sound, how do you know that your problem is in the firewall? If it is, check
/var/log/messages for blocked packets.

what boxes in the gui configuration do I have to check to get mutt (I get "Error sending message, child exited 1 ().")
and http://www.srf.ch/radio-srf-4-news/player (I get the player loaded, but no sound).

I run Debian stable.

Is Guarddog incompatible with Kernel v3.2.0?

<pre>Hello.

I think my Guarddog program is not running/working anymore (e.g., no
blockages shown in dmesg logs) after upgrading Kernel v2.6.32 to v3.2.0)
recently. I tried to check its software as root/sudo, but it failed:

$ guarddog -v
Qt: 3.3.8b
KDE: 3.5.10
Guarddog: 2.6.0

# guarddog
No protocol specified
guarddog: cannot connect to X server :0.0
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 31229, errno = 11

It works with regular user, but I don't see my custom settings and
change anything. Is it incompatible with the latest Kernel version? If
so, then is there a replacement for it?

Thank you in advance. :)

<pre>Guarddog users,

I have not found a suitable replacement for Guarddog. I like the zone concept, the simple interface, etc.

I'm willing to bring it up to modern package versions, but I can't maintain it long term.

My questions are:
1) Are there better alternatives that I should just use and not invest any time in Guarddog
2) Is there enough community interest to be the long term maintainer, such that it would warrant me doing the code update.

For my own needs: I would only support 2.6 kernels, iptables, and qt4. Reducing the scope and some refactoring looks like this can be a pretty small package for longer term maintenance.------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and probably not in KDE 4 either. Next time I set a fiewall up, I'm going to
find a different one.

<pre>Hi.

A few days ago, I installed a new clean Debian stable since my old one
from 2004 was badly shaped. I am still trying to configure it up like my
old one from scratch.

How do I run Guarddog v2.6.0 with root/sudo access in Gnome v2.3 since I
don't like KDE v4.4.3 (currently installed too)? I can run Guarddog
without problems if I use KDE and it even asks my root/sudo password.

I noticed running Guarddog as root/sudo in Terminal in Gnome shows:
# guarddog
No protocol specified
guarddog: cannot connect to X server :0.0

I have no problems running other KDE programs like kmail, kruler, etc.
in Gnome though.

FYI, I use Guarddog because it is easy to configure my iptables. ;)

Thank you in advance. :)
