To continue getting list email you must join the new list. You can do so by going to

Users are not automatically being moved to the new lists.

The Bicycle Touring list is what got me to start hosting mailing lists in the first place, after it needed a new home on December 15th, 1999. Over 11 years later there have been hundreds of thousands of emails between thousands of recipients on this list, helping get new and veteran cyclists excited about bicycle touring. I'm glad to have been so involved in the list, and I'm glad to see it continuing on in a new form. I'll see you on the Google Group.

thanks,
Alex Wetmore

I have a tent I just love but don't like the light orange and white on it. It It is too bright and you can't hide very well with it. The fly is what I need to change. I didn't know if anything would even change the color since it repels water. I wanted to camoflauge it and thought of food coloring but thats just green water so it would probable just run off. I don't want to ruin it but really want a different color. It would be nice and bright if I was lost and someone from the air was looking for me but that will never be the case. The tent is no longer made. Any ideas??

A sports shop I frequent in Germany has a way round that problem: whenI have ordered from them, I have to pay a 50% deposit at the time, plus sign a contract agreeing to purchase the item. I presume that if I didn`t turn up to pick up an item, they would bill me for it anyway, via my credit card .

On somewhat short notice because my schedule allows it, I am planning to ride cross country from Jacksonville, FL to Santa Barbara, CA in April/May/June. I have purchased the Southern Tier maps and am also mapping sections on my own to see friends/family along the way. Does anyone know a great bike shop or bike tech near me between Philly and New York City? Willing to travel. I have an older Miyata road bike and a newish Trek road bike -- and need some help to get bike and gear ready pronto. Suggestions welcomed!

Thanks all -- I have been enjoying this listserv for several weeks now.

Miles,
I hear ya!
I run a shop also and have stock sitting there that was ordered in by someone and never picked up. This stuff builds up over time until we have a Saturday morning sale and generally sell it for less than what it cost us.
How many times we have sat there waiting for the customer to come pick up the tube, or pump, or whatever I can't remember, but what I do know is I appreciate the guy who does that for me so we do it for our customers.
The online pricing seems absurd to me. We deliberately try to keep parity with on line product and generally can, albiet with reduced margin, but i&lt;/pre&gt;</description>

Yes, I wear blue jeans on the recumbent. I'm comfortable.
They don't cost a lot and wear for years. Tried the zipoff
nylon pants. They work. Just don't know where I left them
over the years. I don't worry to much about weight on tour.
Someday maybe. Not now. -Mark Hoagy

Fran,

A few observations that may help. Generally speaking when you send to a
Google list, you as the sender don't get a copy of what you sent, they
figure that you already know what you sent so why waste the bandwidth.

I know that I found all the test emails yesterday rather annoying, my
preference is to wait until I have something to say and then figure out if
the system is working, but for me it's a nice to have rather than a must
have or life and death importance newsgroup.

Other things to consider:
Are you sending from the same email account that you registered into the
Google Group with?

Since gmail on my Android phone beeps almost instantly when new mail arrives
in my inbox, using such a filter to bypass the inbox is almost essential for
a reasonably high-frequency list like this one. Without the filter, my phone
would be beeping even more near-constantly than it already does due to work
emails.

Dear Touring People:

Once, while on a day ride with my usual riding group, the older guys
with us got all nostalgic because these particular bathrooms had genuine
Boraxo powdered soap in the soap dispensers. Good thing too -- someone
always seems to be getting a flat there. In part because often when
we're there we're stopping for a picnic lunch, so the slow leaks have
time go go down all the way. Lots of hands get a little bit greasy.
We're communal tire changers :)

What's your best "I found this in the bathroom while riding" soap story?

Tried out my canvas kitchen sink and like it.
Measures: 9" diameter and 4.5" high.
Can't wash my blue jeans in it but my summer
shorts, socks and shirt works. The sink
weeps a bit after setting overnight.
I'm guessing 16 oz. out of this 128 oz.
one gallon canvas sink. Figure on getting
a 2.5 gallon fabric bucket for my blue jeans.

at this point in time, and to say the LEAST, i've only a very general outline for an upcoming tour and would greatly appreciate your oh-so well-informed suggestions so that i can start planning its specifics

the general idea is to head out from the greater phoenix metropolitan area -- where i'm currently laying over -- as soon as is feasible (see below); into southern utah (for areas like glen canyon and zion); through nevada (deserts...love riding the desert!); to wind up on california's monterey peninsula, no later than mid-june (while, if necessary to work the plan, i can land there earlier)

What am I doing wrong? This is the 2nd time I have had one returned although my membership has been verified. You can see who I sent this to. I don't know what else to do. It gets returned to my spam.

I can't figure how to send mail or access the list. I registered and send a test email 10 minutes ago and never received it. I also don't know how to get to the list. Sometimes I hate computers. I was so comfy before. I know... thats called progress.
