I know it's a bit belated, but I heard that one of my messages got
unstuck from the admin queue yesterday -- so I'm following up to
prevent confusion.
8.0.3-RELEASE is available up on SourceForge and I'm putting the
finishing touches on 8.0.3-RELEASE_MULTIMEDIA, which will contain
semi-supported (i.e. not support.freenas, but forums, IRC, and
"gcooper" supported) apps for Bittorrent, iTunes, and DLNA/uPNP
support; this is recommended for folks who have the patience and the
constitution to modify .conf files in order to get things to work
until 8.2.0 hits 'production'.
Unless something dramatically changes (the only thing that could
change is a minidlna -&amp;gt; serviio/mediatomb conversion, depending on
whether or not someone provides the resources so we can automate
these), this image should serve as an excellent sneak preview of some
of the home features missing from &amp;lt;= 8.0.2 that are present in 0.7,
which will be officially supported and available as plugins in 8.2.0.
Cheers!

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi all,
FreeNAS 8.0.3-RC1 was posted to SourceForge last night, following
the feedback I received on the FreeNAS forums. This contains updated
UPS support via NUT, some other critical bugfixes related to zfs scrub
where it will execute every 35 days as opposed to every 30 days (to
ensure determinism and better ensure that scrubs are run on the
weekend), an automatic snapshot anti-deadlock bugfix, the x86/x64
rebranding enhancement, and more!
Feel free to download the release, but take note the Release Notes
suggesting that users with certain motherboards (e.g. Intel 82578DC)
might need to update their firmware if they encounter boot hangs.
I'll be posting a semi-official multimedia 'sneak preview' image
that contains the DLNA/DAAP/Torrent support missing from 8.0.1/8.0.2
release sometime before the new year if all goes well with the
release. Please note that the image won't contain plugin support, so
you'll need to follow the HOWTOs contained in the following links:

As a followup to the BETA1 email, the AD integration issue is a
bit more difficult to resolve than I originally thought (I've been
distracted from completing the fix, which requires refactoring some
Samba rc.d scripts), so it should be available in 8.2, but it most
likely won't be available in 8.0.3.
Also, the netatalk interoperability issues have been verified
fixed from my end on both Snow Leopard and Lion -- minus the avahi
'bad hostname' advertising issue noted here:
http://support.freenas.org/ticket/1044 .
Thanks,

contain a few more minor requested changes (implement anonymous

We've decided to call the fixes to some of the more critical issues in
8.0.1-RELEASE 8.0.2-RELEASE.

We released 8.0.1 and I immediately went to EuroBSDCon a few days
later. It's been a week and change and I'm still a little jetlagged,
so here we are.

The release notes are really short, because there aren't many changes
from 8.0.1-R.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freenas/files/FreeNAS-8-nightly/FreeNAS-8r8022-
amd64.iso/download

Really nothing new here since RC2, just lots of bug fixes and polish.

You can kick off a scrub from the gui, there's a button that will show zpool
status in the gui, the ldap ssl parameter is a dropdown, you can select
inherit owner in a samba share, there might be a few other minor things.

This is cut from the branches/8.0.1 tree, so it can be upgraded from an RC,
and will be upgradeable to 8.0.1-R, unlike the nightly trunk snapshots.

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi

I am attempting to create a freenas 8 based server for my windows 7
computers. I want to use local user access.
I tried to follow the guide at
http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/CIFS_Shares#Configuring_Local_User_Access
, but the new user I create in step 2 does not appear (and thus I
cannot select it in step 3).
Is there any indication to what I have done wrong?

Kind regards
Neil Boekend

You can download nightly snapshots built from the svn repo from
sourceforge at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freenas/files/FreeNAS-8-nightly/

These snapshots may contain pointy edges and aren't recommended for
anything approaching production use. We do welcome tickets against them
at http://support.freenas.org, but depending on the issue public
releases may get more immediate attention.

So I think this is fixed in svn. There is a caveat.

FreeBSD cannot fsck or mount NTFS volumes that are marked dirty, so
before attempting to import them it's best to run chkdsk from windows.
