It should be fixed now. I changed how LDFLAGS got set and lost the
"-L/sw/lib" which allows atlas to be detected. The "-framework vecLib"
is in the upstream configure script but it doesn't show up in either the
-atlas or non-atlas variants.

Actually that shouldn't be pointing to Accelerate at all, since this is
the -atlas variant. :-) And that "-framework vecLib" is potentially
troublesome.

I'll look into it.

reproduce the failure, you are in a better position to test if the fix is
in place before committing.

This thing is not deterministic, as can be seen from the differing
places where it hangs, when it hangs. I did some tests and tried varying
some parameters to see whether it is completely random, and I think now
it is. In my case (mac mini 4 core), the decisive parameters are
certainly not build-as-nobody (which I have not been using), nor Fink's
make (my first failing attempts were with make-3.82-1 installed, but it
just now also hung with Fink's make removed).

I remember now a related discussion of some 6 months ago on this list in
the thread "Build of cyrus-sasl2-2.1.23-4 on Tiger/PPC fails due to some
lock glibtool is waiting to be removed". There the problem was finally
blamed on Fink's libtool, which tries to be helpful and protect parallel
builds against a non-existing problem, the remedy killing the healthy
patient.

In that thread there were some deep contributions by pogma indicating
that this might be solved in some recent version of libtool, but
apparently nothing came of it, a&lt;/pre&gt;</description>

I have no clue what you mean by 'LE' and 'BE', since you didn't define
them (at least not recently).

In any case, this isn't an important issue because 1) It's cosmetic, and
2) PowerPC support is going away along with Leopard support shortly.

That's what I see here as well. I think the Images demo even shows the bad background in the lower image.

And I am seeing this in MacPorts' XQuartz 2.7.2...

But when I build py27-gtk in MacPorts its pygtk-demo displays everything OK. So it's not a bug in XQuartz but one in Fink. Or the interplay between Fink and X11. And it certainly has to do with LE vs. BE...

This is the first I've heard of this failure without --build-as-nobody.
How many processors were being used?

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;
Nope. The hangup might be coincidental since I don't have any problem
here (10.7.4/Xcode 4.3.2/"Late March" Command Line Tools), but it's hard
to say without actually having a reproducible output failure.

One note: the default logfile option puts the file in /tmp, which will
be wiped when you reboot. If your system does in fact hang again in the
same circumstances and you're using the default option, you'll want to
log your build elsewhere on the next attempt. Check "man fink" for the
available options.

Is there any progress on this? I am just coming home, expecting an
update-all run (no -build-as-nobody or anything) to have terminated,
only to find a huge log file with 10767 lines of

libtool: link: Waiting for
/sw/src/fink.build/openmpi-1.5.5-1/openmpi-1.5.5/orte/mca/rmaps/rank_file/.libs/libmca_rmaps_rank_file.a.lock
to be removed

Any idea how to get this openmpi built on 10.7.3/xcode-4.3.2?
For now, I am removing openmpi{,-shlibs}.
