<pre>Dear Ammar,

what I did long time ago using version 0.10.2 was: I downloaded the desired
text star catalogs from ftp server of CDS in Strasbourg (I think it was
cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr, (http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/ftp-index?)). Then
I loaded the text files into MySQL databsse. In the end it was 1GB database
(commands necessary for creation described in changes.txt). If you have
MySQL 5.1-32 installed, all the commands from changes.txt and datap.txt are
repeatable but it takes a lot of time. After I loaded the text files into
MySQL database I ran various scripts and queries and created text outputs
with extension .fab (scripts described in datap.txt). Then I replaced the
contents of the file name.fab in Stellarium user directory with the file
created by a particular query, e.g. ads.fab -&gt; names.fab. Then I restarted
Stellarium and had my local designations I wanted. That was the only way to
create a join between Hip catalog and external data, there was no chance of
join with TYC catalog. There was not and</pre>

<pre>Howdy all,

sorry for late answer but:
1) HIP numbers contains only first 3 catalogues - stars_0_0v*.cat ..
stars_2_0v*.cat
2) Stellarium before 0.12.2 use 2 different names for stars, since 0.12.2 -
3 different names. Scientific names you can found within
stars/default/names.fab file, proper names can be found within every
skyculture (variable stars can be found within stars/default/gcvs* file)
3) If you want add designation to all stars then you should refactored all
catalogues :-/

Thank you for your reply, please correct me if I'm wrong. From my quick
glance on your script its looks like your are compiling data from various
repository and using it to create a new stellarium star catalog with added
information or for other means. But it looks like the output/input to mysql
are in plain text file. How do you incorporate those output to stellarium,
you know, since stellarium using *hex* format.

Again plese correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you.

<pre>Dear Ammar,

3 or 4 years ago I played with personal customization of Stellarium as
well. Originally I just wanted to have Aitken and Struve numbers available
and variable stars name search. I have no time for it now. You can search
for my email in the sourceforge archive. I downloaded plethora of text
catalogues from CDS, loaded them to MySQL and made query scripts over the
tables, that provided interested data. I still found the description of the
work and the scripts in my archive, attaching 3 text files, check them if
they are of any use to you. (Knowledge of MySQL is necessary). You find
that names.fab approach has its limitations (I believe the issue I raised
when reporting was still on sourceforge was never fixed).

I think Virgo provides similar functionality but, alas, you have to be
online. I made my customization for myself, always being offline.

Cheers,

Pavel

it's far simpler. Star names are part of a sky culture, therefore they are
stored there, in the star_names.fab file. This is a text file which lists
Hipparchos numbers and the given name.

Kind regards,

After exploring stellarium stars *.cat* files and trying to convert it

I never handles hex files before.... I'm trying to understands it, but
probably wrong. From what I read here:

Implies that the first 3 byte on stars_0_0v0_1.cat are hipparcos catalog
number, but I don't know which one (signed/unsigned int 8/16/32/64) my
guess is the unsigned 16 bit. (btw, I'm using Bless Hex Editor to read the

Could anyone give me pointer of how to read and edit the star catalog? such

We have a project in Sweden, Iceland and Denmark where children have

with this.

The project has cooperated with the Department of Culture in Umeå,
Sweden, and my science center Umevatoriet, together with schools in
Iceland, Denmark and here in Umeå.

There seems to be a method - blitFramebuffer() - that supports scaling:

The idea is not just to replace that function call, but to make the

I think if you wanted to imitate that, you'd need to copy from the FBO

there should be no need to use a square FBO)
Note that copying from texture to texture in OpenGL (other than 4.3) us a

But I think you could use glCopyTexSubImage2D with the FBO's attachment

OpenGL help needed (spherical mirrordistortion progress!)

<pre>Hello to all.

I think I've found at least a part of the reason for the spherical
mirror distortion issues, but I need the help of someone who knows
OpenGL to continue.

I've been reading through the changes introduced by Fabien when he
reworked the SMD feature. I'm working with checkouts of revisions 4190
(hereafter: "old code") and 4192 ("new code").

The re-work moves the distortion painting code from
StelViewportDistorter.hpp/.cpp to StelViewportEffect.hpp/.cpp, and
changes the point in which it is applied from global (the
StelMainGraphicsView class) to just the sky view
(StelAppGraphicsWidget). The code that calculates the distortion
itself remains unchanged.

What I noticed yesterday: the old code used a dedicated OpenGL texture
to paint the distortion
(StelViewportDistorterFisheyeToSphericMirror::mirror_texture). The new
code tries to use for the same purpose the texture of a
QGLFramebufferObject, which is a part of a swappable
foreground/background buffer mechanism. At least a part of the problem
is </pre>

You can change it because this feature not changes strings for translation.

Well, this can be change strings for translation - only for next release.
:-/

<pre>
For example, a change to the magnitude limit keys in the configuration
file, to make them consistent with the terminology previously used in
both Stellarium and other products.

There's also the fact that the displayed name of the Observability
plug-in follows a different capitalization scheme than the other
plug-ins - I've meant to raise the question for several versions now.
:)

Etc, etc. I had made a list of the things I had noticed after my
return to active development, but it seems that I've put it somewhere
I can't find it. :(

Bogdan Marinov

Oh, crap, I didn't manage to do the things I wanted to do in the
trunk. :( This is what happens when one keeps postponing things.
