don't see that tab, so I think you meant.

If I change the Time Preset I see ALL graphs, not just the one I had
before. I'm pretty sure that is fixed in the git repository as I'm not
seeing it and recall it was fixed before.

So that probably means I need to get a 0.9.4 out and stop hoarding the
fixes in git.

<pre>I have this happening on 2 customers (0.9.3), I just didn't realize it was going on with the first one until now.

When I click on Performance, then choose Hosts, click on a host (this example happens to be just a Reachablity graph.. so just a single graph), click on View Now, it shows the graph just fine. When I change the Time Preset from Last Day to anything (for this example, I selected Last 6 hours), it displays all of the graphs... basically every single graph in the system.

This is what /var/log/apache2/error.log spits out:

Check the log:

But if I connect the host and copy the running-config to my jffnms server... doesn't have any problem...

I check in "System Setup" and the folder for "TFTP Server Files Path" is Ok... I mean this is the folder where I receive the tftp files...

Any idea?

Bandwidth measurement and monitoring has always been a challenge,
particularly when a given interface starts exceeding 20% or more
of the interface's theoretical maximum throughput, from all designers
and manufacturer's, imho. The problem of the low level software
development for such are massive and out of scope for this list.

It's a pain in the wazoo, but the following technique usually works
for verification of bandwith measurement and monitoring.

Set up a stand alone, minimize unix system (I use gentoo linux
but many will suffice) and dual interfaces (ethernet, serial, T3) using
whatever hardware you have available. It really helps if the monitoring
interfaces are approximately 10 times larger: (for example, if you want
to measure/monitor and 100 Mbit/s ethernet, set up 2 a linux system
with 2 1Gbit/S ethernet cards. Route your traffic through that
measurement/monitoring system and run any number of low level
measurement softwares: such as bwmonitor:

It's a bit of work, bu</pre>

<pre>Total bandwidth comes from a SNMP get, specifically the ifTable ifSpeed
entry for that interface. A lot of devices mis-report this value, so
first check that it is correct. Also at least in Cisco devices you
can set it with the bandwidth command.

You have to be careful not confusing the bandwidth, or speed, which is
a (generally) fixed value out of ifSpeed with an input or output rate,
which is the delta of ifInOctects or ifOutOctects multiplied by 8.

So an E3 has a bandwidth of 34 Mbps, I think you're saying you are
seeing an output or input over this amount though both your examples are
below this. This would be surprising for two reasons; the first being
that JFFNMS has a clamp to stop that and the second is the SNMP device
should report that sort of figures. It wouldn't be the first time
that's happened: lots of people have been fooled by Cisco 6500s and
SVIs with their bizzare numbers.

This looks good. 206 things need polling, 5 children, 5 things being
polled.

This is the poller returning valid data.
It's looking ok, it has a lot to do though.
If you want to poll just one thing once try
php -q poller.php -i 158
or
php -q poller.php -h 34

which will poll only interface 158 or interfaces in host 34
respectively.

consolidate-2013-04-16.log

I don't see the poller log, maybe that is the reason why there isn't events of interfaces down...

By the way... If somebody has problems with graph images, when I installed this last version of jffnms I found an error with path of the temp images, the default it is on /var/lib/jffnms/tempimages, but the php code try to get it from /usr/share/jffnms/htdocs/images/temp so I created a symbolic link and the problem was solved.

I have some clarification regarding total bandwidth occupied. As an example
one of my link total Bandwidth is 34 MB (E3 link). When i generate graphs
the inbound baandwidth it shows 22.34 Mbps (example) and outbound bandwidth
as 27.23 Mbps. Now if i notice that total traffic Bandwidth increases more
than what is available which in turn shows the Utilization increasing more
than 100%; which i am not been able to understand. Can any one of you
explain what is the reason behind this or there is some problem with the
configuration parameters.

Hi James,

Thanks for the feedback.

I do have some (Older) jffnms installs running on Gentoo, it used to be my Linux platform of choice, but I have a few Linux n00bs working with me now and they voted for Ubuntu over Gentoo. Perhaps I should not have given them a vote, but I was trying to be nice :-)

Essentially Ubuntu is much easier to keep up-to-date and patched than Gentoo which is important in a hosting environment. While emerge is a great packet manager I did end up in dependency hell a couple of times and was bored of watching applications compile.

I am interested to know how are you patching your Gentoo installs. Are you just looking for updates to core packages? I use an authenticated Nessus scan to inform me of missing patches, this worked well but meant I was only patching / upgrading applications when they had security issues, not really proactive..

Regards,

Mat.

<pre>
Nice blog post. I noticed you are running snmpd-5.4.3

My Gentoo system has this current version of net-snmp-5.7.2_rc1

http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/

I hope this is the same base version as the Ubuntu version?

On gentoo, using the latest of a variety of packages
is routine and easy, so if you run into snmp issues,
you might want to drive jffnms on a gentoo system to flush
out version/flag/bug issues.

Net-SNMP is a wonderful platform to use, test, or develop
snmp technologies with....

there is an easy to follow setup guide, just google for
Gentoo ; jffnms ; installation

<pre>Solved it, all to do with the export option.

Put my notes in a blog post.

<pre>Unless I'm looking at the wrong field, the ifindexes of these interfaces
are all pretty low--I just added a new interface and the ifindex of that
one is 749. This is the same number that the IOS command "show snmp mib
ifmib ifindex" returns for the new interface.

Been playing with the two suhosin max_vars settings mentioned earlier; I
don't get working/consistent results until my port.max_var is up in the
high thousands somewhere. In suhosin simulation mode, I'll get
inconsistent results/log messages--sometimes it will log the 'post limit
exceeded' error and the interface add will work, sometimes it will miss
the error and the interface won't add. But raising up those magic
suhosin variables nice and high does the trick, simulation mode or not.
