Additionally, the synopsis initially said that this would be a 2 day course. Actually, it is only a 1 day course.

We apologize for any confusion. We will be making an announcement regarding the location of the DAMA Day later this week.

Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) are being used extensively to share and provide data and content. Jim Bean, noted author of multiple books on SOA, XML, Global Standards and Database Design (e.g., “SOA and Web Services Interface Design: Principles, Techniques, and Standards”), will discuss how Data in Motion transmitted using SOA/Web Services differs when dealing with transactional data versus Hypermedia or unstructured content.

There are fundamental differences between strongly typed data in motion as a transactional message exchange and that of a more ReSTful servicing interaction. Where a transactional message is primarily a collection of data elements that are defined by an XML Schema interface definition, and a ReSTful interaction is more resource or content driven (roughly </pre>

This presentation discusses Data Profiling and Database Archiving from the point of view of lost opportunities. Both of these technologies are available to data management professionals to push their management of important data up a notch. They both promise significant cost savings, high ROI, improved operational performance, and better compliance with goals of data governance.

Data Profiling can:
&gt; identify data quality problems that are costing the enterprise big dollars
&gt; identify problems in data feeds received from outside the enterprise
&gt; improve operational processes to find &amp; fix data qual</pre>

DAMA Phoenix update

<pre>We had a great meeting with Dave McComb last Thursday. His powerpoint
presentation is available on our website for downloading. According to
Dave, we're now entering into the "Post Relational Age" where Semantic
Technologies will help us enable more machine processing of our
information - which has exploded "We have created more data since 2005
than we did in the last 40,000 years".

To download his presentation, go to www.dama-phoenix.org, click on "Past
Events"

Also, DAMA International (DAMA-I) has updated the mission, vision,
purpose, and goals statements for DAMA. This should make it easier to
talk about what DAMA is and its value when talking to your management,
peers, and reports.

Mission

DAMA International is a not-for-profit, vendor-independent,global
association of technical and business professionals dedicated to
advancing the concepts and practices of information and data management

Vision

DAMA International's vision is to be an essential resource to those who
engage in information </pre>

DAMA Members - 30% discount on books

<pre>"Morgan Kaufman is extending a special offer to members of DAMA Chapters worldwide through the end of July 2010, as an extension of the successful 2010 Enterprise Data World event. To each DAMA Chapter member who orders 3 or more books, Morgan Kaufman will extend a discount of 30% on the order! The easiest way to order is to visit www.mkp.com and enter the coupon code, which is 99075."

In keeping with DAMA International's vendor neutrality, this offer is not intended nor should it be construed as a vendor endorsement of Morgan Kaufman. It is a volume discount being extended by Morgan Kaufman to DAMA chapter members worldwide at this time and carries no obligations with it.

Personally, it does work, as I have tried it myself to recently purchase numerous books from Morgan Kaufman; the coupon code is valid. Andrea Dierna's email address is included if anyone has any clarifying questions to email to her. I encourage all DAMA Presidents to share this discount offer immediately with your chapter members.
