Solaris 10 8/11 (Update 10) Patchset applied.

`usermod -G` complains about the group name being too long:

Hello
I moved a Storedge from a solaris server to another one, both are solaris 10 .
I dont see the device with the format utility as I was seeing on previous
server. The previous server was installed, years ago, by another person.
I checked on google and it seems that this storedge is not supported
on solaris 10, I mean the raid manager software is not supported.
It is amazing because I have found it working on solaris 10!
Does anybody had some experiences with this scenario?
Thanks for suggestions... I will summarize.

SUMMARY: how to swap T5220's with hardware mirrored drives

I had two replies. Steve Hastings & Chirs Hoogendyk. Unfortunately, I
failed in my attempts.

I was advised to test thoroughly by booting off either/both of the
mirror drives and making sure things were fine before swapping.

It was noted that the T5220's have LSI MegaRAID cards, but it's unclear
where the configuration is stored: on idprom (doubt it greatly), in the
raid card, or on the disks (or multiple locations).

My testing was an utter failure. The only thing that worked was booting
off the primary disk (with or without the secondary disk). I couldn't
boot off the secondary disk either in its original location or by moving
it to slot 0. It's been several days; I can't remember the error, but I
believe it just couldn't find any boot code. I did not try to add the
boot block to it; I just can't believe that's necessary with the
mirroring done by the raid card (the OS sees only one disk device).

I also couldn't move just disk0 to another machine and boot off it
there. The only thing th

second disk that is in the "wrong disk" status when I run "healthck -a".
Can anyone tell me what the "wrong disk" status signifies? Google has done

other 6x drives are in a zfs pool.

The second T5220 has just two disks hardware mirrored. This machine has
8x core and more memory.

I'd like to pull the ID prom and drives from the first machine and put
in the 2nd machine. I'm not concerned with the zfs disks; I know
they'll just plain work. I'm concerned about the hardware mirrored
drives. The ID prom will need to move due to some licensed software.

The question is where this hardware mirrored information is stored and
whether I'd mess things up with this move.

thank you for any advice. I'll summarize

Sendmail messages not delivered fast

Hi,

I have two Sun servers named mbsun4 and mbsun5.

When I send a test mail, the mail from mbsun5 is delivered instantly
whereas on mbsun4, it takes a very long time.

On mbsun5:

# cat /var/log/syslog

May 8 15:19:37 mbsun5 sendmail[13356]: [ID 801593 mail.info]
q48BJbK0013354: to=<brucemcgill.nyc< at >gmail.com>,
ctladdr=<root< at >mbsun5.xxxx.com> (0/0),
delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=120400,
relay=mailhost.xxxx.com [10.1.1.2], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (
<201205081119.q48BJblu013353< at >mbsun5.xxxx.com> Queued mail for delivery)

On mbsun4:

# cat /var/log/syslog

May 8 15:19:03 mbsun4 sendmail[1815]: [ID 801593 mail.info]
q48BJ3vT001815: to=TO:brucemcgill.nyc< at >gmail.com, ctladdr=root (0/0),
delay=00:00:00,
xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30103, relay=[127.0.0.1]
[127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (q48BJ3Ua001816 Message accepted for
delivery)

I guess the problem is that the mailer and relay options for mbsun4
are not showing the correct values. What changes do I need to perform?
Can anyone please

SUMMARY: Max password length in Solaris 8 (local account)

Hi,

Thanks to all who have replied to my question. In summary (also verified
with Oracle) Solaris 8 does not support password encryption that could
store more than 8 characters in length for local accounts. :-(
Thanks again!!

SUMMARY: Connecting a Sun T2000 to a Cyclades(now avocent)Terminal Server

Hi,

Sorry for being late with this summary.

A Cisco "rollover" rj45 to rj45 cable works.

And, this also works:
You have to use an adapter that Avocent (formerly known as Cyclades) either
sells you (part number ADB0039) or you can make your own:

Cyclades Sun
1 ----------- 8
2 ----------- 7
3 ----------- 6
4 -----+----- 4
        +----- 5
5 ----------- 1
6 ----------- 3
7 ----------- 2

Part number ADB0039 is available on Ebay for $9.99, the advantage of this
part is that you can use your normal cat 5 ethernet cable to connect to the
TS, the avocent part dongles from the Sun box.

Thanks to all who responded.

Summary - SAS drive not seen by controller

Hi All

Ok, many thanks for the replies a number who suggested using raidctl to
check for volumes. This sort of was the issue, BUT not that straight
forward as it turned out, so worth having it listed here for anyone else
in the future.

First a bit more background. I only have here a T2000, 1000 & V245, no X
series available. It turns out the disks were RAID'd on a X4200 system
originally before I bought them.

I tried booting an older version of Sol 10 on the T2000 and got a MPT
error during boot, but came up to single user ok. I then tried raidctl,
it did not see even the controller even though it booted ok on the
system fine and you could see other disks on the internal sas controller
with format.

I then booted a recent version (U9) and with the 146Gb disks in slots 0
& 1, Solaris crashed with MPT dereference error.

I then removed the 146Gb disks, booted to single user, inserted the
disks whilst running and ran raidctl -l, success, I now had volumes
listed. I deleted all of them and eventua

ssh in T2000 ALOM ?

hello all,
i'm wondering what is the meaning of ssh-keygen in T2000's ALOM. I
tought that i can store my public key, but i don't understand how to do
it. What is the use of a ssh key onto the ALOM? there is no ssh client,
isn't it?

Anybody has information about it?

thanks in advance for help,
