Good afternoon all,

Just to let everyone know I've added an agenda item to the meeting
regarding re-approval. It will be coming up in the Saucy cycle so we need
to start thinking about if we want to see re-approval or not. At our
current level of activity I'd suggest we are unlikely to obtain
re-approval. But I believe by mentioning it now if there are people who
want to drive some local activity they can turn this around before the
re-approval date.

Unfortunately I will be unable to make tomorrow nights meeting due to prior
commitments but wanted to start getting people to think about this. I am
more than willing to help people know what is needed to and help guide them
through if there are people willing to do so.

Hi all,

Just a reminder that there is a Sydney release party on next Saturday, 27th
April at 2:00pm in Paddington. Full location and direction details are
available at
http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-au/2208-ubuntu-au-sydney-raring-release-gathering/

It's not a formal event as such, just a meet-up at a coffee and bookstore
to chat about the release and Ubuntu itself. You don't need to add your
name to attend but it would be nice to get an idea of the numbers to expect.

If you have any question or queries, just reply to the ubuntu-au mailing
list or come chat to us on IRC on #ubuntu-au on freenode.

See you there,

Joel

Hi all,

Coinciding with the release of Ubuntu 13.04, I'm created an event
at http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-au/2208/detail/. The release
party is scheduled for Saturday, 27th April 2013 at 2pm local Sydney
time at the Ampersand Cafe and Book Store in Paddington.

This is the Saturday after the release of Ubuntu 13.04, Raring Ringtail.
This could possibly be the last proper release of Ubuntu, due to the
chance of changing to a rolling release, along with the usual two-year
LTS release.

You can register your attendance, or join us on IRC at #ubuntu-au for
any questions.

that it has been created). Lets see if we can get 3 - 4 parties going this
release. Anyone up for one in Brisbane?

I just wanted to drop a quick (belated) note to let you know the Ubuntu
Membership Boards are looking for some new members.

If you've been involved in Ubuntu teams for a little while it might be
worth checking out. It requires only a little allocation of time but is a
very personally rewarding team to be a part of. For all the details check
out the news post on it -
http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/03/22/ubuntu-membership-board-call-for-nominations/

I'm currently a sitting member myself so if you have any questions feel
free to ask, I know there are a few former members floating around as well.

I came up with a complicated answer but the best answer is much simpler:
For example if the page size is A4 select paper 'A4 borderless 297x 210'

Problem solved. In hindsight it's obvious isn't it?

downloaded (from the Ubuntu software centre) to Ubuntu 12.10LTS, my

one for serial transfer. The IDE window is now listing USB1. After
compiling this message is received:
"avrdude: stk500-recv(): programmer is not responding"
Could someone tell what initial part of this message might mean.
By the way I can say that the program has not uploaded because the new
Arduino UNO came with a LED blinking program on it and this continues to
run.

There is currently a very basic shell of an operating system that
developers are working on building. For more details please see
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/tablet and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch

Please note, it is currently not a replacement for a tablet or a phone,
just a platform intended for enthusiasts who want to contribute testing and
building the platform. There is no set time frame that I'm aware of for a
finished product. As the wiki site mentions though, it's currently being
actively developed by Canonical for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and for the
tablets Nexus 7 & 10. So if you were hoping to run Ubuntu Touch on your
device those would be the safest options for now. I personally would be
keen to purchase the Nexus 10 (nice piece of hardware - if only Google Play
ever had it in stock) to have a play, if that ever happens I'll definitely
shoot a report to the list. I'd also encourage anyone else to feel free to
write up their experiences with the new platform.

Hi All,

From the beginning of the Ubuntu project the Ubuntu community has
discussed, designed, and planned each release of Ubuntu at the Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS), which happens
every six months at the beginning of a new release cycle.

The event, organized and funded by Canonical, is designed to get the
brightest minds in the Ubuntu community together and develop a rigorous set
of blueprints and work items for the forthcoming release of Ubuntu. These
blueprints are tracked openly in
https://blueprints.launchpad.

Thanks Bevin.

There's the 2TB drive listed as dev/sdc, then dev/sdc1 listed as
'Windows boot loader', and then dev/sdc2. The 2TB Windows drive was put
in the computer first and the 1.5 TB drive for Ubuntu was added later.
In Windows disk management the 2TB drive is listed as disk0, then the
500Gb one as disk1, and the 1.5TB one as disk2.

30Gb for home: have I maybe got things the wrong way round - should it
be a 10-30 Gb allocation for /root, and all the rest of the disk given
over to /home except for the swap area?

Dave

A couple of little thoughts.

Are you sure Windows is on sdc? Windows tends to get pretty upset if
it isn't on partition 1, disk 1.
30 Gig sounds like a lot for /home, but remember that by defaults all
