I do agree that it's a Firefox bug -- it should treat non-HTTP URLs as opaque,
but ISTR similar complaints were made in the past and they were wontfixed
for some reason.

Works here (Finland), I can get the main menu with no issues in Firefox,
Elinks and Mosaic-ck.

The only issue is the already mentioned ./ that renders menu items
inaccessible.

Oh, please do tell if you do something more :-)

Anyways I'm glad it's not sharing a home with the webserver any more.
Not that it eats much I just like having things separate and couldn't
justify another box until I started making VMs.

The menu works fine for me, but it contains incorrect selectors, i.e.
your server complains that "/./Cory_Doctorow_-_Makers_Letter.pdf" (first
non-i entry from menu) not exist.

It's intriguing, though, that Overbite strips that "/." prefix from
selectors. That's probably a bug (or misfeature) of Overbite as you
don't publish any /caps.txt that would allow it to do so.

I just started virtualizing my servers and moved my pygopherd server to

The content hasn't changed but there should be a text file saying that
the host is digger.

Hopefully I can get to doing something cool with it later this year.

Yes 3 here in denmark had a bit of the same going, they had a captive
portal system for their 3g net, so if you didnt have any credits left it
would redirect you to their site where you could fill it up with a credtit
card, but only port 80 access, ssh to your own server worked fine for free
net, later on they caught up a bit made it so if would drop the tcp
connection after some 400kb or so, but you could easly browser gopherspace
still.

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi,

Here in Belgium there are two major Telecom company’s. On of them is
Telenet. Customers who have internet service form them have also access to
many wifihotspots.

That are unprotected networks. But when you request a website you are
redirected to a page where you need to login so you can browse the web.

But I have noticed if you do not login you can not browse the www, but
gopher, that works!

Maybe there are also other wifi service providers who have not bothered to
block gopher in your country ?

Gopherspace archive, which included the 2007 mirror.

What I was planning on doing was rewriting the selectors to point to the
local mirror. This would work well for menus, but HTML documents might pose
problems.

with the availability of the 2007 Gopherspace Mirror at archive.org [0]
I've always wondered if it would be possible to recreate a working replica
of the gopherspace on my own machine. I'm thinking of something like
OldUse.net [1] does for usenet.

Has anyone attempted such thing? I assume it would be like a honeynet, just
that it's real daemons, handing out real content.

Cheers,

There are definitely a few issues with non-ASCII characters getting
displayed oddly. I'm not sure if that's a problem in Gopherfeed or a
shortcoming of Gophernicus or some interaction between the two or
what, but I'll try to look into it.

Everything is O.K. now ! I reloaded the source files and the missing file wasn't
missing anymore (may be I deleted it involuntary previously...) But, for the
first build I encounter an error message about "upx". So I emerged (I have a
Gentoo distro) upx-bin and the makefile ran perfectly.

As a Gentoo user since years, I compile everything on my desktop and the package
"app-arch/upx-bin-3.09" wasn't installed yet.

I have tested the both versions, the compiled from you and mine: same !

Thanks,
