It is (or was?) the bug of the sky2 driver. I encountered a similar

thing you can do is to check the latest sky2 driver from
http://git.kerne.org/ if the multiple problems with the said driver
has been fixed already. If yes then I suggest that you upgrade and
compile your own kernel with the latest sky2 driver. If not then you
don't have a choice but to wait until it is fixed.

If I would guess correctly, the OP is building commercial "packaged"
products out of open source.

I suggest also filing for a trademark with the Intellectual Property
Office if you want to protect the brand name - unique I hope!

This is a Good Thing(tm), unlike software patents.

If you reread the article, you'll note it commits a logical fallacy of
some sort (I need to brush up on my college logic).

http://services.inquirer.net/mobile/08/10/09/html_output/xmlhtml/20081009-165459-xml.html

The article basically says:

(1) Website Foo was compromised (hacked).
(2) Server operating systems are easily compromised.
(3) Linux is a server-based operating system.

Conclusion? Nowhere in the article is it directly mentioned what
server OS the MILF website is running on.

I think the same thing happened with the Inquirer story about your
company. The article made a great fallacious logical leap that wasn't
justified by the available facts. I wouldn't be too hard on the
reporter though. I once worked as a newspaper deskman, and I know that
sometimes what the reporter submitted bears little resemblance to what
eventually gets published. I suspect that that line about Linux was
inserted by one of the desk(wo)men to make the article look "meatier"
(magmukhang may sinasabi).

I'm not surprised at all with this. Inquirer.net has a track record of
publishing sensationalized IT reports, the last of which was the news
that the company I am with is investing P200M to a local startup. The
P200M is true for sure but its not just for a single entity.

<description>A check with Netcraft of the MILF site shows that when it was hacked,
the site was hosted by a Windows/IIS-6.0 server in Malaysia. The
Inquirer was quite irresponsible in its accusation of Linux as the
culprit, when it has not even verified the facts of the case.

The hacking was reported on October 9, when www.luwaran.com was being hosted by Microsoft IIS-6.0, unless the hacking actually happened after Sept 15 but before October 9, when the website was being hosted by Linux-Apache:

<description>Yeah, but read the next statement:

" In July last year, the website of Davao-based independent news
organization, Mindananews (www.mindanews.com), was also hacked."

This gives a new meaning to the phrase "Prone to hacking" doesn't it.

<description>While it's true that under the Intellectual Property Code software per

technical effect, it can be covered by patents. This limited
exception, in contrast to the US IP system that permits the patenting
of software and business methods, is recognized in the EU, Japan, and,
surprisingly, in our country too. I attended a patent conference last
year co-sponsored by the IPO and an expert from the IPO said/confirmed
that software-related patents which have a technical effect can be
patented. I also heard that there are pending applications for
software-related patents with the IPO.

There is some logic in allowing for patent protection for
software-related inventions. For example, if an innovative, patentable
device is composed of both hardware and software (which in the 21st
century is likely the case), then the software component of the device
should also be protected under IP law, together with its hardware. It

<description>you might want to pledge[1][2] your patent to open source if ever
you'll be granted with one elsewhere. that way you'll be perceived as
less evil :-)

I don't think software patents would generally just go away. But let's
just hope there'll be a reform ;-)
