bulky, im somewhat tech savy, to the extent that I managed to replace the

couple of areas are somewhat shady.

Thanks for your reply , I've been activelly using hardware mainenance manual
in the past, so very well familiar with the document, but as far as Im
concerned there were no detailed information regarding antennas.

I will try to follow your tips, hope fully that should do the trick .

As you may know, the support for the touchpad part of this keyboard has
just been incorporated into Linux-3.4. The author of that driver also
has/had a tentative driver for the trackpoint part, making it appear as
a joystick. I've used his touchpad driver for many years, but have
never tried his trackpoint driver, but you may want to contact him to
see if it might provide the features you need.

Great job on replacing the card. I'm looking to do exactly that, however I'm

need to be able to plug in both card and both should be connected with
antennas one way or the other.

I looked through the other thread regarding using unauthorised cards, and
no, im not doing any modification to my BIOS, I d rather use TAPE for that
matter, but I'm still confused which slots is which, so if I want to keep my
intel wimax-wi-fi card, and have all the antennas connected correctly, which
slots should both cards go ? And how antennas should be connected ? I
understand that there are more antenna contacts which is normally in use,
from the looks it there are 6 actually (if im not wrong), which means I
should be able to connect both cards comfortably and use bo</pre>

I put what I got here: http://www.mork.no/~bjorn/thinkpad-lte/

Not much, but it might give some clues wrt antenna cable routing etc.
If you look closely at the pictures of the wlan card and the wwan card,
you will see the cables for the wlan card being routed through a hole in
the mainbard next to the wwan card. So moving any of the cards to the
other socket should not be difficult if you want to try the tape trick
before modifying the BIOS.

<pre>

I recommend downloading the "Thinkpad X301 Hardware Maintenance Manual"
from Lenovo. It explains a lot of details, including where to find the
different slots.

I believe that should be no problem. There are 3 mini-PCIe sockets in
the X301:

a) wlan (full size)
b) wusb or Intel "Turbo Memory" (half size)
c) wwan (full size)

Socket a) and b) are located behind the same cover as the memory slots.
Socket c) is located under the upper left part of the keyboard. There
are 6 antennas. In my X301, 3 of these were connected to the Intel wlan
card, 2 were connected to the Ericsson wwan card and 1 was not in use,
taped in place between the memory sockets. But do note that the two
locations are both in the upper left part of the PC. Any of the antenna
cables can easily be rerouted to either location by simply pulling it
through to the other side of the main board.

I assume your wimax card replaces the wlan card in my setup? And I
assume it uses maximum 3 antennas? If so, then you should have no
problem k</pre>

When running only with battery, I don't hesitate to turn of all of

Do you know if any of the tunables can have an impact on the

/var/log/syslog should have the request although it might not help.
Notice that the overheat can still be the motive albeit the laptop is not
overheating... but the sensors (or something else) are giving misreadings.

seem to make sense. For example, as soon as I turned on the computer and
the temperature was still low, I would start compressing files and the
Shut Down request would come up. By cancelling and carrying on, the
temperature would increase but no other request would come up. I do not
think that the temperature ever went over 60 degrees C anyway and the
cooling fan seems to be working as expected. Plus the motherboard has
been replaced on this laptop for a different reason and the problem is
there with both old and new.

Would any of the logs record the shutdown request, so that I can trace
it back?

Yes, I did. Xinput allows for the X-server to tweak things once the
signal reaches it. This allows for middle-button as emulate-wheel, and
horizontal scrolling. But the trackpoint "pre-amp" gain is actually
controlled in the hardware itself, and requires writing commands back to
the keyboard.

For a Thinkpad, this is:
echo -n 255 &gt; /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/sensitivity

For the older USB keyboards, there is no way to do it (as yet)

For the new USB keyboard, the tpkbdctl program works.

[It's possible to fake it slightly using mouse-speed and acceleration,
but this reduces fine-control. Turning up the analog gain is better]

overheat? what is reported by sensors, for instance? you can put a script
running in the background, with watch, for instance, to dump sensors to a
file every 1 min. when you reboot you can inspect and see what were the
temps when you were shutdown.

from the top of my mind that is what your problem makes me think off

may not be looking at the right place.

Any ideas?

I don't really know the context here, but regarding that patch, I posted
it at least twice on the linux-input mailing list, and I asked the HID
maintainer (Jiri Kosina) at least twice about it, but I always got
ignored. I don't know why.

So I basically gave up on trying to get it merged, but if you wanna try
yourself, be my guest.

However since it looked useful to me I published an updated version of
the patch and a userspace tool with reduced functionality on github:
