I've built and put 5.2 based NetBSD/cobalt RestoreCD/USB images:

 http://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/cobalt/restore-cd/5.2/

No visible functional changes in RestoreCD/USB script itself,
and only NetBSD binaries (and CHANGES file) are updated from
the previous 5.1.2 ones. See release announcements for 5.2 changes:
http://www.NetBSD.org/releases/formal-5/NetBSD-5.2.html

restorecd-5.2-20121208.iso.gz is a gzipped RestoreCD ISO9660 image.

restoreusb-5.2-20121208.img.gz is a gzipped RestoreUSB image
for &amp;gt;=512MB USB memory sticks on USB bootable PCs.

You can write the image using gzip(1) + dd(1) on Unix like OSes,
or you can also use "Rawrite32" utility on MS Windows:
http://www.NetBSD.org/~martin/rawrite32/index.html

See also "Restore CD/USB Howto" for actual installation procedures:
 http://www.NetBSD.org/ports/cobalt/restorecd-howto.html
and see files in .tar.gz archive for more details.

Have fun,

so no work is done for NetBSD 6.x based Restore CD/USB (yet).

    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.netbsd.ports.cobalt/3676</link>
    <description>&lt;pre&gt;
G'day Remi,

I've had a similar problem. I have a qube2 I've been messing with lately.
It was stable as all get-out off the 5.1.2 restore CD. When 6.0 came out I
compiled it, moved the new kernel into place and half-inched the system
which then came up. I then intended to re-do the userland and headers and
re-do the 6.0 kernel.

Sadly, the machine became very unstable and would lock up after several
hours under heavy build loads.

I then moved the GENERIC kernel from the install media onto the system and
tried again, more instability. I've since re-installed from the 5.1.2
restore CD and it's back to being stable. There was no kdb on the serial
console similar to your circumstances and the machine being quite remote
has meant that things are hard to diagnose. It's a pity the kdb wasn't
coming up, as it'd make diagnosis a bit easier and I miss a nice game of
hang-man.

So, it's back to 5.1.2. I'll try again soonish I guess, but this has been
my experience.

Al.

This seems very familiar to me, but I searched and couldn't find what
I was looking for. I seem to remember doing checksums on the same file
repeatedly and getting different results.

I know there were some issues related to disconnecting the fan, and
the theory was that the fan added some stability to the power supply.

What you are describing could be hardware instability, but if it's
really related to upgrading to version 6 then maybe not. It is
probably a good idea to take the machine apart and clean it, and
re-seat the riser card and memory if you haven't done it in a while.

I haven't used my Qube 2 machine in a while, but if I get time I will
try it again.

You might want to copy another list, this one has been pretty quiet.
netbsd-users is probably a good idea.

    <title>Diagnosing an unstable Qube2</title>
    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.netbsd.ports.cobalt/3673</link>
    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi,

After some years running quite well, my Qube2 (NetBSD 5.1) started to lock up after a few days, with the serial console unresponsive.
Usage is regular postgresql building and testing, which is quite processor and memory intensive, backup via rsync.
I changed the power supply, but that did not solve the problem.

So I upgraded to NetBSD 6.0, and the machine is now really unstable:
lots of core dumps until the machine is unusable, tar telling that headers are invalid, then succeeding on the same file,

then errors like this:
sendmail: panic: myfree: corrupt or unallocated memory block
[1] Done /bin/sh /etc/dai... |
     Done tee /var/log/dai... |
Abort trap (core dumped) sendmail -t

How do I go about diagnosing what is the problem ?
Are there memory tests, disk tests that I could run ?

Thanks for your help, I would be sad to have to decommission this little machine :-)
