So ... I don't know who user dsp is, but I will note that according to
the RCS keyword that file is over 12 years old. The current one doesn't
look anything like that now. And as far as I can tell, nmh has never
put a reference to metamail in any of it's releases.

There is another quoted-printable decoder called qprint that might work
(not sure if this is what you are thinking of, but it is in OpenBSD
ports).

I have no problems using metamail on OpenBSD from ports---works great.

We do include the packaging tools with nmh, so if you want to build your
own RPM for nmh 1.5 it should be relatively straightforward. Or you
can always compile it yourself and install it wherever you want.

Well, it gets installed in ${prefix}/share/doc/nmh/NEWS, which people
don't normally look at, I agree. I only mention it because it's got all
of the details you need about replyfilter and other changes for 1.5.

Yeah, I used to do that too, but I finally got annoyed enough with that
solution to fix it in nmh. Also, replyfilter does more than just handle
quoted-printable; it can decode base64, can handler multipart/alternative,
can convert text/html to plain text, etc etc. It's not perfect, but it's
a lot better than the old way.

Like every other Linux distribution the release naming is completely
incomprehensible to me, so I can't say when that will happen (1.5
appears to be in some version of Ubuntu).

Unfortunately some Linux distributions are still shipping old versions
of nmh; Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Debian stable are both on nmh 1.3, for
example.

(As a side note, I suspect that people who rely on the system packaged
nmh never read the NEWS on updates and may be entirely oblivious to it.
I don't know what can be done about this.)

My personal solution to the quoted-printable quoting issue is to just
cut and paste between the exmh display and my editor when I want to
quote something. I never actually use exmh's 'reply with quoting'.

(Since I sometimes use (n)MH from the command line and do use 'reply
with quoting', I'll make sure</pre>

I want to auto convert quoted printable enclosures from the Reply

I don't know how [best, or at all?] to do that ?

- A sendmail issue ? Convert all hated (*) quoted-printable enclosures
received at my host before nmh &amp; exmh even display them ?.
- An exmh issue ? Give a directive to nmh to run eg: demime or emil
on quoted printable enclosure[s] on Reply ?
 - demime: http://scifi.squawk.com/demime.html
 - emil: http://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports/head/mail/emil/Makefile?view=markup
- Or just some nmh config option ?

I've been reading various sendmail &amp; NMH manuals &amp; config files etc,
but not found an answer. Your ideas please ? even if RTFM URL#....

I'm using exmh-2.7.2_3 nmh-1.2_3 FreeBSD-8.2 ESMTP Sendmail 8.14.4
(&amp; also have FreeBSD-9.1, exmh-2.7.2_5 nmh-1.3 ESMTP Sendmail 8.14.5)

PS (*) ( Quoted-printable has been a real pain,
On majordomo aliases on servers I extended pipes with
"|/usr/local/bin/demime -8</pre>

Just as a note ... you might want to make sure add as much stuff from
the template components file as possible. You need those things to
make things like the new -to, -from, and -subject switches work. Of
course exmh doesn't use those features, but hey, I live in hope! :-)

Perhaps a typo in the email address? Anyway, glad you got it working.

On behalf of everyone who's contributed to nmh, thank you!

Thanks for the response. I edited the various comps files and things
seem to be working right, now.

I am still baffled as to the problems I had with the server (MTA)
refusing the message. I don't have the error, but it is gone with the
edited comps. Before editing the comps files I just manually added a
"From: &lt;e-meil address&gt;" to the headers, but it clearly failed.

In any case, it is working. Thanks for the work on nmh. I want to play
aroudn with some of the new features when I get a little time (which
may mean "never", I'm afraid. How is it that I have less free time
since I retired from full-time work?

That's actually mentioned in the nmh release notes, so you can check there
for more information. You also might want to look at the supplied components
files, as there have been a number of significant changes on that front.

As for the problems sending messages, I think we'd need to see the
exact error messages. It could be you're using a different MTS then you
were previously.

Similar experience here, although I edited my various components
files to adapt. I have not experienced any problems with mail relays.

I have noted the exmh ports update (exmh-2.7.2_6 to exmh-2.8.0) has
pessimized I/O on my FreeBSD 8-STABLE system with either old or new
nmh. I have large folders and address database. I've shrunk the
folders, which helps, but saving the address database takes much
longer (100x) than before.

insisted that I manually add a From: to the header instead of using my

then, it bombed when attempting ot send the message saying that the
remote system would not accept it.

I have rolled it back 1.3 and it is working again, but I am not yet
sure if the problem is in exmh or nmh. (No, I have not even looked at
the nmh release notes, so I'll admit to laziness (or the desire to get
