[2].

I was also assured recently by the Hong Kong Tourist Board that they are willing with enough notice to help troubleshoot any problems with Immigration.    Kevin's advice below is very accurate about the process. Do let me know if you continue to have problems and perhaps we can get the Board to help.  But the process below has to be be accomplished first.

     I experienced many times of HK visa application. I suggest you to 
try apply the visa from Hong Kong Immigration Department directly 
instead of Chinese embassy. I think HK Immigration Department does not 
require such documents.

     You have to mail (or let someone in Hong Kong to submit ) the 
application form with necessary documents to the Immigration Department 
at following:

     Receipt and Despatch Unit

     Hong Kong Immigration Department

     2/F, Immigration Tower

     7 Gloucester Road

     Wan Chai, Hong Kong

Hi, I'm from Ghana. I'm rexford. I'm sorry this comes off lengthy, but its
something i've faced before so wanna bring it up.

*Bank Statements*
To enter many countries ( I don't know yet for Hong Kong), the embassy
requires the bank statement of the inviting organization or the
organization funding the scholarship awardee aside the awardee's personal
bank statement.

The bank statement is basically required so the embassy knows that the
organization taking you out of your base country is worthy of caring for
you during the timespan of your stay in the new country of stay.
Irrespective of how big or small the inviting organization is, the bank
statement is really essential for the consulars

Last year, I that wasn't available for me from WMDC for 2012 Wikimania.

I want to learn if WMHK has any arrangement for releasing banks statements

Broadcasting Wikimania 2013?

Wikimedia CH already set up a videoconference tools for the movement, we use it during the Education meeting in Milan and it works well.
Like all videoconf system, the bottleneck is the bandwidth of each participant.

Manuel already publish a list of the material needed for a perfect videoconf, but actually you only need a computer, a webcam and an headset (a mobile phone bluetooth headset make a perfect wireless mic).

The tools wkimedia CH choose is intend for on line teaching, it means that we have recording possibility, that box , desktop sharing (need java browser) and presentation display (open format or pdf are the most efficient)

It would be really easy to broadcast any talks or workshop during wikimania, we only need at the minimum:
-one volunteer per conf/workshop to broadcast with a computer, a mic and a webcam (not a built in, not convenient).


If there is a real demand for broadcasting the Wikimania , Wikimedia CH can coordinate the effort.
