<pre>That is correct. The modem only acts as a bridge (media converter) between the coax and ethernet media.

The router is what requests v4/v6 space. I believe that all of the TWC network is v6 enabled at this point. They have been pushing me a /64 subnet for some time now.

I of course recommend that everyone flash any routers they have, to help avoid PRISM like surveillance programs which may be covertly tapping into your network via stock firmware backdoors.

I run a triple layered, routed, firewalled, ids system of pfsense, cisco, openwrt which I will describe in my presentation.

<pre>

I would sort of like to determine if my connection supports
IPV6, before installing openwrt. I have the slowest conection
internet only, no TV, no phone. 19$ per month. I have heard
TW still has some DOSSYS 2.0 servers.
My cable modem's web page: http://192.168.100.1/cmConfig.htm
says "Modem's IP Mode | IPv4 Only"
but some say that only tells how TW controls the modem not
the IP protocols supported.

http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/ipv6.isp?s%5B%5D=time&amp;s%5B%5D=warner
The web page "IPv6 and Internet Service Providers" says the following
about Time Warner in the section titled "non static":

Time Warner Cable (USA) - Offers /64 prefix delegation with
"option 'sla_len' '0'" and a /128 address for CPE with "option
'na' '1' when configured with wide-dhcpv6-client.

I would like to verify some how that my connection supports v6
without upgrading my router first.

Is there a live CD some where that knows how to pretend to be a
router, so your could plug the system it runs on directly into the
cable mode</pre>

<pre>Ifconfig , ip a, ipconfig . Also its a whole /64 subnet, not a single address. All of your machines will auto pick an ip out of the subnet.

V6 can cause various security and performance issues if not implemented correctly. Its pretty straightforward, but does require some effort.

Shall I do a v6 talk this week?

<pre>Why not upgrade now? Openwrt will be better then any stock firmware.

They've rolled it out pretty much nationide at this point. I've had it for months. On openwrt and pfsense.

I have RR slowest speed. But I have a DOSSYS 3.0 cable modem.

I have a TL-WRT941ND which I can upgrade to OpenWRT whenever
RR supports IPV6. I plan to do that after I know RR is OK.
The TL-WRT941ND does not support IPV6 natively.

How do I know when RR is up to speed on IPV6?
How would I determine my address block?

Has anyone in the area done this?

<pre>Hello, Austin area Linux users.

I am a software developer in Austin. I have been here about seven months. I
do not use Linux at work, but I do use it at home. I use Ubuntu. I also
have a Windows laptop.

I am thinking of buying a new laptop with Windows pre-installed. I will
keep Windows on it, at least for a few years. I may also buy a laptop in a
few years and put Linux on it right away.

Some new laptops have touch screens. Can Linux respond to touch/gestures?
Or is that a Windows-only thing for now?

Also: Will I have any issues installing Linux on a new laptop? I have read
a few articles online about "Secure Boot". I am sure there is a workaround
for it. Up until now, installing Ubuntu was pretty easy: pop in the DVD and
keep hitting "Next". Is it still as easy as it used to be?

Thanks for any info.

know in advance, if not for support or recruitment for panels, for
attendees to know it was going on. That's all I am saying, really, and
it isn't hard. Not telling loud and clear to user groups is a
communications problem.

Im ok though. Got work tomorrow and have a cool head about this, as I
said !!! :)

<pre>There isnt any exclusivity. Mail sometimes doesnt get delivered. Spam filtering, packet loss etc. Or you thought you opted in and you hadn't. Or a million other things.

You have an opportunity to attend for free as provided by Ilan. If linuxfest is super important to you , then go. Once again, it comes to giving back to the community that has given us so much.
