[ANN] tawny-owl 0.11

I'm pleased to announce the release of tawny-owl 0.11.

What is it?
==========

This package allows users to construct OWL ontologies in a fully programmatic
environment, namely Clojure. This means the user can take advantage of
programmatic language to automate and abstract the ontology over the
development process; also, rather than requiring the creation of ontology
specific development environments, a normal programming IDE can be used;
finally, a human readable text format means that we can integrate with the
standard tooling for versioning and distributed development.

Changes
=======

# 0.11

## New features

- facts on individual are now supported
- documentation has been greatly extended
- OWL API 3.4.4

A new paper on the motivation and use cases for tawny-owl is also
available at http://www.russet.org.uk/blog/2366

Feedback welcome!

KESW is a top Russian venue for discussing research issues related to
knowledge representation, Semantic Web, and Linked Data. Its aim is to
bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators, in
particular from ex-USSR, Eastern and Northern Europe, to present and
share ideas regarding Semantic Web, and popularize the area in these
regions.

Following the success in the previous years, we solicit original and
substantial contributions for this year's technical program. The
program will feature three tracks for research papers, industrial
papers, and posters/demos. Additionally, we welcome position papers to

More and more applications require real-time processing of massive,
dynamically generated, ordered data; where order is often an essential
factor reflecting recency, proximity or relevance. Stream and

reactive and reliable query answering over such massive datasets,
allowing integration of highly dynamic sources. Key to their success
is the use of streaming algorithms th

Description Logics (DLs) are a well-established group of knowledge
representation formalisms targeted towards the representation of
terminological knowledge and reasoning procedures for it. For
applications in areas such as the Semantic Web, Bio-medicine, Context-aware
systems and others, representation of merely crisp information is not
enough. Instead it is important to deal with vague or uncertain terms,
as well as with imprecise definitions in order to reflect better the
real-world semantics and build more adequate knowledge-based systems. In
recent years, several extensions of DLs have been developed to address
these needs. However, many problems remain open in these extensions --

Dear All,

The deadline for applications to the RR2013 Doctoral Consortium has been
extended to April 28th.

Also the grant application has been extended (see the complete call below).

Started last year in Vienna, the RR Doctoral Consortium and related
events (mentoring lunch, poster session) have been a very positive
experience for students at any stage of their doctoral research.

If you are a PhD student, consider submitting a research summary that,
if accepted, will be part of the proceedings of RR2013, Mannheim, Germany.

We would appreciate a lot if you can advertise it to among the students
of your institution or your contacts that may be interested in applying
to the RR doctoral consortium.

best regards,

Alessandra, Domenico, & Wolfgang

International Workshop on Definitions in Ontologies (DO 2013)
July 7, 2013

At ICBO 2013 (International Conference on Biomedical Ontologies)
Montreal, Canada

Website: http://definitionsinontologies.weebly.com/

Ontologies built using OBO Foundry principles are advised to include both formal (logical) definitions, as well as natural language definitions. Depending on the effort, one or the other can be underrepresented. Possible explanations to this bottleneck are the high cost of producing well-written definitions; an insufficient understanding of the nature of natural language definitions or of logic; the lack of an operational theory of definitions; the lack of studies that evaluate usability and effectiveness of definitions in ontologies; a paucity of tools to help with definition authoring and checking. Producing natural language definitions is time-

SCOPE

In recent years, Web users have seen an exponential growth in the amount
of data being generated and exchanged in form of blogs, tweets, social
networking and mobile applications. In this respect, Semantic
technologies have emerged as a potential candidate for modelling and
building of software systems that are privacy-aware.

On the other hand, recent linked-data initiatives from government,

THE 10TH SUMMER SCHOOL ON ONTOLOGY ENGINEERING AND THE SEMANTIC WEB (SSSW 2013)
Celebrating 10 years as the premier educational event on semantic web technologies.
7-13 July, 2013, Cercedilla, near Madrid, Spain.

The applications deadline has been extended to 12 April 2013
See http://sssw.org/2013/how-to-apply/ for details.

The groundbreaking SSSW series of summer schools started in 2003. It is now a
well-established event within the research community and a role model for several
other initiatives. In 2013, we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of SSSW,
with a set of tutors comprising leading researchers in the community, prestigious
invited speakers, networking and mentoring sessions with research and industry
leaders (including former students of the school), and of course, an exciting
social programme in one of the most beautiful locations in Spain.

To ensure a high ratio between tutors and students the school will be limited to
50 participants. Applications for the summer s
