108 Wikipedias had their logo updated

<pre>As you may remember, in 2010 the Wikipedia puzzle logo was updated:
&lt;https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia/2.0&gt;
The localisation and update of logos has always been a volunteer-driven
effort, organised mostly by Casey at the time. Building on his work,[1]
in the last 6 months over 100 Wikipedias had their logo updated,[2] with
the last batch yesterday.
Like the 55 Wiktionaries in December,[3] many of those wikis have never
had a localised before; the others were still using the v1 logo or had
some other breach of the visual guidelines.
Many thanks to all the translators and users checking the new logos, and
to the tireless Odder who drew some 66 of those logos and uploaded even
more in the process of doing so. Again, you can still help by adding
translations and reporting errors on the coordination page.[1]

<pre>Hello,

I don't know if anyone's solved this on a larger scale yet, so I asked a developer I know (Commons:User:Lokal profil) about it.

He wrote that it may be possible to upload directly from the URL to Commons. Admins can do it from Flickr. However, two problems: 1) Flickr is the only website this is open to do this from. Permission have to be asked, probably though Bugzilla, to add this exception, and 2) the videos will probably have to be converted to the correct formats locally. This can be done automatically (download from URL, convert and upload). Ask at Commons:Batch_uploading if someone can help.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

<pre>Many videos of math have been released into the creative commons domain.
The headache? how to get them onto 'media commons.

Is there a straight forward way to transmit videos remotely from a site to

thanks.

That means one will have to download all the videos, and upload them back
to Wiki Commons. Isn't there anyway one can upload to Wikimedia commons
with such fast means without having to get it touch a local pc before being
uploaded?

Lets resort to other mailing lists for help

Thanks for the info though.

He did a bit of research into my background, but predictably got it

He goes on to suggest that anyone wanting to insert their favorite

TOR proxies, and manufacture a consensus - or at least, a filibuster.
Tactics I'm sure he theorized all on his own.

Hello!

You are getting this e-mail because you have an active or expired
account on the toolserver.

As you might know, Wikimedia Foundation is building a cloud-based
infrastructure (Labs/Tool Labs) that - in the long run - will be a
replacement for the toolserver. Don't worry! The toolserver will be not
just be switched off. WMF and WMDE would like to support you as good as
possible when it comes to migrating tools. There will be enough time for
this process. We will offer different forms of support which you will
hear of soon.

Right now, Tool Labs is not ready. WMF staff, mainly Marc Pelletier is
building it. You might have seen the general list of n</pre>

I used to hit the same problem, and was given the "account creator"
flag, so I can set up more than six accounts during a session. I think
any admin can do this for you, if you're in good standing.

But that slows down the session, so I only use it as a fall-back; what
I usually do now is ask participants to set up accounts, in advance of
training sessions.

The wording I use, which you're welcome to copy or adapt, is:

 Sign up at &lt;https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&gt;
for a Wikipedia account; when given the option, please give an email
address (it's always hidden, and you can turn off the ability for
people to send you messages; but giving an address means you can
recover lost passwords).the account name may be pseudonymous, but is
personal to the individual, so not "Anytown Library" or suchlike.

<pre>Hi Rexford,

I'm not sure what the original reasoning was behind choosing 6 as the
specific number of accounts for the per IP limit, but it exists to stop the
creation of multiple spam/sockpuppet accounts from one IP.

There's a process you can follow for events if you know in advance the IP
that you're going to be using, see
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mass_account_creation. However, given that
you're currently doing the training session, I'm happy to give you the
account creator user right for your own account so that you can bypass the
limit by creating new accounts whilst logged into your account by going to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:UserLogin/signup whilst logged in,
filling out details except the password field and clicking the "By e-mail"
button.

Let me know if this is okay (please email me directly) and I'll do it now.

<pre>Hi, my name is Rexford

I wish to find out why wikipedia allows only 6 account creation from a
network sharing the same IP address.

I never knew something like that existed.

I'm currently doing a Wikipedia training session and many will like to
create accounts on Wikipedia but we're being blocked.

Any reasons? How to bypass that?

rexford
