Also, If you press 4, 5, 6 down together in the number pad, you will enter diagnostics for the keys, button, wheels and sliders.  This is at a machine level.  All sliders should vary from 0 to 256 regardless of any thing else.

On a Hammond, when you turn on the percussion, the 1" no longer works, as it in now used to trigger the 2nd or 3rd percussion plunk.  So try turning off percussion.

PC361 - slider problem?

Hi.  Hope there's someone out there with a fix.  

I have a PC361 and the 1' slider (functions as drawbar in Organ mode) seems to have quit working.  All the other sliders/drawbars work fine.  Not sure if it's a hardware or software problem. 

Any info greatly appreciated!

K2vx for sale

I posted here about 6 months ago to ask for a fair value for my broken 
k2vx. It powers up but after a short while turns itself off, and then comes back on. I have had it to a few shops and they all tell me the same thing, " I need to swap boards with a working K2000". I gave up and bought a new PC3 but this K2vx if for sale now.
Price is 250 plus shipping.

Ditto on the not plug and play.  You need to install the proper eproms.  If you want to add ROM 2 and make it a full blown K2000VX, I have several.

You need to install setup EPROMs in "v5" version (VP is v6). Otherwise K2000 will not know that has expansion installed. K2000 is not "Plug&Play".

Tried to install Rom1 - Not working

Hi folks - I have a functioning Kurzweil K2000S, V 3.87J, 64 MB sample ram, KVPX sound set, non-upgrade PRAM.  I was able to obtain a daughterboard and the ROM1 (Orchestral).  **I think** I installed it correctly, but after a hard rest, there's no indication the board recognizes the new hardware.

As I said, I think I installed it correctly, but it's possible I missed something.  I'm posting to ask the experts here who've done their own upgrades if there's something I could have missed.

I'm certain I placed the rom booard properly in the daughterboard - I made sure the notches in the chips were in the position where they were closest to the PC board.  Also, I'm pretty sure the jumper on J7 is correctly placed (I didn't have to move it).

I unscrewed the two screws on the motherboard that you're supposed to, pushed the daughterboard in place, screwed the daughterboard into the motherboard, closed it up, and performed a hard reset.  The keyboard acted as if the daughterboard/sound wasn't there.

Any thoughts?

When I zipped the forum, it was several gigs of data.  The text of the forum portion alone isn't really all that big.  

The biggest thing is, I don't have the time right now.  And because of copyright issues / privacy and otherwise that we ensured when we started the forums (i.e., I have NEVER given out anyone's email address for spam or otherwise...ironically, as we were shutting down, no music company wanted to keep the site alive however we were offered to sell our mailing list for a sizable price...legally we could have done it...morally?  We didn't).  

Soooooo...I can't just give access to the database and otherwise...content holders and privacy.  So it would have to be me doing the work and it ain't happening this summer.  Too much work RIGHT NOW sorting out everything.

Any idea how much content was stored on the site? I have most all of these files for the K2 series but unfortunately I did not detail where the came from. They could have been from Sonikmatter, Kurzweil, Sweetwater, Yahoo Groups, cunka.com, etc....
 
Yahoo lets each group store 100mb. My brain fart was: we could create storage groups that would enable anyone who wished to download any of the freeware content available for these great synths. I have done this for many of the Yamaha FM synths, Roland L/A "D" series, Casio CZ/VZ, and even the Casio FZ sampler. The big advantage is Yahoo is free. As long as it's freeware on the up and up and developers have no complaints there isn't any issue. The next issue would be how many groups would need to be created, are we talking multiple gb's??? 
 
I would be willing to help setup these groups and maintain them if anyone thinks this would be a good idea. Let me know if this is a good idea or another one of my whimsical grey matter gas releases....

I wish we could have kept it going.  In the last year, we had 3 people donating to keep the site alive.  I personally got sick of paying a few hundred a month to keep a site together for a commercial company that begged us to keep it running, but wouldn't chip in.

I know I asked on the forums SEVERAL times for people to support it...and excuses excuses excuses.  Kinda funny how I don't recognize anyone that is upset about it being down on the supporters list!!!

I might be able to do an archive of some of the content some day...right now, I have too much on my plate.

The screws to remove the top are the 6 or 8 across the back top.  Some later versions also had a machine screw that went through the each side to to the front side of the top.  Once these are removed, the top slides forward about an inch and then can be lifted.  There are to wire pairs for the tweeters that can also be removed, or just put it  on end behind.  

There are also 3 screw on the back for the metal cover of the engine board and two for the jacks on the engine board.  All screws are #2 Phillips.  I also recommend you send me the power amp too, as there is one cap and the possiblity it needs a few devices re-solder, very common issues.  Make sure you document or mark each connector to ease re-assembly, as there are a couple of similar cables that can be put on the wrong jack.

Add another twenty for the amp.  Also you might want to pop off the speaker grills(Velcro) and look at the surround foam of the speakers, as this sometimes breaks down and needs replacement.  They can be re-foamed if

Without hearing Ist hand, I can only guess what the sound you are hearing is.  I recommend that when it is acting up, that you enter the diagnostics mode.  


To enter, hold down Piano(top left) and the right button under the display.  The display should read TEST SUPERVISOR then RUN ALL TESTS.  

Use the following buttons to navigate: 

4 NO/ CANCEL

5 YES/ execute

6 menu/program page down

7 menu/program page up

8 value decrement/-
9 value increment/+

I am recalling what these each do, so I might have each pair reversed!

Once you have entered in the diagnostic, hit 7(menu) once, should now say RUN SELF TESTS.
Hit 5 to execute, screen will change to NUMBER OF PASSES, Hit 5 again.
Do not have the volume way up when you get to the Sound ROM TESTS, 

It is normal to fail the KEYBOARD UART TEST without adding a jumper.  Same with MIDI UART and also BACKUP RAM TESTs, as they require different items.

Roger- I hope I am not bugging you but had to share a most puzzling occurrence.  I believe I mentioned that initially when we brought the instrument home it briefly worked perfectly with no degradation of sound. Of course then it reverted back to the garbled rumbling. Well, today when my wife came home from work, she noticed I had left it on all night. She tried playing it and encountered the aforementioned issue and turned it off. Then however, she turned it back on and suddenly it was working fine again! She played several of the ten sounds besides piano - all were fine! After playing it for a while, she turned it back off. What do you make of that? Incidentally, I checked the s/n# and the instrument was made in March of 1989.

There is a gentleman in my state of Vermont at North Country Organs in Newport Vermont who believes he has heard of you and says you&#x27;re the best. I may need to engage him to get you the board if I am unsuccessful on my own and this would naturally extend the time frame. Thank you for your generously reasonable price quote - if I may ask, where should I ship the board to so that you would get it? Mark 3s were built from 86 to 91.  The serial number has a date code containing the year month and a 4 digit serial number.  87052355  would be 1987 May  #2355.

The display work is good.  Without seeing whether you have the blacks 3M sockets of the two square socketed U19 and U32 Arnolds or if you have a proper relay, I could only guess.   Worst case is, it needs to be re-cap'd, relay replaced and the Arnold sockets replaced.  $90 with parts and shipping, less if you do not need some of the items.

Hi (again) - forgot to mention the display appears to be working - it displays instrument sounds called up by the buttons - also, my understanding from the previous owner is that the instrument is about 15 years old. Not sure if it has ever received servicing or repair - do not think it has so all parts/ components are likely original as used by kurzweil for that model produced during that era
