Upon further investigation, it appears to be an issue using quilt with 
Cygwin. See my report here:

I don't know if the bug is something actually Cygwin or something in 
quilt itself that is only manifesting when run from Cygwin.

 From what I can tell, there is nothing wrong with the patch.

I will be virtually offline during that period. As the other developers are currently busy with loads of other things, there will be active deevelopment in that period.

Bug#240: ecdsa-sha2-nistp256 not supported

What I observed is that the entries in known_hosts created by ssh that 
are not supported contain a string ecdsa-sha2-nistp256 instead of ssh-rsa.
Hashed entries with ssh-rsa are supported.

readelf -d /usr/bin/x2goclient
|does not show a dependency on libcrypto which contains the elliptic 
curve cryptography functions while
readlef -d /usr/bin/ssh
shows such a dependency.|

it is necessary to call
ssh_clean_pubkey_hash
after obtaining a hash with
ssh_get_pubkey_hash.

In ssshmasterconnection.cpp, int SshMasterConnection::serverAuth
this is missing instead free ( hash ) is called.

from time to time the SSH key used for identification by a X2GO server 
may change.

When trying to connect the server a pop up is shown:

The user is left puzzled with what he should do next.

There is no indication in which file there is a problem, e.g.
~/.ssh/known_hosts
or
%APPDATA%\ssh\known_hosts

There is no indication which entry in this file is corrupted.

Deleting file known_hosts is a bad idea because it may contain the keys 
for dozens of validated servers.

There are examples of more informative output, e.g. from command line 
program ssh:

After deleting ~/.ssh/known_hosts I have connected my x2goserver with 
the command line tool ssh.

This created file known_hosts with one entry in the hashed file format 
described in the sshd(8) man page:
"Alternately, hostnames may be stored in a hashed form which hides host 
names and addresses should the file's contents be disclosed."

I now try to connect the same server with x2goclient and get an error
