After exhibition of the "Resurrection of NetBSD/luna68k" at
Open Source Conference 2011 Kansai &lt; at &gt; Kyoto (near the OMRON HQ)

one LUNA-88K was excavated at OMRON and sent to Aoyama-san

by OMRON guys :-)

Unfortunately the OpenBSD/luna88k has been suffering from hardware
failure for more than four years, and has only recently been able to
restore his machine to working state; there will hopefully be
OpenBSD/luna88k snapshots soon.

<pre>

I do have it installed on one machine. It's definitely nice
to have, but I believe there are some limitations, like only
supporting one CPU for now.

I think the toolchain is really the biggest issue - it's hard to
even get started on anything else without that!

Hmmm, that's good to know! At least those should be fairly
straighforward to replace if I need to.

<pre>

For now OpenBSD/luna88k might be worth to try.

There was unofficial NetBSD/mvme88k port with ELF toolchain ~2.0 days:
http://trac.gds.radiofreeomaha.net/NetBSD

and Mach luna88k sources are also avaiable:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/project/mach/public/src/mkernel/src/kernel/

so NetBSD/luna88k might be possible, but updating toolchain
and m88k MD VM/pmap will be a bit hard task, I guess.

Note it looks LUNA-88K has the same power supply unit as LUNA-II and
I had to replace all aluminum electrolytic capacitors in my LUNA-II PSU
http://twitpic.com/7ftxb0
so I'm afraid LUNA-88K has the same problem in PSU.

<pre>

Not sure.

At least one user still has one original LUNA (black model),
and another has two LUNAs, one LUNA-II and LUNA-88K.

There were two more reports about running NetBSD/luna68k (~1.5?)
on the Japanese NetBSD list in 2000, but I don't know if
they still has the machines.

Probably some more might be in sheds if they are not scrapped yet
because I guess LUNA was an unforgettalbe machine for certain
programmers in early 1990s.

<pre>Hi,

I've committed several fixes for LUNA-II support:
http://mail-index.NetBSD.org/source-changes/2011/11/12/msg028833.html
and now LUNA-II can run NetBSD/luna68k, including mono X.

<pre>I'm not sure if there are any (possible) users of this port other than me,
but I've put updated isiboot program that works on NetBSD/i386 -current:
ftp://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/luna68k/isiboot-20110717.tar.gz
(old one did work on 1.5.3, but not on at least 5.1 and 5.99.54)

See luna68k installation instructions about isiboot details:
http://www.NetBSD.org/ports/luna68k/install.html
(well, this document should also be updated to mention sysinst etc..)

Eventually, this isiboot.c utility should be written
as a daemon like rbootd(8) or ndbootd(8)...
