Hello Mr. Vlagsma,

Duplex functionality is supported for the Canon MP640 in gutenprint from
5.2.8 onwards. Current recommended version is 5.2.9.
If you are using software based on the older gutenprint 5.2.7 or earlier,
then unfortunately you will not have duplex support.

Hello,
This mailing list is for the open source gutenprint drivers, not Canon's
printer driver.
1. If you want to try the gutenprint driver for the MP250 series, you can
install gutenprint from your distribution (5.2.9 is the latest version, it
should be in Ubuntu 13.04) and select the MP250 from the CUPS interface
when installing a new printer.
2. If you want to use Canon's drivers, please search the Ubuntu forums, as
there is plenty of help there: http://ubuntuforums.org

I found cnijfilter-mp250series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz. Is that what I need?

Will this change in the near future?

Robbert,

Duplex feature is mostly available for HP printer models at the moment (but not to all of them as well). If the driver does not support this feature, the only option that one will see will be 'off'.

The reason why HP printer driver support this feature, but most of the others don't stems from the fact that Hewlett-Packard distributes its drivers under General Public license as an open source and free project.

For other printers that do not enjoy the same support from their corresponding manufacturers, our app downloads and uses drivers provided by GutenPrint (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net). As a result, not all drivers have the full functionality.

We will be working </pre>

<pre>Hello,
I appreciate Gutenprint and prefer it much over Canon's own driver. I
think it is better - at least for me. And it will be much more precious
as soon, as I can test printing on printable media.

But right now i have the effect, that, when printing from Debian's
Evince (to display and print PDF-files), nothing is being printed, when
selecting the printer with Gutenprint-driver. Selecting the
CANON-driver, the printout works correctly.
I have tested this effect with Debian Testing i386 and with Debian
Stable (Wheezy) on a 64-Bit machine. The effect is the same. Evince
prints with the Canon driver, but not with the Gutenprint driver.

The log-files show in every case, that the printing has been executed
completely, although there is no print on paper, when using the
Gutenprint driver.

With many other applications, like LibreOffice, the Gutenprint driver
works perfectly.

With great respect for your work,
sincerely

Hugo

I have a HP Deskjet 970Cxi printer, do you have a driver for Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 that will work with this printer.

If so how do I down load it.

Depending on your use, it may be easier to purge gutenprint in Synaptic
and set the install prefix to /usr. This is what I usually do when
installing the stable Gutenprint releases.

You'll have to search to find the exact names, and they are listed
(again approximately) in the README, but IIRC, you will need something
like libraster-dev; libcups-dev; libgimp$VERSION-dev; libtiff-dev (not
sure about this last; I think these pull in the remainder of the
essential dependencies). You will also need foomatic-dev if you want
to use that; I didn't install it and got a make warning and a make
install error, but an install that works perfectly for my needs.

Just watch the output of your configure and any warning it prints until
you have everything you need installed.

I think that the linked 5.2.9 is possible, but you won't find the special
spooler needed to support the SELPHY series there. For that, you would need
the CVS version of gutenprint (what would become 5.2.10 in the current
numbering system).

If you are interested in compiling gutenprint on your friend's Ubuntu
system, you can do so without overwriting the system gutenprint (CVS
installation will go into /usr/local which is separate from the system
installation). The only difficulty is making sure all the required
dependency packages are in place. This may take some time (looking at the
errors from the compilation attempts) but once done </pre>

The Phaser 7500 is a PostScript printer with support for colour spaces
and pantone named colours.

The colour space implementation includes support for specifying what the
default rgb and default cmyk spaces should emulate.

One shouldn't need gutenprint for such a printer; just send it postscript
and, where colour is important, specify a colour space for each component.

I am trying to print a 5x7 borderless image. Due to the proportions of the
original file, the image actually has a thin border on the left and right
sides when I print with canon's proprietary driver. This is acceptable to
me since the fame I want to use will cover it and I'd like to preserve the
proportions of the image without cropping it.

However, Canon's driver does not have the "Black Ink" option that is
available in CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9 (I also noticed that the latter has
many more options to be excited about), so I'd rather use CUPS+G.

When using the CUPS+G driver, the print preview show two thin borders on
the left and right sides. It's the same if I print to file.

The problem is that when I send it to the Canon MX882, the image prints
full bleed on the left and top but there is a large border on the right and
bottom. This is bumming me out since this is not what the print preview
shows , and I can't find a way </pre>

can demonstrate left/right margins yet - though I can if you like.

Is there a required documentation change when you implement this? Or
is this outside the scope of the docs/docs too far out of date to
bother with this.
