Good morning,

I'm very sorry for the recent outage. During the live upgrade to Solaris
10 update 11 I've run into troubles.

I will install patches now and do another reboot tomorrow.

With this one, I'm introducing some changes to the way MySQL 5.5 is
built to make it closer to how they make the official builds, which vary
according to arch and bitness (though some of their methods seem a
little dubious).
There should however not be any change in the look and feel. And I've
fixed the test so at least it fully passes "make test" now.

I'm planning to introduce it very soon because I need it. I'll test for
S10 on x86 and sparc. If anybody notices some unwelcome side-effect,
please tell me.

Call for projects

Hi guys,

I'm looking for ideas for coding projects at OpenCSW. We have quite a
lot of low hanging fruit, that is projects that can be completed in
limited time like a weekend of a few evenings. We often talk about our
grand plans, but these plans have to translate to small/medium size
steps, or they will not get completed. I've started a new page and
written up a few ideas I had:

small/medium in scale, please describe them! If you have a larger
project in mind, try to split it up to the right size individual
steps.

By the way, you might have not noticed that your first run actually
succeeded. You saw an error message, so you didn't check the $?
variable or the catalog content, but I bet you €100 it was correct.

Why? Because of the new retry code. I noticed that on my VM, when
running a lot of HTTP queries for a long time, a query might
occasionally fail with no obvious reason. Since all RESTful calls are
idempotent, it's safe to retry, so I added some rudimentary retry
logic a few weeks ago. In your first run, one of the queries failed
with a HTTP 500, but it waited a few seconds, tried again, and the
retried run has succeeded, so the process could move forward. So this
failure was so transient that didn't even break your csw-upload-pkg
run! Yay REST + idempotence.

Re: Faster catalog generation

I spent some time yesterday working on the buildfarm[1], and managed
to remove one bottleneck and cut down the catalog generation time from
~80 minutes to ~32 minutes. The new (and current) bottleneck seems to
be what I described in [2]: mass unlinking and relinking of files.

There's also a new HTTP endpoint:
/rest/catalogs/([^/]+)/(sparc|i386)/(SunOS[^/]+)/for-generation/

(Prefix: http://buildfarm.opencsw.org/pkgdb/)

It's quite quick to return and returns all information necessary to
generate a catalog.

The change includes cleanup changes, which I should have separated
into another patch, sorry about that. The fix is a blank line in the
template, which ensures that different catalog names end up on
different lines and are not joined together in one line.

The root cause was a bug in the integration script. The catalogs are
now corrected and pushed out. I'm working on fixing the bug.

the current catalog production is broken ATM:
